Default Jet Shot Down by Farmer

Did any of you hear about this? Take a look at the comments by readers at the bottom of the page. The sad part is that it seems like a lot of people think it is the RC pilots fault for having a $12,000 "Toy Airplane" and the farmer was within his rights.

the old timer must've been purdy pissed to drive / walk out and deliberatley shoot down the jet.

now if he were in mississippi they would'a done it with a paint ball gun.

Dadgum, that guy is good if he can hit a KingCat with a slingshot. Is this not an established field? From the story it appears it happened at the field, perhaps they have had trouble with this guy before. Would love to hear the rest of the story.

Hey man, nice shot... [8D]

Was the pilot flying off a street or something? How could he get so close as to be within a slingshot distance? I suspect there's more to the story...

How undignifying is being arrested for shooting down a r/c airplane... for both parties! if I was the KC owner I also wouldn´t charge it as it is very humiliating letting people know that I was zapped out of the sky by a slingshot!

However, if the farmer have used a scale SAM or a bazooka, that would be OK.

If you read the replies at the end (past the first 3 retards) of the article there are statements that the *****whole comes down to the end of the runway and does this ROUTIENLY and has been arrested for this in the past. It looks like he finally got a golden BB though. Too bad the KingCat didnt depart and hit him in the head. I would think that some of the homeland security laws could be used at him, terriost threat etc. Scott

What kills me is the people that feel you can't overfly a field they might own. If you crash in the field sure, you could be trespassing or causing property damage, but last I checked, owning a hunk of land doesn't mean you own the airspace over it, so what possible right could ANYONE have in thinking they should shoot down an airplane. If the pilot was doing low passes over the guys house it's maybe another story, but give me a break..... geez.....

Wow, that is crazy. I hope he is forced to pay for the damage. He could have caused a serious accident.

A lawyer was bush-hogging his farm and apparently he was looking at the bush-hog on this day.
He did not see the tree limb that knocked him off the tractor, as you can imagine the
bush-hog had no mercy.

The moral of this (true story) is ,farming is a very dangerous business
The old man should find another occupation that is better for his health.

If this is the field I am thinking it is there have been numerous issues with this farmer. I am not a member of this club but have flown there a couple of times. All of the members will warn you. "if you go down over there consider it a total loss". One of the ends of the run way is about 100ft or so from the edge of his property. A left to right pattern has you taking off into his fields, but a right to left pattern would have you slow flying over his field to get back to the run way. Attached is a picture of the club. You can see the farmer field at the end of the runway.

I understand this is Texas, where shooting 2 people in the back is considered self-defense. In our area we are worried about neighbors complaining about noise. People do not shoot at us, but if they complain about noise, we are doomed. The problem is that we normally rent part of a farm, and at that time is always alone, surrounded by fields, no neighbors. Then, they develop one of the fields, and houses start to pop up. You can inagine the rest of the story... In our current field we have houses kind of near, but no complaints so far. All it takes is a crazied complaining neighbor to shut us down.

I am sure this crazied farmer will pay for what he has done... He just was unlucky enough to hit a very expensive piece of hardware (well, "not hard enough ware"

Jetfreak-Yes that is the same field. I was told the jet was taking off when the farmer shot at it with a slingshot full of buckshot. He FOD'd the turbine, causing the crash. Yes, it was the same person they have had problems with in the past. I heard he has a past criminal background, so he will probably not be bothering anyone for a while after this stunt.

you know what would have happend if the airplane would have ended up hitting him or anyone else. It would have been bad news for all of us.

Hmmmmm...I have a thought. Mig 29 runs over a foamie at FL Jets and goes in because both engines were FODed out (No FOD screens). KingCat goes in because some whack a doodle FODs out the engine with a sling shot. I wonder if he was using a FOD screen?

I am constantly amazed as to how many guys don't use them when I look at other guys jets.

Food for thought...

I'm sorry but if you burglarize a house you risk getting yourself killed. I don't feel sorry for those criminals ONE BIT. They deserve what they got. One thing I do know, criminals will think twice before breaking in people's houses.

In Louisiana citizens actually have the right to shoot to kill if you try to carjack them. Another good law. If someone broke into my house and I'm home, they will be met with a 12ga shotgun blast in the face.

Andy
