20 miles to our local club field that has a 400 foot paved runway. 40 and 60 miles to the closest small airports that allow us to fly and have long runways. Funny, my first few jet flights I thought I had to have the longer runways but the 400 foot one isn't that bad after you get your mind set to it's deminsons.

In Tucson where I live our local field is 17 miles. But I am the only one to fly jets there. The field I do fly at is 31.2 miles from my home, several jet guys there. About 1 hour. Not to bad compared to some of you.

Hi All
I'll be heading out to a local dry lake bed once I and a few buddies finish our turbines. Around 45 min away. Nothing to burn, except for what we bring with us. No AMA waivers, no field police.
FOD could be a problem without a good system.

Charles,
PBRCA field in Delray if your jet is small and it floats well (water on both ends of the runway, but that is supposedly going to be addressed shortly), then Mayham Park in Ft. Lauderdale. The Makos in Homesteadis next, and then Orlando.

Pete,
I'm relocating to FL to fly jets. And I don't even have a finished jet! [sm=bananahead.gif]
Nearest field to Palm Beach Gardens?

For you guys that drive 1+ hours, I'm wondering how often you do it? Is it an every weekend thing?
What is considered to be a good amount of turbine flying? Like I was saying in another post, Ive managed to get in just over a dozen flights (maybe 5 or 6 full days) in a 3 month period. Although that doesn't seem like much.

I admit that I would only do a few flights on any given day but I am getting to the point where I am flying more. My son on the other hand is burning kero like it is going out of style....The dang kid flys better than his old man, the teacher has become the student.

PBRCA field in Delray
Thanks for that info! I'll have to check it out. Are they taking new members?
The "water," can you fly off of it?

This will be your best bet (see link below) for flying jets down that way. I used to belong to this club and they are a great bunch of guys.

Spoiled here I fly at Mavis Henson Field in Woodland. The field is about 5 miles away and takes less then 10 min to get there from my house in Woodland. Lot of guys in the area fly here and some travel an hour or more. On any given weekend there is a lot of Kero in the pits to be burned.

I cant move just to be closer to a jet field. That would just be wrong... Wouldn't it?

From: Nashville, TN,
My local field is only 5 minutes. I don't fly jets there much any more though. Bowling Green Ky is only an hour drive and twice the runway. A few of us usually get together "On Any Sunday" or Saturday.

Joined a more 'jet friendly' club last year after a (failed) attempt by the secretary of my club of 10 years to have them banned.
About a 40 min drive to the new field. - John.

My club is at about 5km from my home, 10 min drive trough town. Located at a military paracommando base, we have a 140m grass runway for our use (good short grass without bumps). About 5 turbine flyers at our club.
At about 20km there is a better known club, because every year they organise a well known international jetmeeting in belgium (jets over pampa). Haven't flown there yet, but hope to next year.
