Steven, if you don't mind me asking, why did it crash? I think its best to learn the chain of events leading to a crash as it may prevent one of us having the same thing happen in the future. Just curious and btw it was a nice looking jet. I like the yellow.

hi Jason,
it crashs at Maiden,
the manufacturers CG Position was terrible .... after take off it stand vertical in the air but the Super Eagle push it up.
Then with full elevator trimm and half way on elevator stick it fly`s in a correct horizontal position. Nose much to heavy.
Next i thought was that there are 3,5 Liters Kero in front of the CG, so i fly flat circels in the air and after 5-6 minutes nose became lighter. then i set up the flaps and nose come more up. With this setup i come in for touch down. 1/3 Throttle and nose a bit high it sems like a perfekt landing. When i reach the Borderline of our field in six Meters Height someone behind me shout "Throttle out".
I Idiot did dis and in this Moment there was no elevator control and the F5 crashed.
Feibao recomended a CG at 90-110mm, "THATS WRONG", the correct CG is at 137mm ....
Total loss .... [:@][:@][:@]
Here you got a pic from the "Ive Saint Laurent" cockpit area, custom buildt by "Airtech-Factory"
so enough OT, back to the EAGLE ....
Regards Steven and sorry for my english

Wow, its beautiful inside. Sorry to hear it was due to CG. Sounds like you almost made it back to the field. Thank you for the picture. I'm mounting my flaps and ailerons today. Your English is better than my German. I know little bit German and come to Koln occationally. Love to meet you guys sometime.

Let me know when you come to cologne, our field is 10 min. away from cologne international airport.
So i will pick you up and we will burn some Kero

Thank you so much for your offer. I can't wait to meet you guys.
I really like your speed brake as well. Very nice installation. Cockpit very nice also.
I picked up my servos for the ailerons and flaps today. I will have the wings finalized tonight. Looking to taxi test the jet on Friday. I still have lots to do but its comming along quickly.
Tsuch,
Jason

OK, I got some concerns with the servo box for the aileron, flaps. I read somewhere on RCU where a guy lost his plane (SkyMaster I think...) when his aileron servos came loose. When you think about it having the servo sit in a balsa/ply construction box with a little bit of surface area contacting the wing skin, I think that may be recipe for disaster. I think I will apply a thin layer of fiberglass cloth and epoxy to the servo box and attaché it to the bottom sheeting. Just a thought, you guys may be doing that already....

Mike

USSCAT...I'm not an engineer but the loads are all in shear for the most part. I would think that as long as the box is sitting in a healthy bead of Hysol it should be ok if your linkage is tight and you have no slop in the servo gears. I did run a bead of hysol in the corners of my servo boxes. Mine came pre-assembled and just floating inside the wing.
I do like your idea of tying the servo box to both wing skins.....how the heck are you going to get in there with glass? Its very tight.
I got my ailerons and flaps hinged tonight, Hysol is drying as I type. I also got all the servo mounts screwed to the servos for ailerons and flaps. I used blue locktite to keep the screws from backing out. I will install them in the wings on Monday morning and rig the control rods. I think the threads on the linkage rod ends and rods could be much better. They don't even want to screw on to the rods. I'll probably have to get a tap...metric of course.

RE: Fly Eagle F-15 (1/9) Building Thread
hey gsr got two more fights today started with the cg at 165mm flew fine second flight i took a 1 once lead stirp out and that puts the cg at between 165 to 170mm could probably got back more since there is still some up elevator trim, the p-80 is just no fun so the 120 is in and will give that a try wed evening or thursday morning in fresno ,the elevator was a little more sensitive so you may want to set up another softer rate to try if you go with the 170 cg just a thought

757Driver,
I was going to remove the the servo from the box and use the cloth on the inside walls and attach to the floor and then use another strip and attach the top ply to the balsa walls from the outside.
Eagle driver,
I like your setup, I wished I had posted much earlier...[:@][:@]

I have had to box my F15 up, becasue we are moving house. []

Eagle Driver,
I have been flying the Feibao F-5 now for over a month now and colaborated with Feibao on the instruction manual. I have been flying it with the c.g. at 110mm with excellent results. The aircraft has been rock solid. I am aware that someone has posted that they used a c.g. of 137 mm on their F-5 with good results which is great, but the 90-110mm does not make the F-5 un-flyable. I have over 20 flights on my F-5 now
Here is a picture of my F-5 just before touch down at Route 66 jets. Almost no elevator needed to keep it nose high. This is not a nose heavy airplane.

Hi Paul,
this is the manual Link i got from Feibao.
[link]http://rcjetmodels.com/manuals/F5TSMAN.pdf[/link]
I think it`s written by you.
Please belive me that the model was "Nose heavy" with CG at 100 mm. But if you read my post you will know that there was a ....... that shout "Throttle OUT" during touch down. THIS WAS A MISTAKE ON THE STICKS I DID. But we set up another Feibao F5-E with CG at 135 mm an it operates very well with CG at this point.
Here is one of the Posts that i found on RCU to this Problem, have a closer look to post Nr.28
[link]http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_6306951/anchors_7844664/mpage_2/key_/anchor/tm.htm#7844664[/link]
What makes me worried is that i never get a answer from Feibao after i send a email and told them about that. I was more than impressed with the F5 Quality but they have to work on their after sales services.
Even i send a mail to FEJ i got a answer from James in a few Hours .... Not one time, 20 and more Times.
But all this is OT on the FEJ F15 Building Threat, we can open a new one and discuss this Problem.

RE: Fly Eagle F-15 (1/9) Building Thread
Hello Steven,
Sorry if it seems as though I'm trying to highjack this thread but that is not my intent. I was only responding to comments you made about the Feibao F-5, which to me seemed to be off topic concidering this thread's subject. In post #143, you make statements that imply that the c.g. in the Feibao F-5 manual was the cause of your crash. There are many pilots flying the same aircraft with different c.g. locations based on their personal flying styles. I would think it unfair to call any of these c.g. locations "WORNG" just because it does not fit your personel style. The c.g. in the F-5 manual does not make it unable to fly/ land. If your have further concerns you can contact me by pm or e-mail.
Regards
Paul

RE: Fly Eagle F-15 (1/9) Building Thread
I had a good day working on the jet. I got the UP-3 valve installed, the brake valve and their respective servos. I also installed both switches for the redundant RX batteries and made a spot to mount the ECU switch. Installed the RX, voltage regulator and the factory air valve as I have decided to have a dedicated brake system that is seperate from the gear and doors system. I also got the nose gear door actuator relocated and a stop installed to prevent the actuator from breaking the hinges. I still need to do this on the MLG doors. While doing this I discovered that the socket that threads onto the gear door actuator had the threads all but stripped out. I put some CA on it and it should be airworthy. The factory linkage for the air valves not adiquite in my opinion. So I replaced it with 2-56 rod ends and links.
Yesterday I installed the flap and aileron servos. I also had to recut the threads on the aileron and flap control linkages. The rod ends were ok but the threads on the rod itself were cut too shallow. They are 3mm and a tap and die set are very inexpensive and make the fit much better. The pitch is .5 and chasing the threads was easy. I had an issue with the aileron servos as one of the 90 degree aluminum angle servo mounts was up too high for the servo cover panel to be screwed down. The fix is going to be to drill and tap new holes to lower the bracket so that it clears the panel. I will do this tommorow.
OK Another question???? Where do the lazer cut wood peices go on the model???? Pics for refrence....

Jason,
If the redrilling/retaping did not work, let me know, I have a few extra L brackets. Send me a PM with your mailiing address and I will send it to you. Make sure you measure the distance between the hole center and the top of the bracket so that I can make sure I pick one that would work for you.
Regards,
Mike

RE: Fly Eagle F-15 (1/9) Building Thread
Mike, thanks very much for your offer. Fly Eagle was good enough to put two extras in the kit. As it turned out I didn't need them and the new holes worked just fine. I never thought I would want a metric tap and die set but you can never have enough tools! There is nothing better than having the right tool for the job. I got the wings completely done today (Wednesday) and drilled the holes in the main rails for the turbine mounts. I decided to use 8-32 bolts as it fit the turbine mounting straps the best. I drilled all the way through and will use washers on both sides with locknuts and blue locktite. I'm thinking I may harden the holes with thin CA as well but that's overkill. I found that the small brass spacers on the rod ends are different lengths. I put the long one on the recessed side of the bearing in the rod end. I replaced their hardware with button head screws since they are lower profile. All I had was 16mm in length and I think that 14 would be just perfect as I had some threads hanging out just a bit. I wish Fly Eagle would have put some ply in the corners of the servo panels in the wing so that the #0 screws had something to bite into and so that the screw placement didn't have to be so close to the the edge of the servo cover panel. I started to work on the MLG door actuators and noticed that one of the balls was loose on the hinge for the left MLG door. I started to tighten it and when I touched it with the pliers the ball came completely off the hinge and I stood there in disbelief as I had only applied a slight pressure. So now I have something to fix tommorow. I will get the servos and stabilators mounted tommorow.
Heres some pics from today....
