hey joe the battery is fully charged.. its a 7.2 volt 4200nmh... the gas reg that i have is the same one mark sells and I turned it one click.. dont know if that is enough... Im Kinda nervous starting it again, it's like haven sex for the first time...lol j/k... when it said modeauto why did it stop working ?

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread

1 click sounds kind of low, did you notice the EGT temp when it cut out, or any other messages?

sKrUb_69 03-27-2010 09:28 PM

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread

egt was only like 176 cel.. thats what it said on the display after it shut down. the temp prob. is set right....

give the propane 1 more click

okay.. will try that tomorrow... to late to have another go around....

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread

Pure propane is a pain, I always use the power max and it lights off alot quicker, even on the superbee I used to have whenever I would use colemane propane it would take 3 to 5 attempts to get it going, but it always fired up the first time with the powermax. Other than that it sounds like everything else is doing good, you might also want to check to see if your fuel pump didnt get gummed up

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread

yeah i might do that in a lil bit... watching a movie with the kids right now...

another thing to check is that as it is first starting to wind up look at the monitor to make sure that the RPM is registering and going up. if its not your sensor maybe plugged in backwards. just a thought.

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread

Hey Chris,

Sounds like your rpm sensor is picking up some interference, move the rpm sensor wires as far away from the glow plug, pump and battery wires as possible, this often causes a lot of grief. Also twist the high current wires together like a small rope, this will help with any rpm sensing issues.

BJ,
Our diesel is pretty clean here, I do sometimes use it, it does smoke a little more than kero but not real bad. The phospor content in our diesel is not too bad and the anti-coking properties are good.

Cheers,
Smithy

Kewl - ta Smithy. That's what I was hoping to hear.

I don't want to clog up my internals with coke or do the metallurgy in via phosphorous or other nasties in the fuel etc.

I'm still finding Jet-A1 a bit difficult to source, so a workable alternative/blend for the test-bench would be good. I think my mate has scored 20lt of Jet fuel, so I'll be sure to give the Twins a decent 'cleansing' by burning a couple of litres of the good stuff :D

MNSI - apart from what Smithy has already suggested re the wiring etc (and that’s really important on a JJ), I find that an 80 Propane/20 Butane mix that you can buy from camping/hardware stores etc. lights-off easily and sustains spool-up really well. From memory, pure Propane didn't give me the best of starts.

I use an external can direct from the gas valve supplied. And I don't use the JJ solenoids - I found that the kero one wouldn't open sometimes, and the gas one wouldn't shut off. It may not have been the solenoids themselves, but the way I mounted them and held them down on the test-bench.

Either way, my kero goes straight from the pump to the filter (yes, I do use the supplied filter - better than clogging an injector nozzle), and my gas goes straight from the can shut-off valve to the inlet Festo.

Hope this helps,

BJ:)

98% of all non starting turbines I have came across are gas related

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread

The wiring causing RPM-sensor interference was my major problem.

As soon as I twitched all the high-current wires together and re-routed the RPM lead away from possible sources of noise, my started first time, every time.

BJ:)

PS - it would start the spool-up ok, pop the Propane off, and shut-down almost immediately. I took Smithy's advice and twitched all my high-current wires together - problem solved. You can sometimes see this happening - the RPM readings on the Monitor go all over the place, the FADEC gets confused, and it shuts down. Mine did it so quickly that I couldn't see the RPM going wild, so I just did the 'wire' thing, and it started straight away afterwards...

Yes I would agree BJ after seeing his picture (previous page), Chris twist the glowplug wires and starter wires in a braide (both individually) and do what BJ said, about keeping them separated, especially the pump wires.

Hey Joe,

I took apart the fuel pump, all is good on it. No gummy stuff. also I redid all the wireing, I braided all the fat power wires as you can see
here in the pic. going to start her up later, going to town with wife and kids. but will keep checking the forum via cell phone... chris

also the rpm sensor wire is far away from any main power source wires..

mnsi 03-28-2010 10:23 AM

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread

Hey Chris, try to move the RPM sensor wire completely away from the other wires as far as possible, you can also wrap it up with some aluminum foil that will shield it.

okay Joe, I rest the sub menus back to factory... Funny thing is I only changed one of them
which was the 017. Which is the starter power during ingition. I had it at 055 and it suppose to be at 039... Hope that was
the issue.. But will call you when I fire her up later... Chris

That looks heaps better, mate.

Let us know if she starts. Good Luck! :D

Well I was on the phone with Chris and the plug was shorted out so he fixed the plug and she fired up the first time, went up to 157,000 steady with no problems and back down to a smooth idle. It sounded really good except for the girly shrieks Chris was emitting (ROTF LMAO) just kidding bro.:D

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread

Ah... the old "shorted plug to the Turbine" trick... that's the second time I've fallen for it this week.... LoL

Didn't we cover that a couple of pages back? And consider yourself lucky that all that happened was that it wouldn't start. The Regal FADECS tend to blow a 'mosfet' internally if you do this, and it's time for a new FADEC, or some running repairs via a soldering iron. I suspect other FADECS probably behave similarly to a shorted glow-lead.

But she's up and running now - so you must be a happy boy :D

BJ:)

PS - lmao @ 'the girly shrieks'... too funny
