Default Rolling Vulcan!!

I bet some must have heard about Vulcan Bomber capable of actually rolling in flight, well all those who think it's BS and a massive airplane like that can't roll well you better think again!!

Yep is sure is great music, i really like the 3/4 ways down in video when documentary starts and Vulcan goes vertical while rolling, they even show the footage from inside the cockpit also...Just amazing how swiftly a huge wing like Vulcan can roll like that!...thought i'll share with all on here.

If a Boeing 707 can do a barrel roll a Vulcan should have no problems at all. At least it's military!

When you think about it the Vulcan was the world's first flying wing heavy bomber to actually enter service, preceding the B-2 by about 50 years, amazing. Also amazing is the Brit's built three different heavy bombers at the same time, the Vulcan, Valiant & Victor. Probably one of the reasons they do not build bombers (or much of anything themselves) any more. - John.

Cool video. The first part of the music, sounded like I was watching an old Thunderbirds or Stingray movie! Either way I'll fwd this to Steve E and Sam Snyder so they can start practicing (or is it practising?) the rolls on their Vulcan!

Finally!! An aircraft video without that STUPID Kenny Loggins song! If I knew how to time travel, I'd go back and find Kenny's mom the day after conception and slip her one of those 'Morning after pills', thus preventing the Top Gun soundtrack from being written! Sorry if that offends any pro-lifers out there. Anyhow, I bet the Avro Vulcan provided plenty of shade for its mechanics! Gotta love it!

Ceratinly is a pleasure to watch that video again...but did Tex ever do a half loop with a roll off the top, like the Vulcan and Victor did at the Farnborough airshow ;-) ?! Not sure if the Valiant ever did that manouver though - DG used to fly them...maybe he'll pitch in and tell us.

Cheers,

Dick

I don't think that the Vulcan, cool as it is, fits the definition of a flying wing. I see two big thingies sticking outta the wing that are not "wing". One is a fuse (full length!) and the other is a vertical stab!

Don't remember hearing of the Valiant ever doing a roll off the top, Dick, just not enough grunt. (4 Avons). A barrel roll in even large aircraft is no big deal, done it many times in the 737 (in the sim!) Easy lesson, : 250 -275 Knots pull to about 25-30 degrees nose up, apply full power and full aileron, a little back pressure to keep positive G and apply full aileron. Over the top as the nose starts to drop ease the power off and resume level flight !! 757 wil do it too AND remain within G and IAS limits ! Just don't try it in the air, its a sackable offence !!!!

Anyone seen the demo in the 757 of the NZ Air Force, just shows what can be done with a light aircraft and stacks of thrust !

Regards, David Gladwin.

PS How about you Airbus pilots trying it in the sim too, your FBW should cope. ?
