I wish there was a cockpit for this jet. Fei Bao is making such nice planes but they need to get those cockpits filled. I guess I am going to have to build another one of my "Fun Scale" cockpits like in my Panther. Well I am up bright and early and headed to the shop to build

Congartulations Dom for your new adquisition. I hope this time you get it strait forward like the panther with no issues. I was sad when saw the end of your 86. Now geter done.
I'm starting the JL one for a friend of mine. Only draw back for the moment is the rudder mechanism install. There is a fix for this in the JL L-39 thread but I will like to do it like the small one you just recived. So If you can start with the fin, may be I can adapt it to the big one. Looking forward for your build. Definitely will be a great thread.

Yes the P-70 is going in. The quality is super and it is very much like the Panther in all regards.
I started construction by removing the gear and hatches. Next I mounted the servo to the supplied aluminum mounts. I had to trim them a bit to make them fit in the opening. Be sure to use a bit of medium Ca on the threads as you screw the mounts to the servo. Careful if you use locktite...it will harm the plastic servo case and it will eventually fail. I used Ca on my screws. I attached a 6" servo extension and shrunk wrapped the connection. The servo is then mounted to the plywood structure already in the wing. Trim the cover for the servo arm and screw it in place. I like to use a straight 4-40 rod with sullivan clevis on each end. If you do this you will have to relocated the position of the control horn. After cutting the slot for the control horn and epoxying it in place I connected the servo. I use Red Locktite on the clevis and nut closest to the servo. Be sure to use the keepers on your clevis.

I have Dom's Old T-45, the wing span is 67" and the Fuse is 72", the L39 specs state that the Wing is 57 3/4" and the Fuse is 74 3/4".

Next I installed the flap servo. Again the metal servo mounts needed a bit of trimming to fit inside the hatch area. I took a picture of my relocated control horn. You can see Fei Bao's score mark then my slot. The original location is fine if you use the supplied hardware but I prefer a straight 4-40 rod and this does not require having the control horn offset. Notice the line drawn on the control horn. After cutting the slot I push the horn into place and draw a line on it. I then use this horn on the opposite wing. This ensures that I will have the horn in the exact position as the first wing when I install it in the second wing. All of this of course is to be sure you have an equal amount of control deflection from one side to the other. If you are using a Y harness instead of separate channels for each servo then this is very important. I completely disassembled my gear and air cylinder. I like to look inside the cylinder, clean it and lube things up with my own grease. I then put it all back together using locktite on the screws. I also remove the wheel and grease up the brake O-Ring. I then mounted the gear with 6-32 blind nuts and bolts instead of the provided wood screws. Last task was to install the wing tip tank. I used locktite on the screws here as well. I am now off to repeat all this on the opposite wing panel.

I painted the bulkheads and fuse floor in the fuel tank bay. I also painted the engine compartment and intakes. This protects the wood and just looks nicer. The white makes for a cleaner looking install. I brush on a couple coats of flat white Rustoleum.

MW, White does look nice. Did you use the R oil based or latex based flat white? Thinking about lowering main tank 1/4" then a Dubro 32oz will fit piggy back on top and lock all in place. Single tank does not look big enough for a normal 10min. flight. Going to measure stock tank capacity tonite. Nice kit! WHMC

It's the oil based paint. 74 Oz is marginal. I have 70 Oz in mt Tamjets A-4 and only fly 4.5 min. This gives me enough fuel for about 2 more passes at the wire then I'm on Fumes. The A-4 has a P-70 as will the L-39. I will look at adding more fuel as well. There is plenty of room in there. Wagner what about bigger tanks for future kits?

Re- Tanks... There is also probably room on the floor space infront of main spar between formers for addition fuel tank. I have been configuring my FB L-39 so it can carry smoke as well. If it was a case of simply extra fuel volume there definetely is space for additional conformal fuel tanks upping capacity. I will try and take some pics of my tank set up install and post them soon...

Wagner, There is alot of room vertical above the standard tank. Maybe raise the sides of the standard tank about 1"or 1.5". Should still fit, how much extra fuel? Saddle tanks are fine but one big one is far simpler and more reliable. If they streach the tank there should be a baffel in the middle with a fuel tubing hole, this will keep the clunk aft. WHMC
