RE: JetCat 180rx
Mark, it has the turbine wheel and combustion chamber Dave mentioned above. I'm a rep and Bob got one to run and then sent it to me. No magic, just a few updates already mentioned above.

RE: JetCat 180rx
Bob is gonna update several 180's sold here in the US. Contact your local rep or dealer about yours. I don't know what the story is on any of the 180's sold outside the US. Might be a few serial #'s affected, really don't know.

RE: JetCat 180rx
I have 4 hrs on my P180RX and running perfect. not a fart or hiccup.
Been really happy with mine. I had another in my Shockwave that was screaming as well til it met its dimise in Kentucky from a mid air. It purred like a cat too! I heard there was an update. Scott |

No magic, just a few updates already mentioned above. OK thanks, so no real "first one out there...updated this and that etc"? Just a recently supplied bog standard P180RX from Jetcat without the potential casting issue that, as you say, only affected a few serial numbers. Thanks for clarifying. Fortunately, my engines are not affected by the casting issue. I'm with Scott - I have around 3.5hrs on one of mine with no issues at all. Started every time and run perfectly until shut down. RE: JetCat 180rx
Yep...no magic, just the latest version that will be shipping soon.

RE: JetCat 180rx
i have had one of the first p180rx to hit usa..i have about 4 hours or so on mine..not a failed start or hickup.. fast throttle response and no flameouts.. i was talking to bob wilcox and he was telling me the concerns were on the 100 rx and 180rx not the 140s...he advised me to send it in so why risk anything bad..i boxed it ...i am a jetcat guy through and through. i have no problems sending in for service...its and engine..these things happen...

RE: JetCat 180rx
I got my 180rx back and had 2 awesome flights on my Skymaster 1/6 F-16 on Sunday. Unfortunately on flight #3, I had a flame out. GSU says "low RPM". Plane is unharmed, but I'm very annoyed since the plane has been out of service since March due to engine issues. I am hoping it's me and not the engine. I'm stripping down the fuel system this week to see if I'm getting air somewhere.
|
RE: JetCat 180rx
hello there... this is interesting... i did read people were getting low rpm readings on the 140rx due to wrong battery voltage and or low pump voltage ..jetcat does recomend with these new ecus that we use 9.9 lifo po...i have never had a failed start or glitch with mine...maybe call bob at jetcat usa ..i am positve he will get you straight...pat....
|
RE: JetCat 180rx
I am using the 9.9v battery that is supplied with the 180. I also have a few 140rx engines and they've been flawless.

RE: JetCat 180rx
So what is the true thrust on the 180rx? it says "40+" on the website. Dantley, after reading that you didn't get unlimited vertical with the P200 in the Mig, I'm getting nervous...
|
RE: JetCat 180rx
Mike, I wasn't getting unlimited vertical because the pipe reduces the thrust dramatically. My last F-16 had a p-200 and it was unlimited. The 180 in my current F-16 feels unlimited.

RE: JetCat 180rx
did you figure anything out on your 180 yet?

RE: JetCat 180rx
I'm going to assume I had an air leak. After pulling out the tanks I noticed that one of my rubber stoppers was brittle and could be letting in air. I'm going to blame myself and not the engine for now. I am replacing the stoppers and rebuilding the tanks. Hopefully this will lead to many happy flights with the engine.
Because I am in a video posting mood this week, here's the flame out flight. The commotion at the end was due to a buddy about to taxi out as my plane was dead stick. |
RE: JetCat 180rx
Hey Dantley, nice to see it on video! Good thing the brakes on my Rafale worked after Raf "kindly requested" me to abort my taking the runway :). looking at the timing of things, it could have been quite a mess... [:@]

RE: JetCat 180rx
Guys, just an update on the one I have been flying. It now has about 7 hrs and about 48 runs on it and it has been absolutely perfect. Not a singe hiccup, missed start, nothing....it just runs. Been torturing an Ultra Flash with it:D.
Running mine with a 2s 4300 LiMg for what that's worth. It appears Jet Cat Germany has finally got the supply issue of parts from their contractors figured out, which should allow a more consistent delivery of 180's. I'll be purchasing #2 and #3 in the next few moths for my 2 scale birds. Dantley, sounds like its a fuel system issue. If you are using the stock fuel tank stoppers, they're crap. Toss them and use a red Dubro stopper. Also make sure to tear the system apart and clean everything. Those black stoppers break down and crumble, leaving pieces of stopper everywhere in the fuel system. Keep us posted. I would die to have that much pavement to land on. We have a "generous" 650' with densitity altitudes over 9000'. [:@] |
RE: JetCat 180rx
thats got to be one fast ultra flash....:D....the only issue i had this summer with the 180rx was when it was so hot and humid i had to lower the spool time to normal...that was only for the hottest and humid of days...other then that no issues if you can even call that an issue....love jetcat and wouldnt think of changing to another make...i think there just above all others in tech and reliabilty....great engine
|
RE: JetCat 180rx
Just an FYI for those interested, I am able to set the idle and high RPM both to FAST on my 180 and slam the throttle from a stabilized idle to full without an issue or acceleration issues whatsoever. No burping, coughing, or flames. Tested to 8400' density altitude so far.
|
RE: JetCat 180rx
Yes mine runs the same way....normal flying weather is fast fast....hamburg pa jets this year all us guys with the rx engines had to go in and set throttle response...didn't matter to me...I learned on a p70...doesn't get much worse then that...hahah.. glad you like your engine
|
RE: JetCat 180rx
I got some more flights on my 180rx today and no problems. Flameout seems to be fuel system related.
|
RE: JetCat 180rx
great to here:D...
