Congratulations Dave. . .job well done.

I am off to the Joe Nall week event. Will return on Monday after the event and continue work on my "blood sucker" as it has been aptly named by Mr. Hatcher. I suspect he will continue some work in my absence.

Again, great job with a great aeroplane !

Kind regards,
Eric

Hello Dave,

Congratulation for your flights, very nice pictures too :D
I am sorry but I did not understood what was wrong with your landing gear ? Could you explain again ?

About power, can you say now that the P100 RX would be enough for this plane ?

Again, congratulation !!

Jean-Philippe;)

Eric and JP

Thank you. I have some more detail to add, more horns and wheel wells to paint.

JP yes P-100RX power (or any 85-110N turbine) will be perfect.

Gear,
Generally retract systems need a little free play to operate, if this is taken away the air cylinder needs to pull much harder to move the slide bar and operate the gear. On the right leg the wheel touched the wing skin removing this free play. (I found this by opening the outer doors when the gear was up and trying to turn the wheels, one was free, one was really tight.) Packing the retract unit down gave back this free play. Now it works perfectly.

Regards

Dave

Thank you Dave.

To conclude : for a reliable landing gear on the vampire we need to do 2 improvements.
One on the mechanics itself and one on the wing skin.

Thank you
Jean-Philippe ;)

RE: DerJet DH Vampire build thread-

Dave, if you have time, could we have a detailed picture of what you did on the retracts to obtain the additionnal free play ?

Thank you
Jean-Philippe

JP.

Model not here, its in the office and I'm on a new project!
But simply put plywood under the retract mounts. One side did not need it. With such a long leg the angle of the retract unit mount is critical, this one was fractionally out. When you buy yours it will probably be perfect!

No, you may not have to do these modifications, you just need to check. This is true on many aircraft where the wing is thin.

Christian, as soon as someone with a camera is available!

RE: DerJet DH Vampire build thread-

The issue Dave is describing about the tire hitting the top wing skin happened on me also. What I did is simply shim the offending retract plate so the tire would spin free when the gear is in the up position. The final shimming of the retract unit needs to also take in to account the mounting of the gear door. I was able to shim the retract unit such as I do not have any shims between the lower mounting of the gear door and the landing gear strut while setting the door fit, this then has the tire spaced clear of the upper wing skin. Hope this helps, though I know pictures would help, try to take some in the AM.

RE: DerJet DH Vampire build thread-

Jim

I have one std 3mm washer under each lower mounting, this clears the C clip on the lower A link pin. I'm annoyed at myself for the problem on the first flight as one side had the one washer and the other required three-which should have started the bells ringing! Now both have 1 washer.
Gear works great at 85psi with a UP3 valve. Brakes at 60psi!!

Oh! :(
Lock out or total loss of control? ie Tx/Rx/Battery failure?

I was flying my Vampire at a show today and I like it more and more

RE: DerJet DH Vampire build thread-

first fligth day with edf foam model no problem (normally i test the radio set with cheap model before flight session)
first flight day vampire 2 fail safe on flight...(i'm uploading the video) but no problem to land
after land with aircraft on box at the same time my radio tx and vampire and same radio of my friend and his model mig 29 edf
fail safe with tx near 1mt to model with turbine running...( rx temperature cold)
spektrum fligh log a=650 b=470 c=340 d=478 f=0043 h=0005 v=5,9
[link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bvNBG8GgsM[/link]

another flight test the tx with edf model ..no problem

i test the ar12000 in the vampire with reduced module tx power at 100m over distance
a=145 b=50 c=32 d=15 f=000 h=000 v=5,9

similar value with turbine running and tx reduced module tx power at 100mt distance

then 5th and final fligt all ok ... but near at the end flight-> fail safe..model locked then unlocked 2-3 times and crash (soon video)
the rx was found "on" a=340 b=110 c=30 d=15 f=9999 h=43 v=5,9

my tx is mx-22 with 12 ch spektrum and ar12000 2 lipo pack s2 2200 30c emcotec dpsi rv

then is the tx or rx??? with this radio tx i flight with mig-15, sabre, f84g , texan ...without any fail safe problem
previous n.3 flight with vampire all A B C D was under 30 fades any satellite

Have you checked the module fit in the Tx? Is it the one piece module (new better fitting case)
Try checking and touch module to see contact is always good.

Dave

i did this check before flight and ZERO signal loss or fades
the module is one piece case

One piece modules are normally OK. Sorry, you will have to search a cause.

More shots from Saturdays flight at the Blackbushe show-cameraman Colin G

Last one shows a full flap and full airbrake pass, 3/4 power needed in the 9-10knot wind!!

Work is progressing on Eric's "Blood Sucker". I have all the wiring and plumbing done I can do to this point.
I am waiting on the Engine,Fuel Pump, and Smoke pump to Finnish up the plane. Here are a few photos of stuff I have done while waiting on parts.

maybe Li-po pack in the tx stressed the spektrum module??

Oh, there are componets in our Tx's that have a threshold of 12.6v..maybe
