I will try and post more tonight. My best guess is going to be in Decatur, IL. It is about 30 miles from Monticello. Witht eh U of I home game hotel rooms are non-existant.
Do you guys think that a 30 mile drive is too far? I will be honest that for me it is, but I am a broken down old retired jet pilot.

I just checked on BestWestern.com and the hotel in Monticello (which is at the entrance to the field) still has rooms at $67/night for Thursday night and ~$70/night for Friday/Saturday. The Super 8 in Champaign near the mall (I-74 between Prospect and Neil) still has rooms available at $58/night through Travelocity. The Best Western in Monticello also has a Military rate of a flat $70/night for any government/military folks:
"Available to current North American national, state, county, and municipal government employees. Active and retired US military personnel and their immediate family, and employees of US federally funded hospitals and universities travelling on leisure or official business."

Lewis,
I just booked a roomat the Days Inn in Farmer city about 18 miles due north of the Field.
I made the reservation on line at: www.daysinn.com and it was $59.00 plus tax.

just looked it up: 922 iron horse place, monticello, Il
it appears to be just off the Freeway. is this correct?
is it a morning field, afternoon field or all day field? (sun orientation)

How about a map, or directions to the field from the main highways also.

Hey Bob good to hear from ya....
I stumbled across this thread and realized:
(1) the event is just a couple of weeks away
(2) it would be possible to work ahead of time to accomodate the drive there and back w/o loss of pay (which i'm unable to do for Super Jets South)
(3) my buddy Big John "throw a wrench across the hangar deck" Redman lives nearby
soooo.......i know there will be plenty of bull stuff and a never ending barrage of funny stories
the Rhino is flying great amigo. afte 28 flights, i think i've got the CG just about right.
mapquest / google map doesn't show a developed field but that's where the event flyer directions drop you off.
so how 'bout it all you Fightin Illini fans.....is the sun in your face early, late, all day or no factor?
cheers
buck

More of a noon to night field. Runway faces east to west. Sun is over head at noon, but most of you jet guys tend to live on the deck and fly it hard so it should not be a real problem.
Of course Buck if you are still a pu$$y and can't handle it, you can fly foamies in the armory and not worry about the sun. Us Air Force guys have no issue, but I am not so sure about the Marines.[:-]
Is it on yet??? I doubt you can take the heat!!
Might be best for you to stay at the house and watch lifetime television for women with my wife; I'll fly the Rhino the way it was meant to be flown!!!!
Have a room for you if you come. Bring your retirement check, it should just about cover it!!!

The link shows where Iron Horse Pike ends. The road over to the field continues off the end of Iron Horse Pike. The flying field property is located above where the pond is shown on the map.

I just called the Super 8 in Champaign, they have had a couple of cancellations and have rooms available. You can also book online at www.super8.com. The rooms are normally about $60/night, if you check in Thursday and check out Sunday morning, the rooms are about $34/night when you book online.
