Default Fueling Question

I use a BVM UAT and use a Jersey Kerosene Can. I would like to use a fuel filling valve as I don’t like using the plug that comes with the UAT. Is anyone aware of :
- A very high quality fuelling valve (with very little risk of air coming in)
- A fuelling valve that is compatible with the fueling fittings that come with the Jersey Can.
Thank you.

I use a Festo Valve with a short length of tygon tubing in the filling end. Just plug the Jersey Fueler probe into the tube, open the valve, start the pump and fuel it up. When you're done, shut the pump off, close the fueling valve, put a paper towel around the end with the fuel probe stuck in it and remove the probe. The paper towel will absorb the few drops of fuel that are on the end of the valve away from the UAT. Works Great!

Have you found tygon into a Festo gives an airtight seal?? I've used that setup a couple of times (in smoke pump setups) and found leaks around the festo.

Isn't the tygon tubing 1/4" ? If so, you'd need a 1/4" festo rather than the 6mm Festos that most of us are using.

For fueling, here's what I do on all of my jets: 6mm fill-line from UAT goes to a Festo ball-valve ; the other end of the ball valve has a short length of 6mm tube that has a fuel-dot in it. To fuel up I remove the "stub" length of 6mm, plug in the 6mm line from my fueling can, open the ball valve, fill everything, close the ball valve, remove the filler line and put the stub back in.

This method has been leak proof for me for a long time (7 years, in the case of my Bobcat), and has a level of extra safety in it in case I screw up - if I forget to put the stub back in (happened once when I got distracted) the ball-valve still closes the fill line off and no leak results ; conversely if I put the stub in without closing the ball-valve, it's still sealed too. So, I have to screw up TWICE (ball valve left open AND forget to replace the stub) before there's a problem.

If the above is unclear, lemme know - I can snap a pic later and post that if need be.

No leaks that I can detect.

Ooops! Took another look. I'm using the Jetcat shutoff valve. Sorry!

It works fine though.

Tygon will fit in a 6mm festo ball valve...works well until the tygon on the fueler side starts getting stiff. It works well - expecially for hot fuelling....

I like Gordon's idea...I hadn't thought of that....

Thanks, I like Gordon’s idea. On Festo 6mm / vs Tygon what is the verdict : acceptable or not ? What alternative tubing can be used for 6mm ?

A related question I have is what are the pros and cons of using 6mm Festo tubing vs tygon? Is there a difference in stffness initially and over time?

One other question I have, is there a tubing type or brand that is better to use on the inside of the fuel tank?

Thanks,

Greg

I use this from Dreamworks:

Once you use these, you will change over all your airplanes!

Not sure about what's easily available in the UK, but I use Freelin-Wade

6mm: 1J-158-10 ; 100ft roll, clear

For inside the tank. I like to use this ultra-flexible stuff – it's like a softer version of what you get for inside BV's tanks: ¼” flexible: 1J-133-10 clear 100ft
