New Ultra Lightning UK

I've flown a std Lightning with a P180 and P160 and the added weight and fuel makes no sense...yes yes I know P200SX has a bit more power than the P180, but fuel adds a lot.
We will see, I'm sure 160 power is enough. If you want to go faster buy a Bandit...

I use about 3,5 liters of fuel with both the P-160SX and AMT NL Olympus HP.
This give me 7 minutes of flight time and 9 minutes runtime.
One of the reason the AMT is more fuel efficient compared with the JetCat is because with the P-160SX I flew 90% full power all the time to give me decent speed, what the plane suits and to perform smooth aerobatic. With the AMT I can fly much more on partial power and therefore much more dynamic when fuel power is needed with a wider speed range.
The vertical is so much better and enjoyable!
I always thought as well "lighter is better" and this comes from my indoor F3P and 3D aerobatic past.
With bigger jets, a little more can be a advantage flying a smoother rock solid jet.
Take a look at the Skygate collection Hawk with less then 20 kilo's of weight. In my opion you really can see it is to light for its size.
Add 5 kilo's more and the jet performs so much better and realistic.
Anyway the 1,5 kilo more weight in the UL with the AMT was what "my" UL needed to be more rock solid in the air.
This is my personel preference and opinion and ofcourse everybody has there own.
But the statement bigger engines needs more fuel is not always true.
This give me 7 minutes of flight time and 9 minutes runtime.

An AMT using less fuel than a JetCat...a first for me
You are ofcourse correct that big power in a clean jet can do this. My Lightning with P160 used to fly for 15 minutes...std tanks and UAT, infact even with it's new "heavy booted" new owner he still flies for 12minutes. My Big engine Composite Super Bandit used very little fuel in a 11 minute flight as it was blasts of power only.
Yes Skygate etc Hawk is way too light...funny it does so well in competition when it looks so "toy like".
Bigger jets will carry a big wing loading Reynold numbers rule, the UL wing is a lot bigger and more efficient than the old lighting wing, so I could be swayed.

My classic Lightning had an original Jetcat Titan and averaged 12+ minute flights. A guy I fly with has a classic with a P160sx. He likes speed and goes full throttle most of the time and averages 9 minute flights. My new Ultra Lightning will have a P180 and should be able to get10 minutes of flight time on the stock tanks. I've personally seen P180 Ultra Bandits easily get 10+ minutes.
Interesting note on BVM's site about Ultra Bandit tank size and flight time- 17 minutes with 6.2L vs. 9 minutes with 4.8L. Scroll to the bottom, the Fuel Cell Discussion is above the flap servo arm addendum...

Are you filling the tanks all the way? I ask because the 2 stock tanks hold 5.8 liters

I think 7 minutes of intense flying is more then enough for me, just my preference. [8D]

I think upgrading from a G-booster 160 to a P-160SX will make no sense I think? (same thrust figures)
If you gonna invest in a new engine later, go for a P-200SX or AMT OLY.

Lex - it was good meeting you when I was back. Thanks for the cockpit! Here's the standard Lightning I'm putting together right now. Might need to do an upgrade now I've seen yours.......

Neither Amt or Jet Cat in this one guys. ( Although I know both will fly the lightning well)
I need to add another product line to the bottom of my signature I think
