Mine is ordered. Should be shipping when everyone gets back from the Holiday -- somewhere around Jan 10. My wife and kids bought it for me as a Christmas present... the best present ever

I have seen some of the new production, they are much heavier...the tail end particularly seems heavy. A guy with the 1.9 has around 500g of nose weight and someone just building a 2.5 is going to need kilos of weight! The empty vertical fin weights 15% more than his larger Mephisto fin complete with servos and linkage!!

Dave is this due to the way they lay up the fibreglass and not using carbon fibre?

I would say layup and painting process. The finish was pretty good-although I know one of the 1.9’s had an issue with paint adhesion.
European type moulding has always been amongst the lightest with the access to the best resin and plywood.

the 2.5M Futura that i built came to 37.5 LB with full UAT. I build light and don't add a gram of unneeded weight anywhere from the pattern days but i know that there is no way other manufacturers could layup a plane that size that light. Here is the picture of inside. I did not do it bare.

I guess it depends on the color and coverage, color such as yellow is hard taking multiply coats . Paint adhesion could be a chemical bond, mechanical and possible some type of contaminate in the product or air.
Unless it's in an airtight paint booth anything is possible.
