RE: 1/6th A-6 Intruder Scratch Build
I got more of the foam glued in tonight and took the hot wire to the extra and craved more away. I still need to add foam in the bays that have the jig holding the pipe and in the areas of the intakes. I am going to mold the front of the intakes separately so some work needs to be done to that are and I also need to fill in the areas where the wing root is currently. But man, I can see an airplane in there, I know its REALLY early but man I am getting excited, love it!!

In some places I did Oliver. The whole tail section of the fuse could be done like this and some parts of the forward half but for the most parts I am going to be hitting the plug with a sander soon to get a final shape, as well as using a liberal dose of spackle as well.

Yes, just to make sure you realize it, as soon as there is a convex curve between two formers ( which is usually the case for 80 % of the plug ), you cannot cut with the hot wire against the formers.
For example, it seems what you have cut too deep behind the canopy and in the intake area. At the end of the day it is not dramatic, but it will cost you some time...

Thats what the spackle is for. Don't worry Oliver, all will work out, after all, it is a "rough" plug right now and all I have is time. I am going to be adding in some here and sanding it off so the shape will be as it should.

RE: 1/6th A-6 Intruder Scratch Build
Its coming along Carlos. I am slappin down some serious spackle right now. I should have my rudder core tomorrow so I can sheet that and get ready to permanantly mount it to the tail. I made some stands to hold the fuse when I pull it off the jig, which should be this week. Then I can fill the last of the open bays with foan and get this baby ready for fiberglassing. I will post some photos of the rudder as soon as I get to work on it, other than that I have just been gluing and sanding.

Ok Carlos, here you go. Some pics show the spackle going on and I am quite pleased with the way it is going down. I filled another bay tonight and also removed the plug from the jig and placed it in some crutches I made on the CNC. They fit pretty good and hold it securely. I was shocked at how lite the plug was when I picked it up. I am glad I went with the aluminum tubing instead of the conduit and the lite weight spackle will be nice too.

During my trip to the LHS yesterday my good friend behind the counter reminded me that the Oakland Air Museum has an A-6 on display. Guess where I will be this weekend with Digital SLR in hand? hmmmmmmmmmmm tough one

RE: 1/6th A-6 Intruder Scratch Build
Sorry for the lack of Updates guys and gals but I have been trying to crunch as much data while I am moving along with this build. I have nearly gotten al the bays filled with foam, I think only 2 are left. I went to the Air Museum and was able to get a rare chance to crawl all over the KA-6D that they have there on display and got tons of great pics. As soon as all of the foam is on the plane I will post some more pics and I am still waiting on a coupole of orders for vacuum bagging materials for the rudder so as soon as they arrive I will be able to glue up the rudder as well.

RE: 1/6th A-6 Intruder Scratch Build
Today I got the rudder skins on and vacuum bagged them. Everything went fairly well so I am hoping to get some decent results but only time will tell. I am thinking I will pull it out of the bag in about 10 hours or so, that should be enough time for the sinks to setup. Here is a pic and a short video I did.
