I just got my first turbine and i love it. :p
It’s a Joe jet 1400 All up it cost me $2080 AUS about 1550 US That included the NEW jj1400 with bigger intake and 12 bladed compresser The upgraded flight works pump The upgraded starter motor pod Aluminium case All solenoids / full auto start fadec system And shipping 6 days And the list goes on. Absolutely everything needed to make it run except fuel and gas. get them from www.jetjoe.com I have run it 5 times and all have been great runs up to 160,000 rpm and back down to 40,000 rpm with no problem. I personally wasn’t too sure about the jj's a when they first came out as they were having some problems but that isn’t a big surprise as most products that are released for the first time to the PUBLIC has a tough time. But now that they have the problems rectified, this new jj1400 is definitely a good buy. :D I know they are not the best turbine on the market and i don’t expect them to be but all i can say is that for the $$$ these are the best value for money when it comes to entering the sport on a budget. IF you have the extra $$$$ then go out and buy a jet cat or an AMT , TJT ect but for those who don’t have $ 4000 -5000 to spend on there first turbine the jj IMO is the way to go. So i can say to all if you have been thinking of getting one but weren’t quite sure if they work properly you can stop worrying now as I have proof they do work . :) i will get a video posted soon to prove that it runs fine im just having difficulties getting the video below 10 mb and I have already bunt all my jet fuel. If anyone wants to know more or just talk about the jj 1400 with me you are welcome. Im not an expert yet but im willing to help. Thanks for reading From Paul |
RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
I have been thinking about converting my jj1400 to full autostart. Do you think the new jj starter is better than the old one?

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
Hey guys,
I am looking for a turbine for educational purposes(just bench running) Will a complete jj1200 set up work good for that purpose? Or if anyone has a setup they want to sell I would consider buying(on school budget.....:D ) Thanks |
RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
Hi there to all you fellow JetJoe owners! I just received my 1st JJ turbine this morning in kit form - taken 5 days to get to me here in the UK and looks great so far. Just wondered if anyone else here bought the kit version or did you all go for the ready assembled version? If you got the kit version, did you get assembly instructions etc? I will post some pics of the kit version as it comes out of the box and post later on.
Any info on the build would be most welcome. All the best, Rabbit UK P.S If anyone has a copy of the instructions they could e-mail, that would be cool.;) |
RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
Just an update, I contacted Joe about my combustion chamber and he is sending me one of their new design CC made from inconel. So, I'll hopefully have it in a few days and be able to get a better thrust reading.
EasyTiger, Did you have a chance to measure your tail cone diameter? Mike |

I think it is assumed that you can have a turbine kit or purchase it ready assembled. By going for the kit it maybe assumed that you are experienced in assembly and operation. That said it is fairly straight forward and not too difficult. What might help is some back copies of RC Jet International Oct '05 to look at other turbine assembly. Online there are instructions and manuals for assembly of other marks that give the basic instructions. Joining the GTBA is also recommended for great value and years of technical newsletters. Any JJ questions just post here. Drop a PM if you want the web links to look over. Paul |
RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
We have a complete full auto start JJ1200 which we had set up on a test bench for display in our shop. The trubine is brand new, never ran - maybe only at the factory. Everything is setup & ready to go. If you are interested, send me a PM & e-mail address & I will send you pics.

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
Paul - thanks for the info - most welcome. I have now built the turbine ready for it's first run - 4hrs last night and it's ready to go - I did use a copy of Jet International which featured a build of a wren 54 mk3 and Joe e-mailed me some assembly instructions and a basic operating guide this morning. I have to say that Joe at JJ has been superb with his responses and support - I wouldn't hesitate to buy again.
I became a member of the GTBA back in October and keep checking the site now and again, but I find better info available here on the forum - to suit my needs that is. I will post my results of the first couple of runs and maybe get some pics or vid of it in action. All the best, Rabbit. |
RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
Definitely!!!!!!!!!!!! no doubt about it. all you have to do is move the trim up then the throttle up and down again and it starts all on its own. The motor housing is very substantial.
i have a mate who has jet cat and PST turbines and he is most impressed with it and is getting one for himself. For $2000 for EVERYTHING you cant go wrong. :D |

ORIGINAL: B1Driver Paul, is that a new engine mount from Jetjoe? No sorry it’s actually a PST one. If there were anything in the JJ kit that I would replace its the engine mount that is about the only thing that isn’t good quality. As for the rest of the turbine its fine. I will try and get a video up to put a lot of peoples minds at rest. |

And his service/ response times are also VERY good. However his MAJOUR down fall is his lack of information that he provides about his turbines. I mean when someone is looking at a turbine they want all the info they can get there hands on. If I were him I would completely restructure the web sight and put videos and GOOD pictures of what actually comes in the kit. I say this because when I received the turbine it came with far more accessories than I expected !!!! and it also came in a nice aluminum case. NOW if I had seen evidence of all this I would have bought this turbine a LONG !!!!time ago and im sure a lot of other people would have done the same. Im just sad that he hasn’t seen the problem as he is missing out on a LOT of customers. In fact I will send jj an e-mail suggesting what he should do to change about his web sight. If everyone could list the things they would like to know, see and anything at all I will send him a LONG and detailed e-mail to sought out this small but serious problem. |

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
ORIGINAL: EASYTIGER Have you measured the thrust? I hope you are not trying to lower the tone in anyway?? Just looking for truthful answers, right. Is thrust akin to really agitated hot air that blows through this thread? Not sure I should have suggested the RCJI back issue as I got a prompt PM from a little bird objecting that it was bellow the belt and giving a detailed alleged history of plagiarism. Rabbit Nice one, pleased it all went smoothly on the build, which means that it will be run up fairly soon I'd guess. Love that noise and the smell! just watch the neighbours for washing out drying and those on night shift. Guess how I know? Paul in OZ Totally agree with you about the web site, also the load up time is sometimes 5-9 minutes a page. So having more information, it needs to come faster. In fact the slowness of the site is a negative marketing factor, you'd expect a jet turbine site to be fast, not running on a1970s ZX spectrum. Paul IntheUK |
RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
RCdriver, as far as I know, I was the first guy to order a Jetjoe, I've been a supporter since the very start. Agree with you about copious hot air, just want to know the thrust. Thing is, Paul is new to turbines, and has been raving about his jetjoe because it starts and runs, but I just think he should measure the thrust.

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
ORIGINAL: lov2flyrc As far as I understood... The tailcone that should be shortened is the latest single piece, I will inquire with my contact to confirm. Todd Any word on the desired tailcone opening for the single piece? I just got the new CC today. Took about 7 days total to get it and Joe sent it free of charge to replace the burned out one, so I'm happy about that. The new CC looks like the other one but has straight fuel sticks and is supposed to be all inconel. I hope to get it back together this afternoon and have some new thrust numbers tonight, then decide if I want to increase the tail cone opening. Thanks, Mike |
RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
Just a quick question as a newbie JJ owner - what oil are you guys using and what mix %?
Is it better to run a seperate oil tank with a dedicated feed to the lube line of the turbine? All the best, Rabbit. |
RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
ET
I agree that some accurate figures for both the JJ 1200 and 1400 would be really useful here. (Though you may know that one or two might be tempted to claim to be getting over 18lbs) If the more recent owners put in a figure it will confirm the factory progress. In the last 18 months I have seen various changes to the compressor(s), intakes, exhausts and front cover, this has been denied as hype those who insist they are all basically the same. The consequence enlarging the front diameter intake has a major effect. ditto moving from 10 blades to 12 and adjusting the radius, more importantly the fine tolerances needed. You are the man who initiated this thread so know we have moved on from 'do they work' to 'they really work' so an accurate JJ thrust, EGT and fuel consumption determined by the JJ owners is a logical step. Is it better to run a seperate oil tank with a dedicated feed to the lube line of the turbine? All the best, Rabbit. Home builders tend to double the flow to the bearings and half the oil content, allowing cool wet bearing at less than 2%. No separate pure oil feeds are used currently commercially though a few still turn on the older home builts. Paul |
