Asked this question in the radio section and no response so I thought I'd try here.
I recently purchased 4 Spektrum 6020 surface Servos. I mistakenly thought I was getting the ones for air. As I look at the specifications, I can't see any difference. My only thought is that the servo wire is shorter on the ground servo than on the air. Is this true or are there other differences?

I've just checked the specs for you.
The air version is designated A6020, 146oz as opposed to your 100oz, .19 sec, yours .14.
Apart from that on specs they appear to be identical so you are good to go!

With all due respect, Gary you may have been comparing the S6020 to the A6010? Both the A6020 and S6020 offer 146 oz-in of torque @ 6V. The main difference I have seen between Air and Surface servos apart from the shorter lead is the surface servos usually have an extra o-ring on the output shaft along with small o-rings on the case screws as to keep dust and water out. Albeit, I cannot confirm that is the case here.

I stand corrected but blame Horizon UK for that.
Their new quarterly trade mag states 100oz for the S6020 and 146oz for the A6020.
However, at the bottom of the specs I just noticed that both are rated at 10.5kg.
Obviously a mistake in the mag, my apologies.

Thanks guys - I appreciate the comments. The shorter servo lead poses no problem. Looks as if I'm fine to use them for acft. They are an impressive servo for a great price.

They should be good Beave, made by Savox who make the Align servo's, I personally use standard Spektrum DS821's on all my warbirds and everything except elevator on 80 size jets with great results also.
I am trying Savox 12kg servo's on an Elan tail and they also work really well.

We did a load of testing on the Savox (Spektrum) servos last year inc a 2 day running test. They are not as good as the JR servos, but are very good for the cost and better than any Hitec I've tested. The 10.5kg servo is a std motor, not coreless so does not start and stop with the same crispness.
One of my friends has been using these in a Flash (as a test dummy!) and they continue to work fine. The A6030's are in a GJC L-39 and CARF Hawk with the same guy and still being tested, so far so good.

Just an FYI,
The SPektrum 821's are made by JR and are a direct example ofth e JR 821.
The latest Spektrum servos are not made by JR as stated. Their centering is very much on comparison to the Hitec line up of digital servos. OVerall they are nice servos for the price.

Yes, in England the Spektrum 821 is a JR 589.
We were stating the new servos are made by Savox, with the prefered JR spline. I find them much better than Hitec on centering...
They are a good budget range of servos.

Dave, am I correct in assuming that the Savox you are trying out are using JR arms then or the arms that come with the servo?
BTW the JT valves we were talking about recently seem to have settled down and are working fine now. I think you were right about the Tx being too close to the valves on power up! Many thanks for your advice,

Savox servos use a Futaba spline. So we have Futaba ali arms or use Dubro HD Futaba arms.
The Spektrum versions have a different top and JR spline, so any JR arm. I don't like either the Savox or Spektrum arm material which is brittle.

Since we're on the topic of Spektrum servos, has anyone tried the the H5000 mini? I'm curious whether it's a good alternative for smaller airframes. The only thing of concern is its nylon geartrain.

I am building a Sebart Wind to compete with (not able to go full 2M yet) and it will be electric. I looked at digital servos, and the Spektrum seemed like a great value. I used the A6010 for the ailerons and they seem fine. However, I bought a 6020 for the rudder, and there is a lot of slop at center. There is about a 1-2 degree "clunk" of slop.
Is this because of the titanium gear, or did I get a bad servo? The A6010s do NOT have any slop. I am going to contact HH on this, and may end up replacing the A6020. Anyone have an idea why there is so much slop?

Yes this was a bad servo. I got three others from the LHS and no slop. Called HH support and they will take it back and give me a new one. I am glad it is just this one, as I really think the Spektrum servo is a great value.
