Andy.

The design and making of the molds normally take the longest.

First is the design and drawling, using solid works or another type of program.

Then you upload it to Surf cam and make all the changes to perfect the mold lines and size.

You will then run your computer generated tool path 10-15 times to be sure your tools don’t crash anywhere with the mold.

Upload your program to your HASS Mold maker (CNC) secure your aluminum block into place then indicate the height and corners of your aluminum block, select your tools/cutter and push the go button. (Getting to this point can take 4-5 months of R&D) Speaking from experience.

After the mold is finished you install the hardware to bolt it together. Then comes the conditioning of the mold using mold release or Frecoat mold agent. Then heat the mold up to 250-300 Deg. For about 15 min. After it cools you design the composite lay-up and make your parts.

Once you have the process down and you’re getting good quality parts, you will then trim sand and bond you parts together using a jig or other equipment. It will take about 5-6 days to make a 1 quality kit. (Getting to this point can take up to 1-2 Months) Speaking from experience.

Are you ready for one Andy?

The Mig looks very impressive. By utilising a sloping turbine mounting position fairly far forward you seem to have maintained a reasonably scale cross section between the engine pods, well done.

Thank you John.

I know Anton and his team are working very hard to make all the Skymaster kits as scale as possible.

By putting the turbine forward/ Angled and high in the turtle deck it allows both the top and bottom of the Mig to stay scale. This also helps with CG.

Jeff,

Are the LG comes with a system lock other than just the main cyl? Plane looks fabulous but a leak in the nose gear will cause it to collapse. This is casue the cyl will be retracted when gear is down, to much preassure to the strut will pull the cyl stroke out extending the nose gear to up position droping the nose in to the runway.

From what I noticed it takes a bit of pressure to unlock and lock the gear.

l locked the gear in the down position with air pressure and then disconnected the line. I then tryed to retract them by hand and they did not budge at all. If the system ever leaks down you should not have a gear collapse due to the way that the locking mechanism works.

Tires: the MiG 29 nose tires appear to be air-filled like my SM-Plus Gripen. And they are fine on the nose gear. But, e.g., the Gripen pneumatic Main tires are way too soft and flexible, IMO, esp for a narrow stance model, and only add to inherent ground stability/handling difficulties. I finally filled mine w/ PU (made them solid), added a gyro, stiffened the struts, etc...handles fine, now

Are the 29 Mains solid...I don't see fill valves? I hope so(!), and wonder if there is a solid replacement tire for the Gripen yet? Beautiful looking model....Tx!

I had a slight problem with my F4 where the gear had to be mounted where the tires were closer to the fuse because one couldn't get to the screws that mount the gear because the skin on the wing would cover it. I had notch out holes on one of the screws at the far corner on each wing to get to the screws and this was as far forward as the gear could be mounted without the wheel hitting the end.

Well, that was all jiffy until I aired up the wheels. It made the wheel expand and then it wouldn't clear. Ultimately, I had to move the gear even further back under the wing so the wheels would clear. Unfortuneautly, all of the gear doors had to be modified to fit also. Please look at this SM on your F4 Phantoms - not trying to rob this thread but I know you guys are looking at it.

And maybe I missed it, but what is the empty and gross(TO) weight? Control surfaces: ailerons required or tailerons sufficient? Flaps?

Someone indicated a video of this model flying exists. Where could I find it? Tx!

It sure is an impressive model of my current favourite machine, and I have to say that your photofile is just as impressive. Many thanks for taking the trouble to shoot and post the pics. Especially those of the retracts which are are particularly instructive.

The shipping cost seems very high. I have purchased a 1/7 scale jet from the same region and shipping was 1/3 to 1/4 of the stated price for the Mig-29. Is the shipping price wrong?? If not why is it so high.

Ray.

Sorry I did not get the weight of the bird. I had to get it packed back up and sent to Florida for FIJR.

You can get the kit in the aileron or taileron version. Taileron is the SEBA version for the Vectoring thrust high Alfa 3-D maneuvers.
When you order the kit specify SEBA version with the VT Pipe or non SEBA version with the standard pipe.

Thanks
