RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread

Hi Xairflyer and everyone else who has tried tried to help

yes the pump will run when power applied directly from battery, and also by the ecu when in prime mode
thanks for the info regarding the O ring, I think a stripdown and rebuild is probably in order to answer a few questions i have regarding the update state (if any of the components) at least the bearings feel good !!!

here are some pics of the ecu boards

many thanks Adam

Pictures are not getting bigger when you click on them.

If the pump will run when in prime mode then, the ecu itself is probably ok in regard to powering the pump.

Can you post your ecu settings.

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread

Difficult to know with those settings on that ECU, there must be someone else using that ECU try posting a question on the main jets forum about the GB hobbies ECU.

Nothing though looks that wrong, other than you want to keep it on auotstart, and what is start enable=not ready, can that be changed.

If it is not an ECU problem then going back to the burnt track is the suspicious one.

Might be an idea to pick yourself up a Gasper ECU

i had a BG hobbies ECU with my JJ1400 and the parameters look good.
this sounds like a software bug of some sort, but i would repair the burnt trace with a piece of wire just in case, in order to test it !

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread

Hi guys

I have bought a very good looking Boomerang sprint with a JJ 1800 turbine. The Sprint is really fitted out with very good and expensive electronices, servo's and other equipment. My question is.....is the Jet Joe 1800 a reliable turbine? I prevously had a Jet Joe 1400 but never installed it in a jet and it run quite good on the test bench. Somebody told me that the JJ1800 is the most reliable one out of the Jet Joe range of turbines? I'm just in a "dont know" situation. Must I sell the JJ1800 and rather go for a Kingtech..........? What is the downsides and upsides of the JJ1800? What problems will I most probably face with the JJ1800?
Thats the questions I need to get answered.......please, any advice will help me in my desicion.

Jakes

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread

The 1800 is without doubt the best most user friendly JetJoe turbine. The worst thing about it is a JetJoe turbine. Also heavy and thirsty for the thrust it puts out. The Kingtech K-80 would be a much better choice. Almost a pound lighter installed weight and the same if not more thrust and no worries at all about quaility.

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread

JET JOE OWNNERS PLEASE RECOMEND.

Know that the not Jet Joe owners don´t like this brand, quality, etc. and will recomend to go other way.

Already have a Yellow Aircraft Sting Ray and will like to considera real turbine for it.

Don´t have a really deep wallet so considered building a kj66 from plans and buying the special components, but then remembered JETJOE. They are still in bussiness after 10 years so something they are doing good.

Will like to learn how to assemble a turbine so I can service it myself here in Guatemela where there is no suport of any brand of turbine.

QUESTIONS
1. Buy the assembled turbine or Kit.
2. JJ1200 orJJ1400 read tha jj1400 is more realliable but that was a post from several years.
If the the dimesion are the same and wheight think jj1400 is a better option.
3.Should buy only the tubine, and aprt Electronic from a more relliable source?

WHAT MODIFICATION I NEED TO MAKE IT RUN PROPERLY?

From whom can I buy?

Since there are no representatives where Ilive and it is going to come from China probably can come from any other country.

Will like to have some tech suport at the beginning.

Thanks

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread

Yes go for the 1400 it dos'nt come as a kit but you can just buy it in parts, make sure you get the bullet starter as well.

Buy the ecu valves etc direct from Gasper, the new JJ pump J200 is actually very good there old one is only suitable for bench running.

When you build it yourself you can check the fuel ring etc, you will then need to get someone to electronically balance it or do it yourself by hand.

I done a stripdown/rebuild thread a while back might be of some use.

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread

I had a JJ1800. It ran great for the first 4 hours. After that, it was a total nightmare. It kept destroying the turbine blades. I sent it to Gabe on at least 4 occassions and each time I'd get it back, it would destroy the blades on the first flight attempt once again resulting in dead stick landings. Eventually, I gave up on it and Gabe sent me a 1400 which is sitting in a jet hanging in a Hobby Shop. The 1800 was a very powerful engine. I still have the destroyed one in my shop.

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread

Hi guys.

'Sup in JJ-Land?

Haven't fired my Tubes up for quite a while now, and I'm getting withdrawals...[X(]

Things have been pretty much full-on in my world lately, and I been enjoying getting out there and flying all sorts of things lately (no Turbines but).

Interesting reading on that JJ1800 - I wonder what it could have been that was blowing the turbine blades off? If it was all balanced up nicely each time, could there have been some kind of concentric being introduced at the higher end RPM? Something no-one would pick up during a static balance, but enough thou off-centre to make the tips of the blades catch somewhere once it was under burn load?

Or maybe a nasty hot-spot once she got up to full power?

Would be worth seeing what it looks like from behind in an after-dark spool-up...

BJ:)

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread

Mavericksa take FW 109 advice and get rid of the JJ1800. As the owner of the same turbine you will be on borrowed time and probably suffer a flameout damaging if not destroying your new jet. They are junk, go with a Kingtech and fly all day. My purchase and life lesson of a JJ kept me out of the turbine game for about two years enough time to "re-save" for an old RAM 500 that runs like a gem.

Just my two cents. I hate to see someone make the same mistake I made.

Good Luck,
Mike

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread

With all due respect, do you think we could keep the advertising for other brands out of this thread?

We've been through this so many times now, and each time huge arguments have erupted and the Mods have had to finally step in and start removing posts which tends to ruin the continuity of the thread.

Please, if you really feel the need to advise people away from JetJoe Turbines, would you mind starting a "Don't buy JetJoe" or something else hate thread?

This is a thread for JJ enthusiasts, where we would like to come and discuss our products peacefully.

Buy all means, speak out against JetJoe if you feel the need, but I and most of the followers of this thread would appreciate it if you could do it somewhere else.

Kind regards,

BJ:)

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread

Not trying to bash I was actually checking the thread to see if quality had improved when I came across a newbee and just wanted to do the right thing. So back to the JJ thread have you guys seen improvements in quality? Are they to the point of where I could run one for 25hrs without much trouble? Not bashing just wanted to see if they have improved from three yrs or so ago.

Thanks for any info,
Mike

Xairflyer 02-23-2011 05:26 PM

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread

From what I have seen the parts themselves have improved a lot but the build and balance has'nt, if you either buy it in bits or strip it and rebuild it then balance you will get it to last, but the standard of assembly and balance are key.

Mike06659 02-23-2011 06:02 PM

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread

That's a step in the right direction. When I had my 1800 the quality just wasn't there. Have the electronics been changed (new brand)?

Xairflyer 02-23-2011 06:23 PM

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread

I think that is one of the mistakes they made, they should have stuck with Gaspers fadec rather than doing there own, the best bet is get a turbine in bits and buy the ECU valves etc from Gasper.

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread

Np probs Mike.

Guess I'm just a bit wary after it all went south last time.

Re the JJ builds of late:

I have heard that the more recent Turbines are running Iconel burner cans. I have a fairly recent JJ3000 and another one slightly older. Haven't got around to stripping them down to see what's inside, but someone like Brett could probably verify one way or the other.

IHMO, it sounds like their build quality has improved, but their QA still sucks - still shipping product with the odd screw not thighened up etc.

I also noticed that the FADEC's are different between my twins - not sure how good their 'Gaspar clone' is.

I'm still only benching mine, just for the buzz of the noise and the smell (kero junkie here :D ), when it comes time to fit them in an airfrome (or 'boat' - if I ever get it finished), I'll be shipping them off to Brett so he can give them the once-over.

BJ:)
