So the geometry of the parts causes the canopy to slide back first before opening?
If you want to send me a set of parts, I'll put them on the CNC and machine them out of ply and carbon fiber if you'd like. We can make as many sets as you would like.

Yes the canopy slides back to unlock and then opens.
If you want give me a call it will be about a week before i will have time to set down and make all the parts.

This is a neat idea from another modeler to make the main retract pods removable with one 4/40 bolt mounted to a block near the rear of the pod underneath the rear door.

I have been asked about the main gear on Gen 4 A-10 binding when bolted onto the wing.
The fix is to put a 1/32 shim under the two front mounting flanges this should releive the binding of the air cylinder against the wing.

Jimbo,
You are truly one of the GREATEST builders of all time in my book! Sure loved my "Minute Man" you did. The Canopy setup just blows me away!!! Just make sure to dirty that HOG up like the F-100! (yes.......................they really did look like that) Hope you get Rog's HOG ready to go by Route 66. I am getting excited about that one! See you guys soon!

Hi Jimbo, just a couple more pics and a short video of the canopy (if I can get it to load) opening mech. Can't get the video to load. Someone know how to change it to a supported file on RCU?

There are no video option for inside the forums. You have to upload it to RCU Videos and then put a link to it in your post. The RCU Video link can be found on the homepage, second blue button from the top.

Joe
the shimming you are refering to on G 3 was to help take out some of the free play of the strut when the main gear is retracted.
We did not have this problem on gear down.
Joe have you checked for a pinched air line or a slight bind or friction in the slow retract ?

The right main on my Gen 3 is slow to unlock for the down stroke. Has anyone else experienced this and knows a fix. I remember seeing something about shimming the mount on one of the older kits, but can't find that now.
Thanks,
Joe

No Gordon that shimming is to allow for the clearance needed for the larger air cylinder used for Gen 4 retracts.

Wow, hidden right in front of me...and I did a google search and RCU search.
Oh well, looks like it doesn't relate anyway, but thanks Gordo!

My right main acts the same. It has to do with the weight of the gear putting friction on the "T" bar (connected to the cylinder push rod). I went so far as to have Daryl at Sierra Giant Scale put in a new cylinder and replace the brass "T" bar with a steel one and it helped but still unlocks slowly and abrubtly. A little negative g during extension also helps but doesn't look good.
I've found that the gear is at least reliable so I just extend mine on downwind or during the turn to crosswind and it's not too noticeable.
Here's another gear suggestion; tighten up all the bolts on the main and nose gear scissors asemblys, even if it tightens up the flex action. This will take a lot of lateral play out of the gear and it will track and steer better.

Joe, some of the Gen 3 gear had problems with the cylinder seals. Remove the cylinder and see if the gear moves freely when fully loaded with wheel etc. If it does you are likely to need to replace the cylinder. When Bogo realized there was a problem they switched suppliers but may not have caught all of the offending cylinders. If a cylinder replacement does not do the trick, the problem is likely what Craig describes.

It is certainly possible one main cylinder would be OK and another would malfunction.
The 3 situations to date have included both mains....so maybe a lack of sufficient air due to binding, dirty cylinder, kink, etc. to the one cylinder.....we added a second tank that significantly improved performance. Keep us posted Joe on your deductions.

I believe I found the problem. The G-10 piece that goes on the strut so that the door linkages can attach was just a little to thick there and was contacting the cylinder in the up position. I ground a 1/32" off of it and that fixed the problem.
Thanks for the help guys.
