Default Aeroshell 500 supply?

Is any one else having trouble getting this? Have been using "OIL STORE" and received email saying possibly August before they would have it back in stock! [>:]

Scott

Email received from The Oil Store reads:
Our supplier of AeroShell Fluids and Turbine Oils is experiencing temporary issues in maintaining expected supply levels. Therefore, product will not be available until August 2009. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused and will keep you inform with the status of your order.

Hi Scott - Google Aero Shell 500 and you will find several other sources that do have it in stock. The down side is that I can't find anyone with prices as low as the
Oil-Store.

I highly recommend this online store: http://www.skygeek.com/60072.html

I got a case in a week. They provide great service.

I have been wondering for years where the Oil Store gets it's supply. Every order I have ever placed has been filled promptly...with case after case of damaged cans...some so dented and crushed it was difficult to open with a church key.

Just wondering...

I'll buy 5 to 10 cans if we could get John to bring some to KY jets.

I'm out. I have 2 to 3 flights left, and I'm done.

Fossil fuels rationing is starting sooner than I thought.

Try Aircraft Spruce, Wicks Aircraft, Chief Aircraft. Almost all of the full scale aircraft parts suppliers carry it. Also the local aviation oil distributor in Louisville Ky is Apollo Oil on Crums Lane. I think Albert Oil Co on Diode Ct in Jeffersontown carries it also.

Anybody know how long you can store the oil before there might be a problem with it? Thanks.

Well, I've got some reg automotive oil that's is still in sealed containers that's about 20 years old. I opened one of them up and it was like thick crud oil. Oil is only good for a couple of years sealed up. After that it, the additives that are in it start to separate from the oil. That goes for any oil.

Nope. Turbine oil has an expiration date stamped on the can. As said else where...it chemically begins to deteriorate after a period of time.

the oil i use has a retest date, not an expiration date and it's 36 months after the date of manufacturing, typically it doesn't sit anywhere near that long but in roughly 03-04 i found a case in one of the old flight line trucks with a MFG date of 1985 (so roughly 20yrs), i sent in a sample to be tested and it returned OK, i used it in my turbines and never had any problems with it, YMMV.

Good info here! Thanks guys. I just ordered a case from skygeeks. I guess I'll have to buy more jets just to make sure I don't let the oil sit too long

Just a heads up about skygeeks.com. When I ordered a case from them last week it showed in stock. When I checked my order today it shows backordered. I checked the site right after that and they still show "in stock" so I suggest if you order from them, you do it over the phone and confirm it's in stock.

If anyone is still looking for Aeroshell 500, I just spoke to Tom at airplaneoil.com . They have about four cases left. Pretty good price on case quantity @ about $10.00 a quart including shipping.
