Happy New Year to all Fellow Jet flyers,
I will be visiting Dubai from next Monday, January 12th to Thursday, January 15th and was wondering, since I haven't been to the Emirates since 2000, if there are any interesting model shops, stocked with what we, jet buffs are interested in.
Also, any Jet flying activity during the weekdays?? and where in Dubai can someone find the model airfields??? TIA.
Regards,
Chris

Hello Chris (and Nicolas), and a Happy New Year! There is a rather large hobby shop just down by the airport, they had 2 very nice jets
when I was there a year and a half ago, and they had some jet accessories. There was also an airline pilot who was a model jet jock, I will
see if I still have his name - he was going to show me the field, but I was working too hard and when I had the time he was flying somewhere!

Yes, Airport Road, "Hobby Center", it's opposide the Hertz (and Budget) offices.
At the Clock Tower Roundabout, drive in the direction of the airport, over the next roundabout, 200 meters further down at your left hand side.

The Nad Al Sheba airfield does not accept jets anymore due to the proximity of the highway/staples.
The jet airfield is on the Al Ain road, passed the new Dubai Rugby facility. It is lost in the middle of the desert. 600 ft by 60 concrete, proper shades.
Really nice and quite in the middle of the week. Can get busy during the week-end.
I could possibly show you the place if you need.
I'm sure that if I can't do it due to my time table, Sami or Darryl would be happy to assist you.
Anyway this will be a good occasion to discuss about IJMC and the poor choice they made this year if you see what I'm talking about...

Also, the Dubai Hobby Center is quite useless for jets modelers. They do have some jets on display but know nothing about them...
There is a little shop in Karama where I go from times to times called Hobby World that stocks a lot of heavy duty JR stuff.
I get 97% of my stuff from Leon/Darryl ( BVM reps ) or Todd @ Dreamworks...
The local modeller who is by far the most knowledgeable in the jet area is Ahmed-Nasser. Extremely nice chap as well and very good friend of mine. People call him "teacher" because he is always ready to help at the field and has a 10 years+ experience in jets building and flying. Another fantastic local guy is Sallah. Always laughing and joking and very fine helicopter/jets pilot ( you should see his monster scale jet powered helicopters )...
Among expatriate guys there are Darryl, Sami, Lee, Reno, Leon, Derek who are all jet flyers and good friends as well.
Darryl is the most experienced of us in Jets/model flying and the cleanest/best builder I've ever seen.
So as you can see the Dubai jet scene is quite busy...

Hi Oliver,
I know Sami and Leon very well and whenever we meet at Jetpower it's hugs and kisses!!!
I do not know Darryl, but will be very happy to meet with all of you. I will definitely try to make time to meet and discuss all the issues with decisions over the Masters and other stuff of mutual interest.
I will be carrying my cellphone with me, which I will pm to you.
Best regards,
Chris
