How Stupid Is....

Hey,
You might have noticed that on our websites (www.yellowaircraft.com and www.yellowaircraftplanes.com), there's no longer any reference to an "F-16", "F-22" or "P-38" but, rather, references to a "Mako", "Stealth Fighter" and "Fork-Tailed Fighter" respectively. Apparently, Lockheed-Martin is imposing its ownership rights to the [former] names. Isn't this complete bull? Aren't those "F" designations military, which should mean "taxpayer funded"?

I think the military designation and name of any government owned program belongs to the tax payers. The design however........wait....Didn't we pay for that too?
The lockheed-Martin Executives are fools if they think this kind of action will bring them anything other than bad press and a poor reputation. As if any company in the modeling world could afford to pay them royalties! And do they want the legacy of their design to be know as 'Forked tailed fighter'?

All the aircraft manufactures are doing it. If you get licensed from them then you are good but like everything it cost$$$. Here is a picture of my friends scratch built bell helicopter and he had to get a license from textron-bell for it. But it helped him since he jumped through the hoops and others didn't he is the only one able to sell them now.

You mean Senator John McCain and Defense Secretary Gates, right? Good call on their parts. The Raptor program was a Turkey from start to finish. Read the Defense Secretary's report on the matter. It's a cool airplane, but $370M per copy was an outrageous cost given its MANY and SERIOUS deficiencies.... Look, how 'bout we keep the political stuff off of here? This isn't the place....

They said all that crap to stop building them Shaun. The F22 is by far the best aircraft in the sky. I remember talking to a pilot of one and he was talking about in red flag a group of 2 raptors could take on 6 F18s easy. Instead they want the JSF because of money. Here read this and don't drink the democrat cool aide

Shaun just talk to whoever you have to and see if you can get that paint scheme changed so I can order one. I'm not sure about the markings or the F.S. numbers though, maybe Sam Wickwiki knows........

Thanks
* Oh yea, the paint scheme tends to change as well, depending on who's around.

Nothing in the sky can touch it. There has been only 1 Raptor "killed" in all the simulated combat exercises yet..and that one was on a technicality. A Rules of Engagement mistake where a F-18 was able to "regenerate" into the fight after just getting shot by the Raptor it then turned around and "killed" the guy who just shot him. From the takeoff position to 600+ knots by the end of the runway, cruise at military power at 1.5+Mach, and at 60,000ft. If it's a turkey then I would hate to see one in my six...oh yeah, you will never see it because it pukes out missiles from further than anyone else....you just get the rapid decompression and dual firelights to let you know it is around. The Air Force shot itself in the foot because the bird can do much more that they talk about..why do you think we wont sell it to anyone else....guess because it's a turkey.. It was killed because our SECDEF wants to save money for trucks and bullets. He thinks we will be chasin" OBL around for years. (Maybe he's right since we dont have the balls to do what we need to end the fight) The Chinese and Russians are laughing their ass off at us. Both the Russians and Chinese have 5th Generations fighters (stealth) in the works and both currently field the "double digit SAMs" with extremely long range which will pick off current generation fighters from distances we have never seen before. We man not fight the Russians or Chinese but it is guaranteed we will fight their EQUIPMENT.

I saw the same thing with red bull.. one of their field guys pressed a buddy of mine because of how he painted his jet.. These companies dont get it... I am saddened if Lockheed pressed Yellow aircraft.. that is truly sad. I have been around the full scale business all my life and I have seen this stuff come and go. I know LM is stinging from the Govt's decision to stop production at the current approved level. but it doesn't need to spill over into a non political arena. We are honoring the beauty of the aircraft by building. This is one more case of some minor small group action being imposed upon a larger, when the larger group wasn't doing anything wrong.
TP777 said it very well. the plane performs very well and performs its mission very well. I have never seen anything perform as well as that plane...that also I know personally from the cockpit of my F-16 chase plane during test... If you ever ask a pilot that flew the F-22 and any other plane, what he would like to go to war in, I would say hands down he would say the raptor.. Spent a bit of time working the program..
By the way, the cost issue is another story... There are two costs associated with a program. THe production cost and the total cost...per copy (im simplifying) The production cost was the repeatable price tag that was paid per plane. The 300+ cost stated is the total cost with the development cost wrapped in per copy. If we built 700 planes, half that cost would have been spread over each plane. the actual price tag is half that in general. I am speaking general terms. The F-16 was the same way. the plane may cost 30 million, but if the R&D cost was rolled in, and we bought 180 of them it would have been more something like 50mil. but since we bought so many, it spread the cost to the point it was much less.
thats basic acquisition process that the govt uses...( very simplified)..
All that said, I wish the companies would understand, we model planes because we love what that company produced and we wish to honor it with our time and effort. We are not trying to make big money off of copyrights and BS like that. We just want to have fun. Some of us just want to make a little money to model more and support our love of the hobby, such as Yellow...and other model companies. I know Charles is Passionate about the F-22. He has a great love for that plane...I know that personally.. I have a great love for the plane too, as I poured out my heart and soul into the program for about 4 years..trying to make it better for my buds in the field.

Hey,
You might have noticed that on our websites (www.yellowaircraft.com and www.yellowaircraftplanes.com), there's no longer any reference to an ''F-16'', ''F-22'' or ''P-38'' but, rather, references to a ''Mako'', ''Stealth Fighter'' and ''Fork-Tailed Fighter'' respectively. Apparently, Lockheed-Martin is imposing its ownership rights to the [former] names. Isn't this complete bull***t? Aren't those ''F'' designations military, which should mean ''taxpayer funded''?

Hmmm so who exactly then owns the rights to the names (words) 'Falcon', 'Raptor' and 'Lightning' and why not simply just use these as the product reference then instead???
From what I can see and according to the Oxford Dictionary at least LM have no rights to these names...
Falcon- http://www.askoxford.com:80/concise_oed/falcon?view=uk
Raptor- http://www.askoxford.com:80/concise_oed/raptor?view=uk
Lightning- http://www.askoxford.com:80/concise_...htning?view=uk

Even more disgusting is a picture I found in a magazine the other day of a jet trainer, very close in looks to the F-16 that Lockheed has built and sold oversees (to those countries that love America so much) I don't remember the name of it, but a friend of mine says he saw a flight of them in the US the other day.

Oh yea Shaun, almost forgot, while you're at it, see if you can get permission on the name too, even the decepticon would work, if all else fails just call it the star or something like that.
And get to it man, Christmas is coming!
