Powerbox unit is the obvious choice for this model. Lots of long leads, lots of servos. The PB unit will boost signal in additional to twin batteries and suppression.

Price is good for package and quality. Traders from home and direct imports have, and are causing this hobby to free fall. When there is no professional support everyone will cry. I could sell it at a false price like the 'back yarders' if I didn't pay near £1000 a month rates and building rent and costs on top of that. People think that these impossibly false low prices are good, they are not. If the government wasn't blinkered to the goings on it would be different. This week has left a real bad taste and I have a decision to make...

Wait until you get no turbine back up, the cheap airframes you all covert will be pointless...

Dave I couldn't agree more with your points regarding taxation , don't talk to me about the government and councils!, and I certainly would not like to be running a business in the UK these days. The fact is times are getting very tough for many of us I for instance am earning less than I was 12 years ago and it is cutting deep to say the least. Thus my remark was not aimed at over pricing just that it is out of my league for the foreseeable and I'm sure that is the case for many others in our part of the world. But I live in hope and if things pick up you will be getting a call re a blood sucker one!

Sorry, I wasn't thinking that, problem is this hobby has been surviving on prices that are not possible in this country, many of the people that started this process are now paying the ultimate price and finding out that turn over is not king. Its now reached a point that people believe these stupid low discounted prices are what things should be sold for, they are not and a "proper" business run as a business and not as a hobby side line cannot survive with the stupid low margins, that people put on even brand new products. The hobby has been falsely "surviving" on the excess and spending on many items not really needed or desired, now the trade are getting pay back as the second hand market is full of this excess being moved on and the dealers that chose to make tiny amount are now being put out of business by their own stupidity. The hobby is changing and not for the good, something that I and many others have enjoyed for years will have to change so much if it is to survive, that many will chose to leave it and overall everyone is the loser.

Bottom line is that we're talking entertainment items here...not exactly a priority in the grand scheme of things. On your side of the fence, it's a whole different matter - it's putting food on the table and we've spoken about the various methods used by traders in the past and what may or may not happen, and the morality behind it. BUT, it seems to me that an assumption is being made here Dave that the core product price cannot be dropped. Given that everybody down the chain suffers if Mr Modeller decides to stop playing toy jets, doesn't it make sense for everybody in that chain to take a bit of the pain...why is it just the consumer? The attitude of 'take it or leave it' that monopolies like the utilities providers have, cannot prevail in the modelling industry...it's easy for people to leave it...then no-one wins.

Not wishing to swing this good thread off topic I will be brief. I have empathy with you Dave as it must be very tough for you at the moment and you are correct in what you say regarding merchandising methods of others which must be most irritating. But also Dick makes a strong point as did I that there is so much less money out there to go around, I work in what is deemed to be a luxury market and we have been feeling it badly for about four years now and no end in sight. We have had to cut our cloth very prudently in order to survive let alone expand and it's perhaps the jet model industry will have to do the same as currently many are pricing themselves out of the game. I am looking towards Jetpower to see how the market is reacting to the downturn.

I'm sorry, but you are missing the point and as far as retail business goes no idea. Its not a hobby, its a business. Hobby to you. Same way as Motor sport, full size flying, even golf is. It is NOT possible to reduce prices, the whole mates and its for fun thing has messed things up. Yes, people have less money, well businesses are suffering at costs more than individuals, and if they don't make money, they go. Its happening and about to happen big time.
People still have money, just not the excess and some chose to prioritise spending, so back to where we started:-people chose not to buy a quality product and at a very low price...yep LOW. Look at BVM and AW models, an AW Cougar is 40% more than a Derjet one and you have to build it, comes with less accessories etc...people still buy them. Its not possible to reduce prices, simple. If you balance lower price-increased sales, with our hobby it does not pay.You end up with more stuff out there that needs more help and back up and that costs. Posting parts around the country offering back up costs a fortune and there is any profit gone...because it was too small. Its like idiots in this hobby who pay for trade space, pay to take stock to shows, work all weekend and discount the already discounted prices to "buy" custom-fools
Anyway, this thread was about a brilliant model, guess people will miss out because its not handled by one of the back yarders. I'm off to test fly some models for people that did not buy them from me :rolleyes:

I fellow flier loaned me a DVD entitled "Flying the De Havilland Vampire" which I found quite interesting. It is 52 minutes in length and covers a preflight walkaround, cockpit check, solo aerobatics and formation flying of a restored ex-Swiss Vamp. Belive it was filmed in NZ and also includes details on the Goblin engine. Highly recommended for any Vampire enthusiast and is available from : www.historicaviation.com. You'll have to search the videos segment of their website. The vid was produced by: classiccockpits.com but their site shows it "out of stock".
Dave, I really appreciate your "Jet Chatter" column in RCJI and the wealth of jet information provided, keep up the great work.
