Default Dreams do come true!!!

About 15 years ago (maybe more) I saw the prototype for the Jet Model Products T-33 fly at the Greater SW Fan Fly. It was designed and built by Tom Sewell and was powered by an OS .91 in a Dynamax fan. I decided right then, that I would have to own one.

Then Tom Cook decided to make it an all composite airframe, which took it out of my price range. But in the back of my mind, it was always one of the planes I would have to have someday. Well, today I bought one of the very early airframes from a friend of mine. It was built for DF but converted to turbine before it ever flew. It was originally flown with a JetCat Hammer, the predecessor of the P-80.

The Hammer is now disassembled in a box (don’t ask). So I’ll install my JetCat Titan in it until I can either have the Hammer repaired or purchase a new turbine for it. I can’t wait to check it all out and get it airworthy again.

Sorry, Buck. Your F-18 got moved to the floor.

Looks gorgeous! Pics of that cockpit remind me of efforts to squeeze myself into a display cockpit for a photo op...I couldn't get my shoulders in. (however, I did fit very comforatbly in an F-104 cockpit - go figure!)

Jetcat Hammer is a name I have not heard for a long, long time.........

Hey Gary....

I have flown one with a Titan......be careful! It makes nice scale speed passes at 1/4 throttle! But on the plus side, you can do some absolutely huge loops.

Jeff

Jeff,

Thanks. I am going to dial the Titan down in this airframe. This one looked just right at 17 - 18 pounds thrust so I'm thinking 20 - 22 pounds at the most. Long range plan is to put a smaller turbine in it.

Gary,
I am currently flying mine with a Titan.....more power then you need, will out climb a flash with the same engine. Full throttle unleashes the beast within on this baby, but don't be scared, it can handle it. I've got about 50 flights on mine now, and love every minute of it.
I was like you, I have always wanted one but never had the funds. Thanks to my buddy Ali I was able to get one.....it was well worth the wait!
Congrats, and enjoy.
Dave

Well, I finally got a flight on the T-bird.

WOW!

The Titan gets it off a grass runway in about 350 - 400' with no wind, (without really trying to horse it off). It looks real scale-like at a little less that 1/2 throttle. It's a keeper for sure!

Thanks to Tom Cook for designing such a great airframe and for supplying me with an instruction manual so I could complete the setup on this 15 year old jet.

I also got 3 good flights on my YA F-18 that day (it's also more than 15 years old). Kinda feels like I'm running an old folks home for jets. Here's a pic of a pair of oldies but goodies.
