Next Video is up.
Will upload pictures tonight. |

Speckles installed https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...79ce7c27ea.jpg Servo cover painted to match the #5 https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...46b52d44a6.jpg |

Sanded down wing tip joint to get best fit. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...83689340ba.jpg Drilled and tapped the carbon rods for the tip tanks. Taped with 4-40 threads as they are more course than 3mm. Tip tanks won't be coming on and off as the Revoc bags have the tip tanks installed. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...3432ca2e0e.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...c3df506eba.jpg |

Some pictures of final brake line routing. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...5de167c3d9.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...c0ba0da81b.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...9b01278e3a.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...5a5198fc9f.jpg |
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...b03933759e.jpg
Wing connectors complete. I like to use the pin/female side of the connector on the wing so you can easily attached your receiver with a male connection and operate the different surfaces off the plane. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...6c882ae7c2.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...6ebcb3ca80.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...489d95c45d.jpg |
Video #9 is up. Wing install and Turbine install!
|
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...f94a85ec22.jpg
Kingtech 210 G4 Installed. Much easier to lay the fuse on it's side to have horizontal rails like a typical airframe https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...01a0b44af3.jpg Bottom rail had to be sanded down by about 1/2 inch to get turbine into proper position in pipe. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...15c2a0f231.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...c87a5f48e9.jpg One thing to note. The grumania pipe sheet/manual says to install the turbine exhaust cone 1/2 way in the orange bell. The Aviation Design manual mentions only inserting cone into the orange bell 20mm. I went with the 20mm mark as that's what is listed in the AD manual. Still have some movement with the turbine on the mount in both directions. |
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...c37d3d327b.jpg
Wing fastening is next. Installed wing tubes into airframe so equal distance on both sides of airframe. Marked tube with marker at fuselage. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...948b942830.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...e65eb23820.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...af4fe03232.jpg dowels inserted into main wing tube. Did one wing at a time. Install wing. Drill hole through tube. Remove wing. Install dowel, blind nut, glue on dowel and main wing bolt. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...f56fa864d7.jpg Wait till it all cures and trial fit wing. Used 4mm bolts in this area. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...2dbcd19918.jpg |
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...38bd67d7d1.jpg
Wasn't happy with the small amount of play at the rear part of the wing. So I added a fixing bolt. Access though the gear opening. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...ff4f587e8e.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...19c17a0fc2.jpg Carbon plate installed on wing side. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...ce9dcbdbe7.jpg Blind nut and 1/4 inch ply installed on interior side of fuse. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...a4bc5b6dde.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...41b5186af5.jpg |
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...ce7566bb09.jpg
Front tray painted and speckled. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...bf26598ad8.jpg Initial equipment layout figured out. Installing the fuel pump, UAT in this area ensures very short sections of fuel tubing from Tanks to UAT and from UAT to fuel pump. |
Good call on the wing bolt, I used this same method on my Rebel and also go through the wheel-well, it is quick, easy, and effective.
Get yourself one of these? I carry one for my Rebel and my Shockwave (they are different size bolts) in my field-box and it makes the job painless. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...da42c1f56c.png |

Fuselage side wiring harnesses made up. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...353bcecc83.jpg Grommet installed in Fuse https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...e62d2725d1.jpg Finished product. |
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...24d1bb52a8.jpg
Stock Hardware. Changed to High Flow setup. Because these tanks are run in Parallel the stock hardware should be fine but I planned on changing it from the start. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...6a9c06598f.jpg Stock sintered clunk. Did some testing on this unit and it doesn't really help with pulling liquid if only partially submerged. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...5ea9ff9431.jpg Instead of stock clunks, using CARF (Tillison) Felt clunks. Drilled out to a larger size. Stock on bottom and drilled on top. Also using larger mid tubes on the clunk lines. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...f8484622c4.jpg Finished clunks. In a parallel setup they need to be identical to try to pull fuel equally. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...3dbd85992f.jpg |
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...ee07900409.jpg
Prior to clunk installation, cleaned each tank out with 500ml of rubbing alcohol. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...df4c931eca.jpg Leak testing tanks. You can pressurize with air from your mouth and submerge in water or just pressurize and leave overnight. If they still hill in the morning they are good to go. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...ebad9dd1d8.jpg Finished fuel cells |
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...e01eb1508c.jpg
startup tray. Piece of thin ply with ABS simulated carbon glued together. Use spray glue on both sides. Let dry and stick together. works great! https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...8aa73db2ed.jpg Startup tray layout complete https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...457f5cdaf6.jpg Installed into the aircraft. |
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...d1109e7e84.jpg
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...761b58745e.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...af38acf26b.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...b2172689a8.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...8f31943dd3.jpg Added additional canopy hooks. Covered in great detail in last video. Measure 10 times and cut once! |
