Hello Zivo,
I am glad you mentioned that you will be strengthening the elevator shaft assembly area. This point has been covered before.
For any one else who is upgrading, please reinforce the elevator shaft assembly area. Mine has been flawless for the last 27 flights and counting.
Great job Zivo, keep it up and show how you figured out the moving parts.
Kevin

Hi Guys
Upgraded landing gear set from FEJ - I sent the original LG to the factory after I noticed they have an upgrade with a self locking mechanism and upgraded pistons. Did not think twice.
The landing gear upgrade is a must. The pistons are HD, works with 4mm tubing. I pressure tested the system and it was flawless. Holds pressure without any issue. plus the locking mechanism works great as well. No need for the extra valve that was needed with the original LG.
Cheers,
Zivo

I sent the gear to the FEJ factory in china. I contacted James first and got his approval and then sent it to an adress he gave me.
The new gear works great, looks like a winner LG.

Nick,
Matrix Manufacturing has a GREAT aftermarket and VERY scale operating gear for this plane too. I have worked with Matrix and had the prototype in my F-16 and it works flawlessly from the start. It is basically a drop in set up with exact screw allignment to the formers. The Nose Gear has justa little bit of work since it a true direct drive steering.
Good luck!

On we go:
First - the air brake shells are glued and in place, aligned to the elevators. I also used some grease on the main shaft to prevent glue from sticking to it. Used Hysol to glued it in place. Before I closed the hatch made sure to fill any gap and give more strength to the elevator shaft.
Well the airbrake is in place and will be cured by morning.
As for the servos that will operate them - 2 X Hobbico CS-170 - same as the 7995 servos, titanium gears, super torque. Great servo I have it in all my jets with no issues.

Glued the nose structure. Before I did so I covered teh ply formers with carbon layer, glassed. It is super strong now, and also gives it a nice shiney carbon look...
The nose cone was aligned and in place with no issues.
One more thing: I did another layer of gray paint for the interior, and thats done.

A quick word about the medical devices and model airplanes build: I have found that some medical devices such as these long clams (also known as Endo Clinches) are super helpfull when it comes to the need to pull something from the fuse or wing, when there is no other way to get it, or for example to pull a servo extension through tight places....
Well luckily enough I work in the medical field and whenever a device gets thrown from the OR, It comes to me and starts its second career... as a building device...

And one last thing for tonight - Introducing my stinky little friend - a snake, also known as "popcorn" ... belongs to my son and keeps me company for these late night hours.
He is quiet, does not eat much, and very friendly...
Very tired, will make more significant progress tomorrow.
Cheers,
Zivo

I had a dificult night with the airbrake scale covers. I modified the whole system to have less moving parts and eventualy it came OK, I am happy.
Dan - this is my version to the bottom tear drop covers, no need for the robart-spring operated cover. Tell me what you think.
I spent too many hours on this part, but I guess it will be worth it.
The wood parts I made already covered in primer , tomorrow I will sand and prepare for paint.

Final thing about the airbrake is the pivot covers. this was rather easy, and adds so much to the overall scale look.
Good night,

The overall look and fit seems to be more than adequate. I like your idea of No moving parts. I think I'll modify the cover parts to do it your way. I'll make some nice molded covers and the extension front piece instead of the moving hinged covers
Nice job.

Little progress today:
I painted the gear doors interior to look more scale rather than the white they come with.
I also painted the wood ring of the tail section in the tail cone in gray primer. Thsi part will accept the afterburner lighting ring in it.
After that I installed the gear in place and tested it - PERFECT.
Nose gear done including steering - HS7955 on the nose. Gonna use a GY401 gyro on it too.
Tommorrow I will do the tail section servos install including the airbrake servos and testing.
Good nacht.

I like the grey primer for the interior!!!
i am thinking to copy this idea for my agressor too.
today i have send the gear to james - hope to get it back soon.
because i get my AMT-OLYMPUS-HP. that will be the 23 to 24kilo burner for this huge model. i bought that turbine used with 4 hours on the clock and will change it to kerostart.
i let you know how it will work.

today I finished witht he lighting system - did the fin illumination lights. I like this one the most. the effect is awsome.
Did a ply housing for the led, painted it black, and glued inside the fuse, with the transparent lens on top. The led has an angle that reflects the light directly on the fin. Without this angle it would just light the sky and not the fin...
Turned off the lights on the room, and this is how it looks...

Tail cone adjustments and afterburner ring:
Since I bought the TAM pipe, which is a little smaller in diameter, I had to make a new ring to secure it and glue on thop of the original one.
The D4S AB ring is robust. I have not tested it yet, but will do so tomorrow. I glued 5mm carbon spacers on the bottom of the ring to lift the components from the wood ring.
The wood ring will be painted next in gray primer as well.
I also intend to cut the electrical cord and weld detachable tips so I can remove the cone alone for maintenance moer easily.
