YES KIRK THAT THESE ARE NEW LARGER TANKS.....I WILL GET THEIR LOCATION RELATIVE TO THE CENTER HATCH AND ADVISE.
ORIGINAL: kirkj
Roger,
your new price list shows " Fuel tank - large, 3.7L per tank"
is this a new larger tank set or the same as previous G4 tanks?

I finally put the first couple of flights on my mibo! Wow what a fun bird! Ya gotta love this hobby.I am curious what kind of retract valves everybodys using with success on their "Hawgs". I am torn between sending my gear to get electrified or redoing my air system with a robart valve per leg. Any input?

Hi Chris
I use jettronics valves on the 2 A10 with full sucess.
I also use 3 restrictors ( one way ) to slow the extant of the gear.
Everything is working perfectly.
Do you have any pneumatic problem ?

I installed a single valve UP2 (?) and it doesn't seem to be able to reliably lift the gear on the ground let alone with air holding it open. It was not an issue with the first couple flights because I never intended to put the gear up for them but it went so well I want to make sure I have no doubts on my next time out.

what pressure are you running? i assumed to run 130-150 psi based on my other scale stuff. with quality bvm airline and safety wire on every nipple that is not a festo.

I usually pump it up to 100 to 105. I am running Dreamworks airline. I didn't know you could pump it up that high and not have problems elsewhere.
I will give it a shot and see if I am happier with it at higher pressures.

force (lb.)= pressure (psi) x area (sq. in.), so for a fixed piston area you can raise the pressure to raise the force. going from 100 to 150 psi would be a 50% gain in pull up force.

I used two valves (one BVM "Hi-Flow" on the mains, and one Robart on the nose) pumped up to about 110 psi. If I had another, I would probably strongly consider electric.

RE: 4th gen A-10 by Mibo jets
now im the one with the gear issue......
last night i was manually compressing the gear (they are not final installed yet) when i heard a snap, and the spring action was suddenly weak and zero damping.
i took them apart to find that the retaining ring on top of the inner leg, that holds the hydraulic seal and springs had given way and come out of its groove. oil was everywhere in the upper section, that is normally dry.
problem 2
the gear was full of aluminum chips from machining
proiblem 3
the 2 springs that nest together are both wound right hand, so the coils interfere with each other and the inner spring is badly dammaged. looks like a pig tail. i see from Stans post that his springs are right / left wound so they will not pinch.
keep in mind that the gear have not even seen service yet....i was just seeing how strong the spring was, and that it needs to be replaced based on this test and advice from other mibo guys.
Roger: i know you supply higher rate springs for the heavy hogs.... i.e. all of them. is this new spring a single spring? or 2 nested springs? can you please give me info on them so i can get them from you or find out where to order them please.
Stan: in your modification, where you move the spring to the upper section, exactly how much of the spring do you cut off? and do you remove ?? length from both springs inner and outer? if i take this route im still in a pickle, because both my springs are RH and pinch each other.
thanks in advance for the help.

removed the inner spring, went to the hardware store and found a new inner spring, with reverse wind from the outer spring, the same length as the outer spring and same stiffness. (the old inner spring was 1/2 length) also added a 3/8" nylon bushing inside the leg to pre-compress the spring set and make them firmer. changed the round keeper ring for a proper housing snap ring, and filled with 60wt RC car shock oil.
i have 3/4" x 4 x 6 steel plates in my shop that i use as fixture weights... before the change it would take 3 weights to compress the leg to a near full, after it took 5-1/2 to meet the same mark. should do the trick.
i was going to do Stans fix of moving hte spring to the upper section but after looking at it, there is nothing to drive the shock piston back to its original position after being compressed. that is done by the spring set below the piston. if the slip fit friction of the upper shock pin into the upper housing comes free, the shock does nothing after an initial compress. so i kept the original layout but stiffer springs. also very important to me was to get the spring set with one RH and one LH so the coils did not pinch each other and bind.
a bit long winded, sorry bout that.

Hello Geir
Congratulation for your work on the A10 !!!!
Concerning the fans, could you confirm you have no issue flying with them ?
Their are strong enougth to resist at gyroscopic efforts during the plane flight ?
