RE: Fei Bao F/A-18F Repaint and Build
Not much to report on lately, I have just been redoing all the hinges (finally done) and will be moving onto the gear doors and hinging for them and then hopefully to primer.

"LOL, well it wont be flying at CA Jets I would say but I will be more than happy to strike the gong on behalf of the F-15 "
Ian, no offense but that is my favorite part of the CaJets 08 movie, when the F-15 bonks it, and "Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh" Gong! It flows perfectly with the song. Ladies and Gentleman please!
Saliva has another good one out now, if Paul is listening in on this forum "Family Reunion" on the CINCO DIABLO ALBUM. I think the song would be fitting for the folks that gather down there. Just my .02.
F-18 looks bueno man. Nick

No offense taken at all Nick, especially since the F-15 getting "gonged" in the movie isn't mine buddy I believe that is your boy Sean Evans or Lowell Wexler. Take another look, it is a Yellow ARF and I don't have one of those, mine is Israeli camo. I agree though, that was pretty good!
How is the Yellow 18 coming along?

Talk to Dan Gill at details4Scale, he already has a package together for the big Yellow F-18, great stuff.
Hopefully I will be moving on to the other lights soon, right now I am just doing a bunch of body work and what not, such a pain[:@]

RE: Fei Bao F/A-18F Repaint and Build
Ok, been mostly doing some of the nick nack stuff but got some other things done. I added some carbon fiber tape along the seams of the nose and this significantly made it stronger. The nose felt a bit flimsy and I had some CF tape so I said what the heck. I also put in the blind nuts for the nose gear while there was plenty of room in the nose. Right now I am mounting the gear doors again as the main door was on the wrong side.
Oh, also, I have been fiddling with idea of making the canopy and refueling probe operational. What are all your thoughts? I am hesitant because it would be a lot of extra effort for minimal effect possibly. Also it would make maintenance rough having the cockpit fixed in there and I would have to make most things accessible through the rear hatch. Let me know what you all think.

HI,
Just my two cents with the FB F18F and a Tam F18...I have chosen not to bother with anything that gets in the way.. I have kept mine such that the pilot tubs are part of te canopy so I cansee everything inside between flights.
Just my thoughts, I like the KISS principle
Hope you have many great flights with this plane,
Dave

Progress is being made but mostly I am filling gaps and old screw holes. I can take some pics of how I do this if people want but it is mostly some Bondo work. I didnt like the gap where the canopy met the fuse towards the back so I filled it to a much tighter tolerance. I will try and post some more pics later today.

Ok, gear doors have been re-hinged and reinstalled. All I have left to do is to drill the hinges and secure them down with 2-56 screws and bolts. The outer rear doors of the main landing gear I did a little different because there was a zero clearance situation for part of the hinge. You will be able to see how I did the fix in the last couple pictures. Also I started using brass wire instead of the screws in case I needed to remove the doors for any reason at the field or for maintenance. Saves tons of time!!
I am also sealing up the gaps in the main gear. Some of them are a little too big for my liking.

Hello Friends:
I put you a photo for join the doors and use an only piston for move all each side. This way you only need 1 piston for each 3 doors, 3 piston in all plane and not 9 pistons.
The red lines are a link (2mm rod) for joint the hinges in the back doors and for joint the back door and the front door you use another link that move the doors at time. You need to make a hole at side the doors for put in the link.
Best Regards from Spain.

RE: Fei Bao F/A-18F Repaint and Build
Well I just got word that my stencils and dry transfers are on their way. I have to say that it has been a great pleasure to work with Get Stencils. They bend over backwards to get you exactly what you want and their prices will be unbelievable when you hear them. I will post all that data when I get the final product. Not much progress lately though since I have been finishing a plane for a friend but I ordered the new Airpower cylinders and they are on their way for the gear doors. Hope to be back on the bug soon!

Well, while I was away at CA Jets this weekend my 1/48th scale plastic model showed up fo which I will be using as a reference for replacing panel lines and light locations and what not. Now that I am done building OPP I can get back on this baby. More updates soon to come!

No problem Extra, I got the plastic model for the light placement on the strakes. The stock ones are way too large for scale so I am going to measure off the model and find the proper sizes. For now I am planning on pulling some heated PETG plastic over a dome form to make the lenses in the rear.

ian,
how'd you get "get stencils" to do your stencils? I sent them a email asking for a quote on a markings and paint mask set, and they said the "scale" was to small.. This is for the 1/7th F18 from YA... it got me scratching my head.
