I am in the process of completing a Sprint. I am trying to keep it light with a Wren 54 for power and wire landing gear. I was wondering if anyone has a picture of how they installed a wire nose gear. I am having problems clearing the fuselage with the straight wire.

I understand Alan's prototype had wire gear. If you read this Alan, do you have any pictures or suggestions?

Hi buckerboy,
My club mate found these people that make sheets that you put into your printer (either get the inkjet or laser ones to suit your printer), then make your own decals.
he has used this and made some nice decals of our club badge.

Hope this helps.

it is all about choosing the right gear.

wire works but after every landing you need to bend it back.
and at some point you get tired of doing that.
believe me i have flown the intro for many flights with a Wren 54 ,it is pure fun.
more fun was a good LG , the original gave way after 3 flights

Hal,
I've sent you a PM. Contact me direct for the real unbiased information you want. I understand why you're considering wires.

I have said many times that almost any make of retracts will be usable with the Sprint. I left tons of clearance around the main gear wheel wells to accomodate a variety of makes.

Good news for the US customers & Sprint fans, the Dreamworks Pro-link retracts that Todd makes for the Sprint are ready now. Patricia will be selling them in a package deal with the kits, as we also do for the XL and Elan.

see;- http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_77...tm.htm#7786583

By simply removing the small curved shape part of the former (it was added by the factory without my say so), each side behind the short nose gear rails which is now designed out, you can fit the Dreamworks gear without any pads lifting the nosegear. The steering arms drop right in behind the rails, as I intended.
Photos within a day or two.

Need help with the Carbon tube Spar....

Ok my intro when together perfect the first time. The spar center section and wing all aligned perfect for a perfect snug fit with no binding.

no so with my sprint. The spar for the sprint and intro are different sizes. intro spar is larger.

my spar gets stuck/hard to get through when it get halfway through the center section. when i finally get it through (pushing and twisting) then the wings dont align without alot of force to get them all on. Alot more force than i need for my Intro.

So how so i fix? sand the carbon tube? or the inner tubes? How do you sand the inner tube?

I don't seem to have a problem with my center spar. My wings go through it with
no problem, My problem seem to be the 2 aluminum rods in the wings. They are
a verry tight fit on and even harder to get off.I had it all together today to take some pictures
and it took almost 5 min of twisting and pulling ect. ect. to get the one wing out.I know its not the
main carbon tube because I took the aluminum rods out and the wing goes on and off with ease.
In you case from what I can remember you should sand the inner tube not the carbon tube, I could be wrong
so don't quote me on this.

I had a problem similar to this with my GP Patty Wagstaff Extra 300. Many modelers who bought this ARF found that the Tube Socket, in the wings, were too small for the aluminum Wing Tube. The solution was to take a wood dowel, slightly smaller than the Tube Socket, glue Sand Paper to it, attach a 1/4" dowel to the center of the larger dowel and chuck it in a drill. Run the sand paper back and forth, inside the Tube Socket, until the Wing Tube fits snug, but does not stick.

A fellow modeler and I recently purchased a Sprint. Everything fit perfectly, except for the Wing Tube.

I am happy.

Alan,

thanks for the email.

I tried the oil method (WD40), works better. Not as butter smooth like my intro, but it seems to get better the more i cycle it. I will keep farting around with for a little bit. i think there is mold release residue in the center tube.

Any flights yet? This bird was going together so fast I hoped we'd have a flight report by now. I plan on starting my build in about a week which will give me time to complete the current project [a H9 P-47 150].

For a variety of reasons including crappy weather and me being in China again, the Sprint flying video has been delayed. Should be done next week if we see the sun here in the UK!! Meanwhile, here are a couple of pictures of the Sprint. 16.5 Lbs dry ready to go with the Booster 80. My other Sprint will have the Wren Supersport in it.

Hi,

I am also building a Sprint to replace a crashed Intro (dont ask LOL)

I am running in some troubles with the airintakes, if I fit them in the tabs, the underside does not touch the wing .....

If you have/had the same issue how did you fix this, my thought is to remove the edge on the underside of the intake (the one that goes against the fusalage side, and just glue it down on the wing.

Any options?

Cheers,

Mick.

The intakes are not designed to touch the wing! Have a look at this picture.

They fix to the sides of the fuselage after the centre wing is fixed in place.

There should be about 1mm. clearance underneath. (Between 1/32" and 1/16" or so.)

Hi Alan,

Quick with responses even in China!

Well that explains it all!

I will rephrase now: My Air Intakes fit perfectly, they hover about 1mm above the wing LOL!

Just one design question though: Why dont they touch the wing, is there a specific reason for that?

Cheers,

Mick.

I don't want to offend anyone and don't get me wrong I have got a bomerang but I purchased mine for £350 which I thought was over priced for a film covered ARTF. So why would anyone spend £500 plus probably the same again on retracts for something that will wrinkle up at the first sign of sun. Don't get me wrong they fly well but I have spent more time ironing mine than anything else. Why has Alan just refurbed the bomerang and not gone composite for what is being charged it should be. Check out the flyeaglejet site if you would like a sensible priced twin boom composite trainer and they are quite happy to post direct to your door.

I didnt i got a baby boomerang for 350 which I said is over priced for a film covered artf. I was saying that £500 is well over the top for basically a revamped baby boomerang.

CG and balance question:

1. Did anyone that has completed their Sprint have to add wieght to the nose?

I placed my super bee as far forward as possible by default.
Now that i am starting to place the other stuff, i want to know if i need to move as much forward as i can.
I noticed the Aux header tank posit for the the Sprint is in the back of the radio compartment vice the front like the baby boomer.

2. Anyone confirm the manual CG location. 250mm from the wing training edge?
