Default BVM Electra kit finished! EDF 4010

I finally finished the Electra last night (perfect timing as Inspirations arrived this AM!!) This model was painted by Mikey, in my opinion the finest model painter in the world, super light and super smooth. Because I started this so long ago it has a 4010 EDF, but now with 40c Thunderpower 10s packs I think performance will be good. After a long debate (with myself!) I decided to use a Powerbox Sensor switch with two TP 1320 Rx packs. I was going to run the retracts on one side and the controls on the other side, but decided to run both packs through the Rx as usual.

Hopefully if the weather forecasters are wrong as usual I'll fly it Sunday

Very nice paint job. It flies great with the 4010.

Test flight today, not ideal conditions as it had only just stopped raining and the grass was wet. Even so the take-off was surprisingly short. Still breaking in the 40c TP 6500 10s packs, so don't have an idea of true performance but the odd blast showed it's not as fast as the Sparks I fly, but it is quiet and lands very slowly. Problems with the mechanical nose set up stopped play today, I've listened to Uncle Bob and fitted a metal arm to the nose!;-)
If the forecast is wrong I'll fly it tomorrow at Chalgrove.

Dave

Looks like you still had some fun even with the crapy weather. I ran Dustins Electra through the speed trap at E-jets @180 on the same setup.

Hopefully get the chance to give it some beans tomorrow, it's very quiet so you don't get that speed scream!

Your thrust tube does not look right, you should try to taper it down. From
the pics you provided it looks over sized and that will cost you some thrust.
Get with uncle Bob to find the correct diameter for the rear of the tube
Dave the one in the pic on the BVM site is an F-86 Sabre and they are telling you
to taper down the end to match the Sabre I dont know the specs on the Electra...

It's to the lazer marks! Lots of taper already compared with the Fan, not checked the FSA, but I'm sure it's correct

Dave, if you are on the ticks you are fine it will be 3 1/2 inches. I think the Sabre is smaller since the inlet is smaller.

Thanks for the pics and the update, your bird looks great. I may be over your side of the pond soon, I'll be sure to try and stop by your store to say hello. Good luck with your flights tommorow.

You should be 3.5" according to BVM's web site;

"Electra Tailpipe - 31.375" length 3.5" exit diameter"

Looks right, the Electra mylar rubs on the fuse exit...

Another flight today, little tail heavy (I ignored instructions as BVM normally goes nose heavy, but I over did it!) Nice flying aeroplane, very quiet compared with my Spark's, but speed is less...
With corrected c of g I expect a really nice aeroplane.
Thanks to a speedy del service from West London Models I have a second set of 6500 40c cells now so more flights soon.

Bryce, looking forward to seeing you again

Hi Dave,

Nice looking Electra. The first one I built weighed 13.75 pounds ready to fly with batteries installed. Back then I used TP Extremes V1 5000 packs and an Aeronaut TF-4000 fan.

Ok, mine is 11lb 3oz without cells.

The 6500 10s are a lot heavier.

I know its not what youre asking as my electra is an ARF, but with the 12s 5000 TP extreme V1, mine came in just a smidge under 14lbs.

And if its not quick enough for you on 10s, Ill happily lend you my 12s pack for a flight at classic jets. It would be interesting to see how they 12s TP Version 1 compare to the 40c rated 10s pack.
( I think the 4010 is just the same as the 5012 should still work)

Yes the motor is the same, but you may want to double check the controller settings. SET the motor timing to LOW if you plan to run a 4010 on 12S

I have a brand new set of 12s 25c TP's. Infact I was going to offer them to you cheap! un used.
Bob-Yep know about the controller setting change.
Raf, yep boring but I grew to really like the scheme...even though I gave Mikey a link to the BVM site and missed the nose change-I prefer the original red nose :-(

I'll add some weight and try it some more, the first set of cells are still new, I'm being kinder to these than normal since the cost is above my usual not bothered limit!
