How totally cool! Some of us are lucky, I get to fly the A-10/B-52 when I go see my friends. I think everyone should do it. Folks, if you are near an air base, you can make contact and probably get some sim time unless classified. If the Scout troop can do it, you can! I love the strafing runs over Iraq, dropping 50Klbs. over other parts of the world that need to be turned to glass! The only short come is the lack of feel when the guns and missles are on the way!

teebox, it is cool that you have been able to get in those sims, however- not just any person can usually get sim time because the flying squadron, which ever one it is pays for that time. The simulators are outside agency contracts, like FlightSafety in our case. I had to ask a friend who works at FlightSafety for a favor. Happy New Year!! Nick

I got more time in the F-16 puking than you do in total hrs flying! I've got about 120hrs or so in the F-16

Sweetpea, what gives with the Navy airplane?

PS: If it was me, I would put the F-16 on the avatar

I've got a few rare buds who started one place, got out, went in at another place - Air Force to Navy, etc. Even more do exchanges in other countries in their fighter or transport squadrons too. Maybe that's Sweat's deal too (Air Force to Navy)? Or maybe he's just talkin SIM time!!! (I know it's all the real deal, just kid'n!)

Eddie,
Yes, I know guys who have done the Navy active/Air Force Guard thing and vice versa. Looks like Sweetpea has covered a lot of bases with the airplanes he has flown. It was more unusual in my day to switch between TAC and SAC or even between airplane types within a command. Must be different these days.

I'm talking about Sweetpea's EA6-B avatar. Nothing against the EA6-B but a 4 seat, fly level, electronic jammer vs a single seat, single engine, go fast, set your hair on fire, fighter.....I know which one I would pick.

For all those inquiring........
My AF career has been, well different. I'm an EWO (Electronic Warfare Officer). I never went to Pensacola to do navy flight training, I went to Randolph from the get go. I chose the B-52 so I could be in the fight as a Nav/EWO (No AC-130's left for the year in my drop). I spent 5 yrs there and flew in OEF/OIF then got a sweet deal assignment to fly in the backseat of an F-16D for 4yrs (no combat time) Actually it was a desk job but being a young Capt they had to fly us to keep our gate months going for career progression so we flew very little....just enough really. This was a handpicked assignment that I had to interview for. From there I again got a sweet deal by interview to fly with the Navy as an AF EWO and become an ECMO, sorta. We are a small AF squadron that flys in the EA6-B. So at this job I will have 2 bosses, 1 AF and 1 Navy but the AF will write my performance reports.
As for the Avatar......I put my current plane in there. I have not actually flown yet in the EA6-B but my first flight should be sometime this month (Jan, fingers crossed). The Navy is a little slower than the AF on training. In this plane I'll fly both front seat (NFO) and backseat (ECMO).
Very rare for AF guys to do this much switching of airplanes while on Active duty. I only know of 3 other B-52 guys that did this same career path. My next goal is to push some new kind of AF EW platform. Few choices out there.......EAB-52, EAF-15, EAF-18G, or to keep AF guys flying with the Navy in the EAF-18G which we currently are not going to do.
