For once Strawboss and I are in 100% agreement! Very nice and clever work. I will be copying the gear door and gear mount with your permission.

Matt,
You can disassemble the system with no problem....is the way I like it too.
Some of the problem I solved them as I go.....this door set up a little bit different from the previous one...
Each wheel collar release the 2 axles that hold the door in place...pictures tomorrow.
At the nose I'm using standard 5mm led, but ultrabright type. Not sure about the brand....but re-check the link I gave you from All Electronics.
Once again thanks for those cool words [sm=sunsmiley.gif]

Dave,
Can we say I build 50% as you fly? Even?;)[sm=thumbup.gif]
I'm going to need your help convincing Tam to made me a "Limited 1 unit Edition" of a tailcone for my Viper...."Veeary busie, to moch wolk on neu proyet, almoss no sleap..."

John,
I don't mind anyone taking ideas from here...that's the all point[sm=thumbup.gif]....unless you are going do business with it....partner ;):D
Just don't forget to mention that is was created by a friend of yours from Dominican Republic, in the Caribbean [8D]
Am I entitle to put a name on this system?

Stay around.-

Last night worked with good company....my buddies Alexdu and Marcos passed by. James-no-fly didn't make it...he's about to get married....poor guy :D:)
Alex made me proud last night....after all this time helping me during assembling process, for first time he was working on his own assembling an small & flexible U-Can-Do (or He Can't Do?:D)...and better yet, getting his hand dirt with epoxy....waooooo[sm=thumbup.gif][sm=sunsmiley.gif]...front time to time he asked for [sm=drowning.gif], but it was ok ;)

Back to the Viperjet.....made final adjustment to the nose gear doors..now is all ready.- It was one of those days when the things you did even after consuming few hours of your time, are almost imperceptible .

Anyway, bellow are few picture of how the nose door ended up. Is working flawless [8D].-

Next on the list...FINISHING THE SPEED BRAKES.

The Speed Brakes mounting bases at the fuselage require lots of P A T I E N  to obtain an optimum result due the fuselage surface there is not quite flat at all. You can make all 4 bases at the same time with jig method, but then you'll have to work each one independently by try&error... ;).

Tam,
Good to have you into this "virtual shop!";)[&:]
Thanks for the complement and even more your support.

Today I spent good time at the jet-lab. I made the final assembling of the speed brakes system[sm=sunsmiley.gif], including the mounts for the air cylinders.-

Enough for today.....post picture on Monday.-

HERE IS THE SPEED BRAKES TEMPLATE. THERE IS A 1 INCH MARKED LINE AT THE BOTTOM FOR REFERENCE. ENLARGE OR REDUCE THE IMAGE UNTIL YOU GET THE 1 INCH.
MASK THE FUSELAGE AREA WITH MASKING TAPE AND LOCATE THE TEMPATE ON TOP ALIGNING THE "Y" AXLE WITH FUSELAGE SEAM...

Cut a balsa block with a 70 degrees angle, which for my taste is an adequate angle of travel, and with double side tape, attach this balsa block to the speed brake and with masking tape secure it the the fuselage [sm=thumbup.gif]
Then with the air cylinder full extended and the clevis already at the horn you'll know the exact location to glue it at the fuselage....

RE: THE RETURN OF THE VIPERJET

I been off the air with this thread due head scratching at the jet lab  working on the gear installation at the wings.
The idea of installing doors to the mains came to my mind after removing one of the wheel bays....wao, "what a lobby" in there...and a good inside view of a veeeeeeery strong wing.
I'm using Robart gear.....but I recommend you to use Tam's cos you won't have to make any modifications [:o] to install them. I been doing what we can call an inverted C-Section;), but at the end things looks great and (lucky me) very promising ;)
I decided to give up on these doors.....but with an adecaute gear this goal can be archive very easy....the basic problem is the height....so you'll need one of those system that has the air cylinder separate from the gear base.....
Next week I'll restart posting picture....and with luck in short time be ready for painting.......Any scheme idea???????[sm=drowning.gif].
Later.

RE: THE RETURN OF THE VIPERJET

Are you having issues with outer doors or inner doors? I put doors on a yello Stingray, and there is not a lot of room on that one. I surface mounted the doors, if I can find some pictures I will post them for you.

I think you HAVE to put doors on it!! Of course I put full gear doors on my first low wing trainer (Goldberg Tiger II)

BTW, I really like your removable hinge system with the wheel collar.

Matt

Miguel Santana 07-16-2005 08:07 PM

RE: THE RETURN OF THE VIPERJET

I was considering inner doors....I could do them in the outer way, but will have a bump looks effect on the wing surface....
Of course I'm open to ideas;)... "you never know through where the water gets into the coconut!" So let me see what you have ;)
I'm agree that after all the effort quiting the doors is kind of ...cruel

Go ahead and build your next project soon with that hinge system.....I;ll change you the credit for a very icy beer :) at next FJ...deal?

Well normally I do flush doors. I did surface mount doors as a retrofit to an old BVM Viper I had.

On the Stingray, I mounted the outer doors with a wire and brass tube. The wire is locked in when you bolt it down. It sits outside of the skin, but it only 20 thousands thick.
