AMT EDT Crapped Out!

I have a Mercury that has been in storage for well over two years. I fired it up today to check out prior to putting it into a Boomerang Sprint. It ran great, but the EDT is all black on its display, as if the contrast were turned up way too high. Also, it is not powering itself off after 15 or 20 minutes like it is supposed to. It stayed black for at least 1.5 hours. Anyone have any ideas what is wrong? Any similar failures and solutions? I can run the turbine, but I have no feedback for RPM or temps (I'd sure like to).
Thanks guys.

Internal rechargeable battery of the EDT gone bad after 2 years self discharge ?
Volts too low for contast control and/or micro not coming out of reset and initialising LCD display.
If its out of warranty I'd be tempted to open it up and replace whatever type of battery is in there.
In storage, was it exposed to extreme cold of heat, that kills displays.

Well, the guy that I bought it from replaced the internal re-chargeable battery with a replaceable 9 volt battery, the throw-away kind. Two years ago it worked fine with the 9 volt and, from what I've heard, many AMT owners do that. So that can't be the issue. First thing I tried today was replacing the 9 volt. No difference. It has resided in my garage for the last two years. We are in southern Loisianna, so there is no way it got too cold. The temp could maybe, just maybe hit 100 deg. F. I would not think that was too hot for an LCD. And come to thing of it, I did run another AMT with the same EDT about a year ago and it was functional then.
Is there a contrast adjustment???

Woket....Sorry to hear of the EDT crapping out....The EDT that you have was only a couple of months old when I sold it to you....It was the third EDT that I went through since owning the engine...[:@]...These malfunction easily but sending it back to Benny will give you a repaired unit with all of the latest upgrades...There isn't any rhyme or reason as to why they quit...The first one that I had wouldn't shut itself off so I modified it with a switch so that I could manually turn it off...Then one day, it too, gave me the black screen of death...Same with the second one...[:'(]...If you do a search you will find that it is quite common with the older EDT's...Send it back to Benny for repairs and updates...

Thanks Kevin!
Thanks Kevin!
As you already see a lot of AMT users have the same experience with the V1.2 EDT. This EDT has a 9Volt rechargable battery which will last for approx. 2 to 3 years. Normally replacement of this battery helps. Also the control of the contrast of the LCD is depending on the supply of this battery.
In the newer once we use 3 AAA NiMh cells. In the begin there was some problem with switching off to a sleepmode but thay is solved for mor then a year already.
So please if you have problems with the EDT send them back to AMT Netherlands (Bennie) and we will look at it.
Ray,
AMT Netherlands
