The stock set up is really good. Great price. Well balanced impeller. IMO 8s adds too much weight. Spend the extra on decent cells...

Hi,

Is this a hopped-up system in here or the stock one?

Dave,

What servos are you using? I've got HS-85's and they jitter a lot...

Really? I think a Mig 17 would be a nice break from the norm. There a a lot of cool demo schemes too!

NOT Hitec...:) Boat servos ;) Really not a fan...and the small ones are worst!
It has Spektrum 5010 on the elevator and 4020 on everything else. The Elevator needs a decent servo.

Thanks.

I'm not to familiar with those servos at all. I've got a good servo on the stab, but I don't like the jittering. It's giving me the jitters...

Ha!

Yep! LOL, Grand Bush (my cousin) was in Die Hard and had that line. Later my uncle, Art Evans, was in Die Hard 2. No cool quotes from him, though...

Hey,

Anyone know what kind of flight times are expected from a 6S 5000 pack with this stock setup?

RE: E-Flite F-4 Phantom

Have my timer set for 4 minutes. Will easily go 4 minutes at full throttle. I have been putting 2500-3000mah back in after 4 minutes of normal flying, not all full throttle but most of it. :D

Shaun,
I have my timer set to 4:30 with the stock setup, 5000 6S packs. I'm not full throttle the entire time but still flying aggressively. Batteries are about perfect discharge amount on landing.

I have about a dozen flights on mine so far. The plane is not a dog, but being scale, not as fast at my Habu-32 on the same setup. I get similar results to the video, around 115mph on level passes. I have done some divepasses, but I guess not from as high as the one in the video. I don't think I have come close to 149mph.

We will be doing a maiden on Tim's F4 tomorrow morning at the Sea World field around 10:00am. You and John are welcome to come down if you want to see one fly.

John, I have to agree with Shaun, this is a very well done model. David and the whole HH team can be proud of this one. I do hope there are more in this line comming out. I have both the Habu-32, and the F4, and am happy with both. I will absolutely buy the next one whatever model it is.

I just finished the wings on mine....with everything installed. I had to push it in the corner with the Hawk incident. I don't know a ton about electrics and have a question. I have the stock setup..recommended fan, motor, controller. My other models and chargers are set up with deans Ultra Connectors. Can these connectors stand up to the stock setup?
Thanks!
Dom

Dom the deans will handle the current perfectly. Hang in there. If you need any help with edf stuff let me know.

Nope. David Payne did all of the work on this one. I provided a few books and pictures for him and that was it. This bird flies like a normal Phantom. You will like it Shaun.
How you doin' John?? Hey I'm gonna be doing a P-20 in this little beauty. Should be a hoot :D

RE: E-Flite F-4 Phantom

Servos are basically 3kg digitals on everything except the tailplane which is 4.6kg.
Time will depend on cells also. I have some UK Optipower 30c cells I have been using and I have my timer set for 5 1/2 minutes. This is power on rolling for take off and I start to think about landing at 5 min when a 30sec warning goes. I fly mixed fast/slow stuff and I'm off the power when I don't need it! Every pilot is different, so best to set a timer low, say 4 1/2 mins and fly to that exactly a few time and note what you are putting back in. Then increase it to 4 3/4 etc until you are using around 4200mAh on a 5000 pack. That's about as far as you want to go. With higher draw electric flight you want to plan your flights, avoid using full power in the last 30secs and if you run long for some reason don't taxi back, especially on grass!

I have some Thunderpower 65c packs to try next as TP have always been my favourite packs.

Like Bob says Deans are fine for this sort of Current draw.

RE: E-Flite F-4 Phantom

I know that expected performance is relative. The habu 32 I had on the stock power system is not that fast, the video is misleading. Another guy at my club has one too and they fly the same in my area.I fly larger EDF so to me it was slow. I bought into the hype and expected more. It CAN fly fast if you want to upgrade but the cost gets up there.

Its a small jet so it gets small in the videos. I have a twin 70mm HET A-10 on 4sthat blows the habu 32 away. Perhaps that is why I dont think much of it, the a-10 is supposed to be a draggy pig. Also flat and level it barely beats the foamy habu on 5s. It is faster, but not by much, and needs to dive steeply to pull away.

Keep in mind this is in my area at my altitude all on flightmax cells. I have e-flite lipos in 4s and they do not performe better, I dont know about the 6 cell though. its my opinion the habu 32 is slow on the stock system and you can get much more for your money on a 90 mm edf. The Habu 32 quality is top notch though! I would expect the same from the f-4, top notch quality.

The only thing I wanted to mention that is annoying, atleast on the habu and it appears to be on the phantom, is the low tail. Our runway is rough, and I can grease landings and still end up bouncing a lot because if the nose hits a bump, the tail then hits the ground, and it gets into a hasty bouncing cycle off the nose, off the tail.

I had about 100 flights on my habu before I sold it due to boredom. I switched over to a HET l-39 on 10s and never looked back. Ther is no comparison.

Ok sorry to hijack the thread, I was complaining about stock power system, which looks to be the same on the f-4.

ya man....that would be a cool jet. Last time I seen one of those up close was at Spartan in Tulsa back in 1981.(They had two)

John.... looks like you ,Horizon and the boys have your work cut out.Lot's of cool jets you guy's can offer us jet junkies.Instead of one a year maybe two to keep us all happy LOL ;)

RE: E-Flite F-4 Phantom

Two a year would make David Payne loose all of his sanity.

From all of our readings here the Habu 32 is a solid 120 mph model in level flight. The Habu cannot leave the F-4 in a flat out run. Both are so evenly matched it is crazy.

90mm setups deliver a higher speed envelope and of course a higher price point. Key points are trying to deliver a quality performing, flying, adn looking model in a $1000 arena for the complete package. I think it is pretty sweet for what you get. All will not be happy, but I believe most will be.

Spence, the P-20 version will be sweet!!!
