WREN 44-Airframes???

Hi guys. I'm thinking about taking the plunge and ordering the Wren 44/L39 combination. My question is: What other airframes are out there that can also be used with the Wren 44? I do not want to have an engine for just one airframe.

Thanks

Alex

**By the way if anyone wants to sell the above mentioned combination PM me**

My PJP 1/8th BAe Hawk is well matched to the MW44. Just wish I had the money to go for one! 91 DF upgrade is the best for now :)

Although the kits are not being produced at this point in time.

let us know how you get on.

whats the price different between a mw44 and mw54? If its only a few hundred bucks why not just get the mw54 (more choices for you when you want to use it for something else..) just my 2cents...

I am all for extra thrust but, it is my understanding, from reading the Wren44/L39 thread, that the L39 flies much better with the 44, rather than the 54. It is about the weight.

RE: WREN 44-Airframes???

last post above me says it all, thrust is not everything, weight is a major player.

As for what models, well just about all the old 45 and 90 power models will take a Wren 44 perfectly.
'Keep it light fly it right!!'
It should be remembered what model weights were flown with the old JPX 8 lbs thrust but about 4lbs weight!
A 44 setup weighs about 1lb so you have a far better power to weight. I have seen 1/6th scale models flown weighing 14lbs on a jpx with 8lbs thrust!
The L39 /44 is a PERFECT setup
Other models to suit are in the pipeline.;)

RE: WREN 44-Airframes???

I would think that most airframes that were suited for a single .45 sized DF and some that used a .91 size, would be OK for the Wren 44.

I remember seeing a BVM F-86 flown on the Golden West FD3/64 and it was very impressive. That engine had similar performance to the Wren 44 but was bigger and heavier.

Will Whiteside just did a YA A-4 Skyhawk ARF with a Wren 44. It worked out very well.

Grey: Any hints as to what models are in the pipeline?

Yea, I saw Will's A-4. Very impressive.

Do you guys think the mw-44/simjet 700 could fly this thing ?

Its normaly for a 46-50 pusher prop........ but I would guess it easily could be fitted with a turbine....

Working on a stand off scale JHH F86 for the MW44. Larry Wolfe flew his 45 sized Fury with the 44 at Arizona Jets and found it to be a very nice combination. Check with him for other conversions in the works.

Heres a pic of my RD jets Bandito. It`s designed for electric but makes a brilliant model for the 44. I put another 4 flights on it last monday and I love it. Dismantles to fit in the box it came in and that box fits in my suit case so its great for taking abroad.

Jason, hows the low speed performance ?
can it take off from grass?
Any videoes of it ?

Where can it be bought?
the RD-jets website is down ?

Looks like there are more than a couple of airframes for the Wren 44. I think it is safe investment.

SJN: I'm with Marc, it is worth the try.
Jason: The Bandito looks really nice. Tell us a bit more about perfromance.

The low speed handling is fine, it has quite large flaps so when you put them down you need yo keep the power on which is great for a controled decent. Its was going really well the other Monday and im looking forward to flying it again soon.

Heres the thread if you want to take a look. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_13...tm.htm#1365418[link]http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_1365418/anchors_1365418/mpage_1/key_bandito%252Cwren/anchor/tm.htm#1365418[/link]

RE: WREN 44-Airframes???

I've got an aggressor 2 that needs a rebuild. I've been thinking of converting it to turbine for quite some time. The logical choice for a while seemed to be the wren 54/sim 1200 but probably would end up heavy and no where to put the fuel ect. The airframe is very light and I was wondering about the wren44/sim700 if it would make a good combo, probably would end up under 10lbs, not sure about getting off of grass though.

RE: WREN 44-Airframes???

Has anyone done a conversion on an old BVM Sportshark? It looks about the right size for a 54 or 44 size engine.

I understand Gary Mueller at Jettech make pipes for a number of the old BVM ducted fan jets. I was wondering if he has a conversion for that airplane?

Thanks.

Hal

Has any one considered the Marcel Lahaie kit from Canada. He makes a nice Mirage 2000 for ducted fan.He made me a strengthened
fuslage with carbon cloth for me to use my MW54 in it.This kit is a bargain,$350.00.It is more of a builders kit.Wings come sheeted,
verticle stab is glassed.Comes with drawing and some instructions.

Tell us more! Any pics of your W54 install? Would a W44 fly it?

I am sorry gentleman.Here is the linkis,[link]http://www.mirage2000-model.com/[/link.
I will try to post some pictures later for you.The jet is not an arf.But should be an easy build for those with experiance.I live in the United States. So the shipping was easy for me.Mr.Lahaie was quick to answer my emails. Will be buying another kit from him.Any more questions feel free to ask.I am just starting to lay out fuel tank placement and turbine.
