Hi all, Here are a couple of photos of one of my upcomming builds. I am just going to do all the engine and radio install. Someone else did the build to this pont and the paint. Untill you get one of these planes on you work table you don'r realize just how big it is.
Looking forward to getting to the build.

RE: 4th gen A-10 by Mibo jets
The problem making the canopy operation scale is the square panel mounted on the fuse right behind the canopy. On the real plane, as the canopy opens, it moves rearward and then opens and the door raises and moves aft with the canopy. All the pictures I've seen of models do not have the panel, it's just part of the rear canopy. Also, the canopy is raised/lowered using a "folding" bracket that is attached to a jack screw that powers the mechanisim. On the models I've seen, they just attach the piston rod from an air cylinder to the canopy to operate it.
Details4scale has a canopy system for the A-10 but I'm not sure if it uses the folding bracket or just an air cylinder for operation. Also I'm not sure about whether the small door is represented.
Do a Google search on the A-10, you'll find lots of walk arounds including numerous cockpit shots from the prototype through the
A-10C.
There's an excellent book on the A-10 that shows all the detail you could ever want but it's pricey, around $45. Unless you're going to really detail it a search will give you a lot of info.
BRG,
Jon

Funny you should mention how the real one works. Our mechanism first lifts the rear of the canopy to clear the small door, then slides the canopy aft while raising the door behind the canopy slightly so the canopy hinge bars will clear when the canopy raises. It's not exactly like the real thing, but very, very close. Here's a photo of the canopy system installed (courtesy of Bob Levine). You'll notice in the photo that the door behind the canopy is lifted just slightly with the canopy open.

Hi Dan,
Thanks for the info. For the vast majority, the little panel doesn't really matter as only HOG fanatics noticed it, let alone incorporate it in the model.
How are you doing on the accesories? I'm still building mine, so I have time. Are you working on a scale fowler flap mechanisim? I can't remember if it was you or Roger.
I'll send you an e-mail and order the canopy.
Also to luckyb001, Squadron/Signal has a nice wakaround book on the A-10 that's not too expensive. Covers mainly the early variants, but has a little on the later models.
BRG,
Jon

I have the scale lighting system, operational inboard diverter slats and should have the scale decelerons next week. All the tooling is comlete for them, except the trim tabs (molded separate). Then, I just have to lay up and assemble the first test set. I'm also making two styles of LGB's for the multi-pylon racks. The A-10 is such sweet bird. I think you could hang the kitchen sink under those wings and it wouldn't mind a bit...LOL...

Dan is that something new, what is the LGB, and what trim tabs

Jon answered one of the questions. The trim tabs are molded in the up position on the decelerons that come from Mibo. When the decelerons split, the trim tab stays with the top part of the deceleron, so it had to be a separate piece for the pair. I have take about 6 weeks to make the tooling for the molded decelerons and mechanics for them. I was surprized at just how complicated such a simple looking unit could be. I should have them completed next week so you'll get a chance to see what I mean when the first pair is assembled.

The A-10 doesn't use a drag chute-hence the declerons that are deployed on landing to slow it down.
They can also e used in flight as dive brakes, etc.

Thanks Dan, I glad you’re doing it because I don't think I'd want to take on making molds for all three pieces. Now with that being said, Get'er done. no rest for the talented.

I wish it was only just the 3 pieces. The trim tabs are separate now too. When I split the ailerons into decelerons, the tirm tab had to separate since it goes with the top deceleron half. The molds were not fun for these, so I know what you're saying now about not wanting to do them. Oh, well, I should be done early next week.

Bob Levine's Turbine Wheels that free rotate @ 8,500 rpm.
These were first installed by Wayne Lane the builder of Joe Castelao G4 Hawg.
Wayne has tested the turbine blow before and after there installation and found no air flow reduction.
