skymaster jets
#1
I am looking at a jet thats i pretty close to scale, one for someone just wavered. I looked at the skymaster f-16, f-15, l-39, and Bae Hawk, but the The F-16 won't work where I fly and I am lookinf for as convensional as possible, single rudder, ect, but one thing that turns me away is swept wing of the Hawk, I had a swept wing at the very start of jets with no luck, squrly but hopefuly this is not the case with the Hawk. So I am choosing between L39 and the Bae hawk. I just want straight answers, no problems, fighting, which one do you think would be the best for a grass field not to big, a little bumpy, flys the best, lands the slowest. Juts want as many opinons before I get into jets to far getting wrong ones and such. If you can post links of build thread on these airplanes, I'd appreciate that. Thanks

If you want a military kind of look but with "baby" characteristics on take offs and landings...the L-39 Albatros is a very good plane. The MB 339 is there too. Just don't over engine them, thinking that will help you get them off the ground quicker. Go with factory suggested turbine rather than adding throttle AND weight that the plane is not designed for. Short fields...stay away from Fighter type planes...more for bail out or overshot approaches. I have a Jet Legends L-39, Skymaster F-16 1/6 scale, F-18 1/8 scale Skymaster Super Hornet, BVM KingCat and Comp ARF Lightning...ALL of them are my favorite planes!!!
Good luck on your search.

The Skymaster L-39 is pretty big, (and pricey)
If you are looking for straight wing scale jets for 14-10 lb turbines, your choices would be
PST Panther
FeiBao Panther
FeiBao L-39
Jet Legend CT-114
Jet Legend T-34 ( similar to the hawk, but reportedly it flies very nicely)
Jet legend L-39 (this is a big one too.)
I'm not sure if anyone has a smaller MB339
The trainling link landing gear on the L-39, T-45 and Hawk would be ideal for grass runways...

ok thanks guys, I was looking at the L-39 from Fie Bao, reading build threads and such, seems nice. I am hearing quite about about thje L-39 over the Hawk so I guess the L-39 would be a better choice id assume. Anyways, keep posting your opinons. Thanks

Have you looked at the Jet Legend L39. It is considerably larger than the FB version and from the threats I have read, it flies very well. The full cost of the complete plane with gear/brakes, tanks, and pipe is approximately $2600. So if you are looking for a plane with some WOW, JL L39 is the way to go IMO.
As far as the Hawk is concerned, I had one that crashed and burned (literally) during its maiden flight. So it would not be a plane that would get a good recommendation from me.

depends on the engine you have, agree with the rest the straight wing of the L-39 would be better, the Skymaster L-39 is a great kit, well made and strong, but is larger than the fei boa version but that doe have plus points as it handles slightly better in windy conditions, again, depends on your engine output.
There are on-line build postings for both versions on RCU.

Edit. Thought this was his first jet, but it's not.
If your flying off grass & its a little bumpy, you want something with big wheels & trailing link struts. I would favour the L39. It's fairly easy to fly & lands at low speed.

k, thanks guys I have been keeping up with those build threads, Id like the smaller one because its cheaper, I am looking to keep it under $6000. I don't know how many FB L-39's are out flying, I would like to know how they fly and land, what speeds, If I fly it will be max of 10mph wind, otherwise I probly won't fly, I don't like fighting the wind, the runway I fly on gets bumpy when the wind picks up, lots of structures around. Thanks again for the info.
