PST composite Reaction Jet
Just got a PST comp. reaction jet. It came without any instructions. Wondering if someone can send some pics of their install just for basic guidance. A detailed instruction will be a delight.

RE: PST composite Reaction Jet
Ragz just put it together
Most of the wood parts like the servo trays etc are already done you just have to glue them in
There is one wooden structure where the nose gear servo goes in the centre of the fuse
The Stab is stuck on with aeropoxy on the saddle, fin is stuck on to of that with a tongue
Elev servo tray is already mounted
Elev pushrod is a carbon arrowshaft tube with 3mm end for the clevis (like the Dave Bown Pushrods)
Its very elementary you cant go wrong
I would have put it together for you alongwith mine but I need to get the bandits off my work bench

RE: PST composite Reaction Jet
Manual is coming but for experienced builders, the Reaction is very straight forward. There was a construction photos on a CD with your kit. Please ask for this. I will post what I can on here as well. The throws and CG for a start.

If you are using a big engine (20lbs+) install the speed brake!
If you have any Q's, PM me or B777...
What engine are you using????

RE: PST composite Reaction Jet
Just got mine today and am very pleased. I actually had the balsa/ply kit in hand and changed my mind before starting the build and was able to put the money toward the composite. After seeing it sitting on my workbench this afternoon I do not regret my decision. I was just talking to Bruce Tharpe to let him know it got here and he is starting to post instructions on his web site as he does a build. He will eventually have a complete build manual for this bird. Never built a jet before but everything looks straight forward to me. I will need some kind of picture when it comes down to the turbine install itself and of course there is a whole new ball of wax to learn about as far as turbine operation but that is a bit down the road for me. Everyhthing else should be simular to putting any kind of big bird together. Make sure its strong, straight, isn't binding and won't fall off or rattle around in flight!

I have many pics from the prototype that we flew in Thailand, but my PC is down now. once fixed, I'll post some pics to help out till the official manual is out... Again, very easy to finish. The turbine simply bolts on, the angle, we found out, is very close perfect at most throttle settings. If you like knife edge, get as much rudder as you can...it will do it ok for its design!

RE: PST composite Reaction Jet
Ok guys, lots of action on this thread. Good. I opened up the nicely packed box and was very happy with the quality of the kit. Looks very strong indeed. The finish is pretty much right up there with the big boys. I intend to use a spare p120 that I have. I will use 8411's all around as I have a few extra with me. Yes, the plane seems very simple to put together. I only wanted the instructions to make sure the workflow is correct. For example, at what stage should I bolt the nose to the main fuse? With no workflow, it will take a little extra time thats all. I plan to keep this plane simple and light, although I will like to have a smoke system on it. I dont think it needs a powerbox or anything similar? Any suggestions? Lets see, 4 servos on the wings, all 8411's. One rudder and one elevator, making it 6 8411's. Nose steering, and valves will have analog servos. One thing I notices is the way the wings mount the fuse. Are we meant to glue the two halves? I have not fully inspected the kit yet but it seems like PST is going to sell a lot of these.

RE: PST composite Reaction Jet
Hi there,
Wing halves are joined with two tubes and bolt on the fuselage. The structure is very strong once mounted so no gluing is needed here. You will need to glue (epoxy) in the stabilizer. There is a front alignment dowel so all you need to do is make sure that the stab is straight relative to the wing tips. Make sure that you sand out the area to be glued so that the epoxy can adhere better (lower part of stabilizer and the fuselage seating). I use masking tape for protection so you don't scratch the other area when sanding the bottom of the stabilizer.
The nose section is removable and I join this section when I am ready for final assembly and radio installation. I place smoke pump on the former right above the speed brake.
Here are some installation pictures: Elevator push rod assembly, flaps/ailerons servo assembly, nose section/smoke pump installation.
Regards,
Kraivuth S.

I will officially take resposibility for lagging on the instruction manual. Please accept my apologies. Part of the deal with PST was for me to write the instructions, and I will. My sample arrived a few weeks ago, but other tasks caused a delay. In an effort to help customers who have started to receive their ARFs, I have started a "quick and dirty" webpage on my site. I hope to add to this every few days or so, and eventually organize it into an official manual. Here's the link:
http://www.btemodels.com/rarf-instructions.html
Ragz, your point about the workflow is extremely important. My next step is to outline the whole step-by-step process in a logical manner and post to the website. Keep checking it...
Maybe we can turn this situation into a positive, and make this thread a focus point for early builders. Let us see your progress, tell us your equipment, share with the community. You know, a friendly group effort
RCpete (and any other North American customers), I invite you to check out my site, then send me an email or give me a call (541-582-1708 from Canada). Hope to hear from you!

RE: PST composite Reaction Jet
Hi Bruce,
One modification I would suggest / consider especially for the guys using 35 lb turbines is a dual servo for elevator and some other means of holding down the tailplane on the saddle.
Somehow Aeropoxy alone does not give confidence enough with a 35lb turbine.
In addition to the areopoxy Im planning to stick a 1/4"maple/hardwood square plate below the saddle and similarly I will have to get a hardwood piece in the trailing edge of the stab and run a Blind nut and bolt thru it.

RE: PST composite Reaction Jet
Wait time is around 3-4 weeks [&o]
Unfortunately, we might have about 2 weeks production gap in early June due to shortage of some raw materials. We will do our best to minimize this gap.

RE: PST composite Reaction Jet
Received my 54 ARF today and all I can say is WOW !!!!! The white/red version is really striking - will be real easy to see in the air.
Outside of not having any assy instructions (had advanced warning) the only real disappointment is the decals sent with the R54. - all of the lettering/numbers decals are "white" (going to be REAL HARD to see on the white plane! ) and none of the neat graphics on the prototypes, except for the stars and bars, were included.
I will be using a Simjet Sonic S120 ( 25lb boost) turbine and I'm wondering if the stock air inlets will be big enough or if I will need a cheater hole like on the blue/yellow prototype? Also will the speed brake really be needed with the S120?
This will be an easy/quick build for me compared to the 3year scratch build turbine jet that I'm just now finishing up !!!!
It looks like PST has a real winner with this one - Bruce should be real proud !!!!!!

RE: PST composite Reaction Jet
Hi Jim,
Glad that you like the Reaction ARF. The prototype letterings and graphic are simple stickers. We will supply the Star/Bar emblems and will not be supplying the letterings and numbers. We will leave this to your imagination.
As for instruction, Bruce is putting up a manual. In the mean time, many good tips are here and on PST and BTE websites. Please email us if you need any help.
Inlets are more than enough. Cheater hole was originally made to monitor the engine and not for extra air passage. Speed brake is nice to have and looks cool....
Cheers,
Kraivuth S.
