Hi everybody, first time to post here.
I recently got a great deal on a used byron f-16, it 's my first gas ducted fan and I had a few questions about the fuel system.
I have attached a image showing how I think it works, but I'm not sure if it's right.
When I got the plane I noticed the fuel nozzle on top of the fuse right behind the canopy, this was not hooked up, but I would like to hook it up for easy fueling. Let me know if the picture looks correct in hooking the, system, and the fueling nozzle.

Should I clamp the hose leading to the pipe during fueling to prevent fuel from getting in there? I think this happened the last time I tryed to fuel it, it filled up. Any tips on keeeping this from happening would help alot.

Ok built about 10 of these and this is the best way,
take out the fuel system you have get one robart super filler this is a black fuel valve that when you open it it closes of the fuel to the carb!and when you close it it turns on the fuel this is important that you dont flood the motor when you start the engine you start turning the motor before you close the valve and when you shut down you open the valve, get a 32 oz soda bottle, use the cap that comes with the bottle just drill two holes for the brass pick up and air vent then use the Sullivan tank stoppers, glass in a brass u shape 1 " plate by about 5" long on the inside top of the fuse bend the ends so when you place the soda bottle in it you will hold in place with rubber bands this makes it removable! use the small header tank in the cocpit area , connect the vent of your main tank soda bottle to the pipe pressure fitting(I would replace that #5 Byron with a weston) connect your pick up on your main tank to your vent of your header connect your pickup on your header to your robart filler in nipple, your robart out nipple connect to you BVM mixture control if you dont have GET ONE and your mixture control to your carb run 5% wildcat fuel only, and mccoy #9 plugs you need to lean the low end allot on the os 91, and run the high end rich ,dont lean out the high end, lean the high end tell it peaks and back it out untill it drops off and is smoking allot the engine will lean out after the first lap,the last plane I set up this way it never ever quit! GOOD LUCK I learned to fly on a Byron f-16 passing the radio with My instructor JACK JET tapping my shoulders on which way to move the stick...

One thing is certain, you will get a multitude of replies on this and everyone will have their own way of doing it. I have only had three Byron F-16's and I am certain that getting rid of the original fuel manifold is a must which is not in your diagram. clamping the line to the pipe will just prevent the tanks from filling, as the tanks will simply pressurize and stop filling. either disconnect the line from the pipe when filling or else really watch carefully when you are nearly full to prevent fuel from going into the pipe. Then make sure you plug the fill line when you go to run the engine to prevent air from entering the fill line. I would never say anyone else's way is wrong, or mine is right. you set up as diagram is shown should work with the above cautions..
oh yeah, to make sure that the big tank is filled completely you will need to make sure that the vent tubing is bent up very near to the top of that tank so that it fill to the top before it would ever go out to the pipe.

Some of you guys may be jumping the gun here. If the fuel valve is located on top of the fuse, he may already have a robart fueler installed. It's black and tear dropped shaped. The byron fueler was 2 1/2 to 3 inch long rectangular contraption with a lever on top. The set up in your picture is a 20-24 oz. tank with a smaller header tank. Nothing wrong with that set up at all. Jack's soda bottle set-up works well too. Anyway, see what kind of fuel valve you have on top of your jet and let us know. You can see pictures of f-16 tank set-up in my gallery.

You asked for another idea........I used to use a pair of Sullivan DF 11 oz tanks tucked into the wing shelf. One on each side of the engine in front of the retracts and a 2 oz hopper on one side in the same shelf. plumbe in series. ....... engine to Hopper, to tank on same side then to tank on the other side to pressure fitting on pipe. I have set them up with out the pressure fitting also. Just had to run it a bit richer.
The above system along with putting the tuned pipe up under the canopy, really cleans up the airflow inside of the Byron f-16. Worth about 15 MPH. BION.
