The A denotes a new motor, new top case and more torque then the original design due to the week top case and gear slop problem with the 8611 servo.

Pete,

Thought that I had some 8611's, I only had the 8611A's. However the following is from the JR website:

Key Features

Ultra 260oz of torque (4.8v)/ 320oz (6v)
New case design to handle the additional loads
Ultra precise alloy gears
Digital design offers outstanding holding torque and precision
NOTE: The 8611 is non-upgradeable to the 8611A

I highlighted the "new case design", but there may be more to it than that.........

It's my understanding that JR also 'standardized' the output shafts (dia. and spline) on the 8611a's. I had a bunch of 8611's that seemed to have several different output shaft sizes - Read mounting servo arms could be a pain in the *****. The good news is if you send in your 8611's they can update them with the 8611a parts.
