Default Ceramic Blanket Adhesive?

What adhesive and method are you fellows using to attach the ceramic blanket to the upper side of the fuse? I'll be installing the blanket directly above the pipe where its single before becoming a double-wall pipe. From the color of the pipe (from a previous airplane), I can tell this is where its really hot. Needs to be well secured and not get blown away.

Hi temp copper RTV made by Locktite or similar. I wrap the blanket in heavy duty aluminum foil and seal the backside with a thin film of rtv then apply a drop on each corner and then randomly in the middle. Press into place and weigh down overnight.

Cheers

I just did mine and use zapadapa goo 2, and sealed the edges with aluminum tape.

Oh yeah, also.....are you using a full bypassed system? If so, there should be no air "blowing" through the fuse to blow the blanket out??? All the air that enters the inlet, blows through and out the tail? Nick

I simply glue the blanket with CA gel
Mac Master Carr sells a 600°c aluminium adhesive tape. I use it to seal the edges of the blanket.

Use the search function, and look for "Fabricating a thermal blanket".
There are plenty of pictures and words, including materials to do the job.

Permatex Copper Spray-A-Gasket Hi-Temp Adhesive Sealant works great. It's a high temperature automotive gasket cement. Use it like contact cement, just spray it on the blanket, let it get tacky then press into place. A small spray can costs about $4 at your local auto parts store. In areas that are exposed to high radiant heat, like near the exhaust cone/pipe inlet, I cover the blanket with aluminum tape (available at Home Depot and hardware stores).

Thanks for the input guys. The system is not fully bypassed, its open to quite a bit of airflow. The airplane is a Byron F-20 converted to turbine. I reduced the inlet size by about 1/2 but chose not to install inlet ducts. Its been an interesting project, nearly complete now. Am currently priming, getting ready to paint final colors. Expect to have it ready for test flights in March.

Just another suggestion....rather than using carcinogenic ceramic blanket, fiberglass does the same job. Admittedly you don't want to breathe that in either but my understanding is that it is quite a bit safer. I don't bother with either. The best insulation for a fuselage skin is an air gap created by a sheet of thin aluminium on some wooden standoffs. More effective than all of the above, especially if you have airflow through the fuse.

Food for thought..

Craig.
