Default Fuel...

Here comes another noob question [sm=red_smile.gif]? Where do I buy fuel in the RI/Mass area and should I get Kero or Jet-A?

The engine (JC Falcon) has 23 minutes on it. Do I need to find out what it was previously run on and stick with that?

I have searched google but I'm not coming up with anything that helpful?

Also, Would I be best off with one of those extravagant $200 fueling stations or can I come up with something on my own?

Thanks, Peter

cant help with the fuel supplier location but you can used either fuel as long as you add oil, make your own fueling station from a plastic 25lt drum make a bracket for a fuel pump from you local shop add a battery and filter and switch and thats it.
i made my own and its as good as a $200 one

Yeah, you'd be better off with a jersey modeler.

Jet-A: Open up the phone book (or google) airport in RI/Mass. Drive to the closest one and go to the fueling guys. Ask them how you can buy some Jet-A for your bad Arse jet.

Here's my google search for you

Kero: Buy K-1 from any home depot or other hardware store. I buy Kero from Rotten Robbie there are six near me (Bay area, ca)

Here's one search result for kerosene in your area.

Now go fly some jets.

in the upper states where the cold weather seems to hang on, we can get Kero at most gas stations, and it is selling for about 2.50 a gallon, instead of going to Home depot and paying 8 bucks a gallon for it. 90% of the time I do get it from the corner gas station. but on occasion I do buy it from the airport where we fly the jets and that is Jet-A.....

been useing the pump Kero for 6 years now and NEVER had a problem....

Jet-A REEKS compared to K-1. I don't want my shop to stink so much when the INEVITABLE drops leak here and there. Your engine doesn't care what it used to eat one way or the other.

K-1 from the hardware stores is clean and well packaged but in my limited experience is 2x the pump price and unavailable in the summer months anyway. I did a Google search for K-1 or Kerosene +(my city) and found a dealer nearby.

I love my Jersey Modeler fueler, it's very high quality and makes the one I bought from BVM look like something my dog dropped in the yard. Too much trouble to build my own in my case. Whatever U use, consider putting the oil in FIRST and pumping/pouring the fuel in on top of that to facilitate a thorough mixing of the two.

Hope this helped, Don.

Helps big time!

Does kero exhaust smell the same as JetA? The first thing guys say when they get back from a jet meet is "it smelled like a real jet!"

I think that's coooool!

Thanks so much, Peter

Nope, smells diffnt when burned too. Cleaner IMO.

FWIW, you do NOT want to be sniffing THESE fumes because the turbine oil is apparently VERY toxic bad doo doo.

IMO the kero smell is a bit "cleaner" than the smell of Jet-A but is close enough to the same smell, most dont know any different. I personally have one of the new vent-less style plastic 5gallon kerosene cans from the local hardware store ($25) a sullivan "streamer" fuel pump (No. S754) a see thru fuel filter (from the local auto parts store) a 3S A123 2300 battery, some extra large tygon fuel line, some dubro fuel can fittings and a small micron fuel filter after the pump for my setup. Cost me about $100 and works perfectly everytime

Your car will smell less afterwards if You use Kerosene instead of Jet-A1. Anyway, in an air show I´d use Jet-A for the right feeling to the audience. Normal flying and for the sake of less headache-Kerosene.
