RE: FlyEagle AT-3. Does anybody have one?
Hey Frank,
I maidened mine yesterday at Floyd Bennett....Weather was great, wind comming at 45 TO THE RUNWAY. All was good. Controls and cg set as per manufacture specs..I had to add 16 oz to the tail to balance the jet at 115mm...Lined the plane on the runway, eased the throttle forwards, she started to pick up some speed, then to full throttle, eased thr elevator in, a little more, then a little more, AND THEN............She was teetering on just being flyable! The plane seemed to be tail heavy at the 115mm cg, One lap around the field. the elevator was very sensitive. I had about -55% expo on it. Landed the plane..I took 8 oz out of the tail, fired it up and down the runway we go..up elevator, jumps off the ground.....Still tail heavy. It was not as bad as the first flight, But still tail heavy. landed the plane, took out the other 8 oz from the tail, then decided NOT to try again...Packed everything up and went home....
SO.....my question is;
Does anybody have any suggestions or comments on what the problem might be!!!!
Thanks,
Tommy

Tommy, I built one of these and I thought when I was building it that it might have a little negative incidence on the wings when sitting on the gear on the ground. I would check it with an incidence meter and maybe shim the nose gear if needed to get the nose up a little.
An F-16 I built had the same problem when it rotated and after I shimmed the nose to get a positive angle of attack it worked well.

Hi Gary,
I will check into that, But Im also looking for a possible ans for it being tail heavy at the recommended cg, even after i removed the wieght from the tail!

hi there, any input on the effectiveness of the rudder? since it is only 50% in size compare to the full scale. I wonder if any of you had tried to knife edge, if so how does it hold?

Thanks,

Hi I have had to reduce the elevator movement a lot,with 30% expo it is fine,i would surgest that this is your problem,Rudder is ok for flight line pass but knife edge no regards Keith
