Look like Don is doing another "Rabbit in the Hat" trick on this build. Man he is fast! Kevin, I can't wait to see the final result. Don you are fastest "Draw in the West".

Kevin,
Brian did his with the Tam inlets for turbine use, really made it look good, and probably added a few MPH with the smaller inlets.

they are made specifically for the Starfire when running a turbine.

YUK!

The plane looks like a whale's you-know-what with those! :D No, the huge inlet is half the charm of that bird, and the smaller ones don't add an iota of speed that I've seen...

My last one was 200 on radar. In US can't go any faster. So I guess I will stay with stock set up.

Man Kevin, you weren't kidding about starting one soon. Is Don going to do a new 1 piece motor mount for your 80? Me and Shaun will just have to disagree on intakes, although i'm right:D. Don't worry though, the 18 will have the stock intakes :).

I guess I am not sure what a one piece mount is?

edgeflyer 02-14-2012 09:32 PM

RE: Yellow Starfire Build

The 80 mounting holes are a smaller spread than the duct fan mounting rails that come with it. I didn't feel comfortable with the lack of "meat" arround the mounting bolts. I added rails to mine so the turbine would have something to mount to. I don't like having to add on rails, although they're structuraly sound, they add weight and i'd feel more comfortable with it one piece of wood.

RE: Yellow Starfire Build

Will be designing rails that work from scratch. Already measured the engine and will make bulkheads when receive the plug in spars that were left out of original shipment.

Using the Yellow retracts for struts with robart 3/8 inch struts and glennis wheels and brakes. Using yellow tanks with one more tank for between the inlet duct. Measuring for size.
