Bob,
Your being to kind, (agenda) heres my 25' behind of another incident, Chris Klue of Ritewing promotion/manufacturing fame was in the air flying 150MPH with his $1200 wings and Jeff Somebody??? personally got on the PA system and repremanded his ongoing flying pattern even to the point he said thats twice, do it again and your grounded.
"YET" Chris K as an accomplished pilot of many years flying high speed stuff complied.....Now Chris his second SEFF drove in for a week from CA spends $1000 to entertain with steaks and green bottles is even planning for SEFF2009 a bigger company sponsored tent to hang at and a week long presence AGAIN.........A true proffesional spirit among the HATERS.....
I fly a fleet of 4 BVM jets, and never even knew of his absence until yesterdays post, I was however looking for Castle Creations for some controller programming updates. I think that their no show points to uncle bobs "other numerous industry" comment, My problem is BVM stuff has no equal in being replaced easily, on the flipside, Castle is easily replaced with better options at 1/2 the costs. .02

Bob,
Actually, now that I think of it, I'm glad that I missed SEFF this year. Thanks for posting an accurate first person account of this unfortunate incident.
Best Regards, Bill

C/F the simple fact is BV did not fly inside of the cone that marked the foamy area nor did he put any pilot at risk.
Yes he barked and was less than professional in his dealing with the event staff.
It would be in his best interest to handle these sort of situations differently, I think we all agree there.
See you at KY jets?

Ok guys I was standing 25 feet behind BV and saw it unfold.
It was BV's first flight as they got there late (4:00 pm). The sport area was busy as it was the best time of the day to fly.
BV was asked to move his flight path further out as his upwind line would take to the back edge of the center flying area.
The air boss asked him to angle his flight path further out. I think BV was trying to adjust his flight path but it is hard to judge the angle. The air boss made a second request that could have been handled differently and BV reacted to being yelled at while flying his jet as ANY of us would have. I think the whole situation could have been managed better if the air boss would have quietly asked BV's spotter, Dustin to advise BV that he was flying along the back side of adjacent flight space.

You may well be right that it could have been handled better by the airboss – however there is also an opposite side to that coin, which is that the airboss can NOT afford to take lots of chances with other people's aircraft and personal safety by being "too gentle".
I spent some time doing pseudo-airboss duties at a reasonably busy event this year (not as busy as SEFF though), and I gave one pilot & his spotter two "pleasant" reminders to stay in the pattern. After I was ignored on both occasions I was just about to step forward and get tough when that pilot's aircraft came within inches of taking out another model in a mid-air due to it flying counter-pattern, and some pretty strong language started flowing from one pilot station to another. In retrospect I realized that I erred in being nice twice rather than just once, because I allowed an unsafe situation to continue longer than I should have.
So, it's quite possible that in this case the airboss was actually being smart in getting much tougher with his second warning than with his first, and that he realized that being gentle for too long is dangerous.
You mention that BV got there late. Did he know what the flightline restrictions were before he flew ? It's been my experience that guys who show up after the morning pilots' briefing is already over often don't take the time to find out what they missed regarding flightlines, safety rules etc. IMO anyone who turns up late should go out of their way to find out about what was missed at the briefing, and anyone who registers a pilot after the briefing should also go out of their way to make sure the pilot is aware of such points.

Quite to the contrary. There were over twenty flight stations in operation from sun up to sun down.
I agree this is the Jet forum, I merely responded to a post about a situation I had first had experience with.

SEFF sounds like a playground...not a flightline.
Don't fly over the cone that marks the foamie area???

Good point, but BV never violated the pattern he merely flew very far up wind along the backside of the center flying area and maybe from the event directors perspective he was over flying that area, but I don't think so. I was focused on the model, watching the performance of the vertical power and top speed not his path over the ground.

hey pete, when was the last time you saw somebody be asked to leave at an event?
according to the seff officers post- mike parsons , that is what happened.
hey bob , was he in fact asked to leave or not ?
since you are the man with the up close and personel defense.
alot of guys on the elect forum seem to thing the seff actions were just.

I know my jet is just as fast but BV has really closed the gap so I had to see if I would need to go to full throttle on my next flight.
I was present at the flight line. BV had it out with Jeff at the center of field and I was not present for that conversation.

soooooo!- you flew your 150-200 mph jet all week and did not get asked to leave so aparently the flightline rules could be easily followed.

People talk big on the internet......Why don"t you ask BV instead of using your long distance attack?...I guess some people can make themself feel like they are someone important in ths hobby using tis method of attack.

I'm amazed that the BV bashing never ends. We all know the old man and how he is. Give the guy a break, he had a bad day, got jumped on and jumped back (according to eyewitnesses). BV has done a lot for this hobby, and from what I've seen at many events he is not a blatant safety violator. My .02

Not to add fuel to the fire, but here is my first hand of what happened and a variation of what RB saw.
BV took his plane up and made a low pass down the length of the runway. Through the back half of the Parkflyer section and 3D section with 50CC models prop hanging and flipping around. At this point I was in line with the Parkflyer section and saw the jet come through it and the 3D section before yanking and banking into pattern. I headed in that direction. (this was relayed to me from the Flightboss and witnesses)The Flightboss spoke up to tell him to observe the 45. After the third time disregarding the flight pattern, the Flightbosses at the other ends notified the Jet coming through and Jeff (Event Organizer) told the FLB to tell him to land. Somewhere in the middle of that BV told the Flight Boss that "He would fly like he %%#$ wants too". He was told to land immediately. Could the FB have raised his voice? Absolutley. Was it warranted? In my mind after the blatant (mutiple) disregard for staff and the other pilots, yes.
BV berated the FLB, staff and event right then and there. The FLB went to Jeff to discuss it so he would be aware and Jeff approached BV to discuss it. BV began berating Jeff, the FLB and the event very colorfully. He threatened to pull his donation (earmarked BVM electra) from the Raffle. Problem was he didnt donate anything and Jeff told him he couldnt take back something he hadn't given. Jeff told him he was grounded until he apologized to both him and the FLB for his abusive language and berating. BV said that he will not apologize.
A bit later, BV took his plane down and flew again. With blatant disregard of the staff's decision. Jeff approached him and told him to land. More words were exchanged and Jeff asked BV to pack it up and told him the flack wasn't worth it. BV wanted to overstep Jeff and talk with Mac Hodges (owner). BV and Jeff went to talk with Mac and BV continued to berate everyone again directly too Mac. After the tirade Mac supported Jeff and Staff and suggested to BV that it was better if he packed it up and left.
I have my own opinions of the man from what I witnessed, but they are not important nor relevant to the account above.
