As long as you cut back the film and on the leading edge too where you can glue from the inside, it's going to be fine. Also the inlets add more contact area...full bore negative snaps on mine with a full tank have been no problem.

ORIGINAL: boomerman

just been doing some building to my nano. mated the wing with fuselage. is it correct that its just epoxied to the wing?, just dosnt seem a strong bond!!, would have though it would be like the sprint which has spigots on the front of the wing that goes into the fuse and screws on rear.
See back in this thread. I didn't like it either. I put a dowel in the front of the wing. pics are there.

I also used Hysol aeroepoxy instead of standard epoxy. Its alot stronger

I always use Aeropoxy/Hysol 9462 on joints like this!

Hi, I am just about to install the Wren 44 into my nano, am I ok to move the turbine as far forward on the mounting rails as possible to help with the c of g or is it too far into the fuselage?

thanks

You would need a short pipe, but anyway with the 44 you should not need weight. I have 100grams in the nose with a P60.

Here are some pictures showing turbine mounting psoitions, so the forward position is better for c of g but at what cost? or is the centre of the rails the way to go?

The 44 is actually longer than I remember, but yes I would go in the centre of the rails.

I couldn't tell from the pics ,but have you coated the inside with expoxy or zpoxy thinned down? THats a must do in my opinion for longevity. It is a really sweet little bird. enjoy.

David,
If I didn't say it before, we all appreciate what you do for the hobby.. I dont know of many people that put the effort into it that you do..

All,
I didn't think I would like it much after owning an Elan, but its growing on me. What I really like is that I can keep the plane almost in tact and just put the wings on and go. Im thinking about ordering a set of replacement alum dowels to screw in for transport though.. the pins catch on everything..

When Jettech makes the split fuel cell for smoke, I might have to go back and redo it. Im addicted to smoke... Not much room to put a tank with the big fuel cell. ideas?

I always coat my models in 50:50 thinned ZAP 40 finishing resin, I expect my models to last a long time!

With the tail pipe that far in a couple of coats of heat shield in the back fuselage should protect any slow starts.

Thank you

Goose,

The inside is coated with Tufcote fuel proofer and the rear section with BVM heatshield paint.

Even with midi servos on the rudders it looks like with the Wren 1500mah ecu battery and a 3000mah lipo for the receiver in the nose I am still an inch behind the c of g.

Strange, I have a 2200mAh Rx and a 2600 2s ECU pack only. You got an installation pix of the board?

For those using mid size servos for rudders, what are you using? I have JR3301 or JR3401 that I could use but JR prices seem to have gone mental and wondered if there was anything more appropriate.

How much torque is required for the elevator (using Wren 54)?

The last one was equipped with these. They worked perfectly. I am normally quite touchy about Hitec servos and theri centerings, but either these were ok, or I couldn't tell. Oh, and it was our demo model that was powered by a super sport, so I am pretty sure I would have known if they were not up to the job!

The servo mounts are for std servos, I used JR 589/Spektrum 821 servos for easy mounting. You will add weight with the addaption plates! I used a JR 8231 on elevator

Savox 1350 are a midi choice if you really want to go this way.

Just picked up a Nano from Motors and Rotors. Been watching these guys fly them at our local patch and they look a great flying turbine. They slow down well, take off and land on wet longish grass and are good at aerobatics {well, as good as your brain and thumbs can work together, }.
Out of the box and going through the bits it all looks good, and very resonably priced.
Just gotta save up for the bit in the middle. {p60}LOL.
As some of the guys on here use the 821 servo i was going to use its equivalent of the jr589 with a digi switch and 2 cell lipo.
I checked the spec of the 589 and its only for 4.8v.. Not sure if i am correct but i thought a digi switch gave a continuous 6v.
Can i still use the 589? Your thoughts gents please.

Always a pleasure to take your money...turned into a bit of a Boomerang day!
As always (sick of saying this) no such thing as a 4.8v servo...no such thing as a 4.8v battery! A 4 cell pack is flat at 4.8v...so you crash. A four cell pack as JR originally intended their servos to operate from is high 5volts charged (5.9v) and a good pack operates around 5.6-5.7v...which is what JR Japan check their servos at-I've asked the man!
So rest easy, especially as the Digi Switch is 5.4v output.
Normal PB stuff like the Sensor Switch, Gemini Switch and all PB units are 5.9v and thousands of flights using these on JR servos tells me it's not a problem. A123 users are putting 6.5-6.6v through JR servos, which although not recomended seems OK if you don't fill your hinges and linkages with CA

I thought one of the points of the Nano was for people to put 'normal' servos and gear in not all this high torque digital metal gear stuff. Wasn't this what Alan intended when he designed it. Each to their own of course.

at £20 a servo rather than £80, then that is cheaper no? Its still over 2k worth in the air.. you wanna put a £10 servo in?

That was one of the points of the plane. Yes I would and have in several of my jets as it is quite adequate to fly this plane. People way over servo Jets simply because they are jets. There is no evidence that I have seen to suggest that the cheaper servos (£10 ones) are any more likely to fail than the £80 ones. The belief that just because it costs more means it is better simply is not always true in my view.

As I said people can put in what they want but they are missing one of the points of this plane.

Also I have over 110 RC planes ranging from GWS foam planes to a Skymaster Hawk. I could not begin to tell you how many flights I have had and I can honestly say I have only ever had a couple of servo failures and they were generally stripped gears when I think I nocked then getting the plane out of the car.

In my view it is quite unessary to pay £80 for a servo in this airframe. I am sure the servo police and many will disagree

Regards

Dennis

Point I was making is that they are installing £20 servos in it, not all £80 servos. A 589 servo is about £23.
