Default Troy Built Models DV8R Production Model is HERE

Everyone,
The Production Model of the DV8R is in! It will be at Jets Over Kentucky on Display. There will 2 DV8R's there flying also! Gene Payson and I(Gerry Hinshaw) will have Prototype 1 and 2 there flying. Guys I have put 6 flights on mine and all I can say is WOW!!! I have a Jet Central Super Eagle 120 in it and have it turned down to 28 pounds of thurst. So saying that, This last weekend went to a Fly-in and had it clocked at 180mph!! No Crap guys!! It was GREAT!! It was also clocked doing a SLOW dirty pass at 30mph. I am going to get this jet at Kentucky and get her done to give full report! This is a 3-piece wing. I will also be putting a Artes Super Eagle in it with a Jet Central Smoke System.

Curious to know how it will fly with an engine at the low end of the range -say a P-80. The original DV8R was designed around a P-80. Are there any plans to fly the prototype planes with smaller engines?

Yes.... It will be tested with min. to max. I have tested the prototype at ALL speeds! And thurst. It is really GREAT at all speeds!!! I have tested it with 18 to 28 pounds of thurst. I have had no problems with it so far! At 28 pounds it hit 180mph on a straight away !!

I Agree!! It is my favorite plane to fly also!!! It is so smooth!!! It was also clocked at under 30 on a slow fly-by!! I will give FULL report on building and ANY thing else it may need!!!

Gerry, I think she will go 200 down hill. My DV8R has an AMT Mercury HP 20lbs thrust and the airplane is 43 lbs at take off. Eagle tree shows 180 out of a dive and 165 flat out.

Enjoy, they are great birds.

John,

Guess What???? A P70 puts out 17.5 pounds of thurst! This will work just fine in this jet!!!! My first DV8R had a old P80 in it, WHICH only put out 17.5 pounds!! So your P70 would have NO PROBLEM pushing this!!! Gerry

John, My DV8R weighs 43lbs at take off and my 20lbs thrust turbine gets off in 175 feet...........A 17 lbs thrust turbine in the TBM DV8R will be fine.. the wing produces an amazing amount of lift...

I think a p70 would keep the overall weight very light. I bet with a little flap she would rotate at about 100-125 feet.

Also the TBM DV8R comes in at 22 pounds dry!!! So a P70 would be really good!!!

Great -that's plenty for me, so it looks like I won't have to invest in a P-120/Super Eagle.

LOL..... Only if you want to go faster! My Super Eagle pushes it to 180mph. I think if I turned the turbine up to max and come out of a dive it would be easly over 200mph.
