Well said Jim, now can we please get back to the competition. Some of the models seem to be exquisite. Can anybody close to the comp' give any details and progress information for us stay at home flyers, particularly the Russian team. Ron.

LGM. Thanks for your point of view. It really gave your opinion of the other modelers. I'm getting ready to build a Ziroli kit and it will need graphics. I promise you they won't come from LGM Graphix.
Now back to the discussion. I think you jets guys are missing the point of my comments. I'm in no way shape or form saying let Joe public in the tents and get their booger pickers all over the planes. I'm suggesting that with the so called best of the best have them viewable.
Jim there is absolutely no thinking about myself. I'm completely on the side of the PR and support of this hobby. I had no false hopes or expectations. I knowingly went to the JWM knowing it was a competition. I also went with the realization that the event wouldn't have people right up on the planes but in a proximity of being viewable.
It has became abundantly clear that you guys feel you're better than everyone else. That's sad.
As for the event coordinatorsvi hope you guys are open minded and love this hobby as much as we do and understand our comments as hoping the event gets better and grows. I would've paid to park and enter had the event been competition and PR oriented. I'm all about supporting events. That's why I'm in this hobby. I hope you're not like the rest of the irrogant close minded people who have failed to see we want your event to be the best it can be.

Wow, ***** ***** moan moan.........
In all my years of competing in RC, be it Pattern, going to scale events, or pylon races, NEVER have I been to an event where Joe Public can walk amongst the airplanes. I don't know what the AMA rules state, but with MAAC there is to be a designated spectator area that is behind the pit area. Many fun flies I've been to the spectators are not allowed in the pit area either .
To be able to attend this event I would think would be pretty cool to begin with, to be able to see the cream of the crop from all over the world compete would be awesome. Watching competition can be boring as well, but these guys have spent thousands, or tens of thousands of dollars in order to be there, I can't blame them for not wanting the added stress of a ''noon time lineup'', or wanting to take their focus away from the event by talking about their airplane with everyone. That's what jet rallies are for, this is not just a fun jet rally when it comes right down to it.
Consider yourself fortunate if you're just able to be there! Nobody forced you to go, so enjoy what you can.
Man, who'd have thought this thread would turn into a cry fest.
Congratulations to all of the pilots and their team members who are there! Good luck to all of you!

I get it fellas....membership has its privelidges. I have to bite my tounge when a picture on RCU shows the engine I built in the toilet. (even though the engine was never designed to do what he put it through) But critisism about how things could be better for everyone at the JWM....eh irrelevent.
And to Jim...I'm not going back and re-explaining my unique position. I believe this sub-section of discussion about the show started on page 18 of the thread. You hit the target but missed the bulls-eye with me sir. I have previously stated that it is a competition and I will treat it accordingly, now that I have been babtized by fire. :-)
And whether you like him or not, ___________ should consider a different position other than public interactions. I knew when that guy walked up I didnt want to talk to him...he looked mad before he even spoke, so I tried to talk to Kevin, but he kept butting-in and inflicting his will on the situation. Not a cool head on a hot day, I knew the instant when I was told his name, it all made sense.

There was a tremendous amount of effort expended (particularly after the storm) to make this event happen. These people made it possible for you to see some of the best pilots and planes in the world.
RIGHT ON, JIM !!!

RE: US JET WORLD MASTERS
OK Guys an update. Another day in jet modelling heaven. A little cooler with high overcast and slightly stronger winds.
Saw one of the Mig 27s fly and the wings were fully swept for a short time, super flight.
The big attraction this pm was Vitaly's exquisite Yak 130. We have prepared an interview and close review of this model for the Traplet video and I am preparing a detailed article for RCJI. Took about 200 photos half of which are just the landing gear. Even the tiny bolts on the wheels are wire locked and the locking wire is correctly twisted and correctly orientated. A small but typical detail of the whole model, perfection is the only word to use. Something else I discovered in converation with Vitaly is that the landing gear struts are made of carbon fibre formed under high pressure. Stronger than aluminium and much lighter, they looked realer than real !
Preparations for flight were amazing and included spraying the landing gear with anti-static. He taxied out with ATC in Russian on the loudspeakers and performed a truly beautiful flight, ending with a landing right in front of the judges and one engine flamed out on touchdown , but was able to taxi back, again with Russian ATC on the PA to stop in front of the judges. ! Vitaly has to be the new champion and very well deserved. One has to see this model to appreciate it.
Tommy Gleissner flew the Macchi beautifully and Stephan Volker gave near perfect flight with his Hawk.
Philip Avonds seems to have an unassailable position for his class and there will be a few sore heads after tonight, Russian Vodka and Belgian Champagne.
We Brits look forward to seeing Paul D's beautiful Goshawk tomorrow, another model which gets better as you examine it and all built in his garden shed.
There were many other fine flights with superb models but after the Yak everything else is a bit of an anticlimax. The Yak is not quite perfect though, his electronic cockpit display was showing the wrong date !
Flying finished early so another hour or so at the truly fantastic museum, I've been to a lot of air museum, nothing quite like this, USA at its very best (and biggest !)
I have been to all except one JWM (Israel) and flown at most but this event seems to have the best and most cordial and friendly atmosphere we all had a ball last night and the final dinner will be under the wings in the museum. Lots of outdoor parties planned for tonight as the winners are virtually certain and the titeles have been wrested from the Germans at last !
I spent quite some time today with Roger Shipley (IC) and Lance Campbell (CD) to express our gratitude for amost enjoyable event where we have seen the bar raised in jet modelling to the stratosphere.
I leave it to others to post photos as my tiny laptop does not have photo processing software.
Seems the enxt JWM will be in Switzerland, final decison at tonights IJMC meeting.
Regards,
David.
Plums , give your pathetic whingeing and criticisms a miss, mate. You have no idea of the HUGE effort which so many people have made to make this event the sucess it is. They have given freely of their time, unpaid, and their precious holidays to make the JWM possible. I have spoken to many people here, renewed old friendships, made new ones and seen some fantastic models and superb flying, and I will propose a vote of sincerest thanks to them at the final dinner.
I am here you're not so you have NO idea of just how things are, so give it a miss, PLEASE.

RE: US JET WORLD MASTERS
I took these pictures at Jet Power last year of Philip's Fouga, what's interesting is that the wings and tails are built up and I can say to a very high standard of accuracy. It is a real pleasure to see this type of modeling, I do hope that Philip wins his class.

Here is something to wet your whistle with

They have been first in space , first man in space, first woman in space , first to crash something on the moon, now look at this the first near perfect rc model ever built , brought to America to win on American soil. Com on USA let's get it together now! Call the president the governors , congressman , somebody , anybody we need support for the next one!!! This proves we need to unite as one and get serious. I love my country and I love winning as you can tell.
This plane has raised the bar so far high that if you don't come ready to throw down, you will not win STATIC.
Ok, back to the show now.

RE: US JET WORLD MASTERS
Thank you for your kind comment.
Probably no report tomorrow as rain is forecast so we willl be off to the Museum to start the Traplet video of it. It was quite chilling to see a real Little Boy and Fat Boy T9 (the warheads have been removed it says on a sign !) in front of the original B29, Bockscar. which dropped A bomb #2 on Nagasaki.
I think one of the great values of this wonderful museum is that even if one has little interest in aircraft, the way the Museum has coonected the aircraft with major world events, is highly educational, making it a true national asset, Got to do Pensacola now !
Another amazing fact gleaned from the displays
The B2 had only ONE pilot plus a mission commander BUT did 30 hour sorties with multiple refuellings . Makes civil flight time limitations look a bit soft !
Weve just had dinner with Scott Stoffer (SKS video) and he confirms he has filmed EVERY flight so far, no mean task with a 16 pound ca.mera on his shoulder in this heat, well done Scott and Mal, our Traplet camerman who is doingf a similar sterling job.
Discussion round the traps this afternoon was how long will it take before we get a Chinese kit for a YAK 130, it really has all the attributes needed for a great flying model., we shall see !

I attended the JWM on Sat. 7-30 and was able to participate in the open flying with my BVM Bobcat XL. I was fortunate enough to get 4 flights and Just wanted to thank Jim and Dewey and everyone else involved in making this event happen. Looking forward to seeing everybody at future events.
Thanks again,

RE: US JET WORLD MASTERS
The Yak-130 is a superb example of craftsmanship and engineering. I come from an aviation maintenance background in the USAF (B-52H's and B-2A Stealth Bombers) and I tend to notice the little things that the average modeler may not, but I didn't notice until watching the video, the rotating beacon light! It's not just simply a flashing LED like so many use and try to pass it for authentic, but a lamp with a rotating reflector! Gives a whole new meaning to 'Attention To Detail'.
David - The Flight Crews at Whiteman AFB, MO, where the B-2's are stationed, spent time doing sleep studies in the B-2 Simulator to determine how best to fly long missions from here in the US to any target location around the world with just the Pilot and Mission Commander. At one time they had set a record for (simulated) flight time by one crew. The aircraft was designed with a third seat location, but wasn't purchased by the Air Force with the third seat. This area was just suitable for a sleeping cot for 'Power' naps by one of the two crew members until reaching the target zone. How do I know? I was a B-2A Crew Chief from April '93 to Feb '98 .
