Havin' a blast. time will tell tomorrow but my guess is we will do good enough I will be able to return to work. Justin is doing great, as is Sung.

Bottom line is if you make it through 4 solid rounds of flying at Top Gun with the intense crosswinds, you have what it takes. Hey Sung, maybe tomorrow you can land in our county, may make it easier for th judges to score.:D[sm=bananahead.gif][sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

We are suposed to get some really crappy weather tomorrow. Thunderstorms in the PM.

There are talks of dropping the afternoon rounds tomorrow if the weather gets too ugly

Headed out the door of the hotel and the wind is blowing with full overcast. Ground is pretty wet. I'll take that 20 knot crosswind all day long.[sm=idea.gif][sm=biggrin.gif][sm=bananahead.gif]

I was there Saturday. Took about 50 pics of some beautiful birds. On Saturday, I know at least three went in. I only saw two of them. First the A-26, and then a Zero during the mock battle. The zero took off, rolled over and went in. From a distance, it looked like the wing suffered most of the damage. The A-26 seemed to just just be underpowered and tail heavy. He took off, made two passes, and on the third, he came across the line, went into the pits, and just dropped out of the air into the pits. Luckily no one was hurt, just shocked that a plane crashed so close. The crash I didn't see was, I think an F-86. Supposedly it went down way out there. There was almost nothing left. I did get picks of the A-26 wreckage. I feel bad for him. It was a nice looking plane. Here are a few pics. If you want, I'll post more later.

Didn't they make a rule about NOT maidening aircraft at the contest? That the plane needed at least six flights or something before entering?
Are you talking about maidening it on Thursday then flying in front of a crowd on Friday? Can you be more specific?

oops.....edit...thursday or friday....i ment tuesday and wedensday....sry....my bad...ihavent talked to him in a while, ffrom the last i heard, he was planning to try to fly before he left......from my common sence, there wasnt a day in the past 2 weeks where he couldve flown it.....so he probably flew it several times on tuesday and wedensday before he actually flew in competition..

Next Set. On the A-26, the fuse was probably unrepairable. The wing seemed to be in the best shape. The nacelles were messed up, and the wing was punctured in some spots, but he could probably repair it. As it fell to the ground, the only thing that slowed it down was one branch that broke off. The way it hit the ground (I think, I didn't see it hit the ground), it was nearly wings level. Thats why the wing seems to be in good shape. The best person to get a good idea of what happened and how damaged it is would be the pilot himself.

Redman,

Give us some details on the other cool jets there. Don't tell me your too busy flying contest flights...we all know that 100 flies itself!

I want to hear about:

Tommy Wood flying the 104?
The Shulman brothers and their F-86's?.
Hernandez and the Fury?
Gustavo and his Su-37?
Lim's Cougar?

C'mon give us some dirt (stir the pot a little) and tell us who the better pilot is between Bags and Sands!:D Can Nitsch be unseated?! Will the Cub win Team AGAIN?!

GIVE US THE DRAMA!!!!!

Joe

The F-100 your talking about, I think, had a chute on landing...Impressed everyone. The SU-37 looked like it flew beautifully. If the Sea Fury flew in the Mock Battle, it was a nice flying plane. I don't know whose F-86 went down, but it looks unrepairable. The 104 was a fast plane. It was one of my favorites. Next set. The ME 262 on the van is a kit for sale. Something like 700 dollars for a glass kit.
