Great work Matt.
In my case there a a few issues to be solve to do what you did.....I'm using Robart, and the trunion when is retracted, is not flush with the gear base...also there are part of the struts that is not flush with the wing surface when retracted,,,,they are above the surface....[:o]
There is not enough height :eek:... in a way that thinking in 20 thousands thick is impossible.....at least 1/8 inch...
It could be done flush....but it will require cutting the actual gear bases to glue another one lower or deep into the wing.....but at the same time sacrifaying strenght [:@]
I'll take your ideas and credit ;)to do some head scratching....but with 1/8!QUOT! thick...

The inner doors are a little different. The entire mechnism is removable. I could not get inside the wing to mount the mechanism, so I made it on the outside to bolt in.

It is hard to tell from these pictures, but the hinges are removable, and are held in place by the inner door itself. I also do not show the up and down stop adjustments.

Like I said, these are not flush, but if you really want them to be, you can go back and butter them in with evercoat and sand them down. I did that on the BVM Viper

AHH I see now...the "credit" you need is the VISA card kind......go buy some thinner retracts!!

The new ones I have seen from Tam, JetPower and the new south african ones look pretty thin....Or try some old aluminum BVM retracts, they have the seperate air ram like you mentioned.

Even if I get another gear.....the problem of having to cut the actual gear base is going to be there :eek: and when I meen cut....I mean really taking the base out....

BTW, I'll have the Eagle 3 telemetry system on board this Viperjet...:D

After another 6 green bottle. Let see if I can write.
We are putting another Viper Jet together for updating the instruction. Friday I had my builder doing the main gear. WE try to do some kind of gear door for the main. But after install the Robart 1/2" straight struts to my low profile retract. But there is not enough room for the wheels.
The wheel are touching the top skin. So I end up raise my gear by 1/8" to clear the wheels from touching the top skin.
Now the wheels and struts fit very well inside the wheel pan. But the retract are higher than the skins.
At least I give a try. Now I can tell everyone don't bother with main gear doors. It could be done. But require some molding parts to make it look nice and neat.

I like your speed brake set up.
Today after coming back from weeken flying. I came up some tooling to make the speed brake easier to install without cutting wood parts.
I took the Super Hornet scale flaps hinges and playing around with it. I got an idea to make it to work for the Viper Jet speed brake.
I'll post some photos to show what it look like when I get to close to finished it.
Mean while, keep up with your progress. I love your works.
Maybe you move in with me. I do recruit high intellegence mind. But the pay kind of s''ck. Just a bow of rice and dawn good vietnamese coffee.
Ask Dave. He know all about it. He work his auss off just for some good coffee which I special make for him and bow of rice for lunch.

You had made a perfect description of the problem...apparently you are very familiar with the Supa Vipeljet, umh....I wonder why? ;) You da man:D
Anyway I will give a try to Matt proposal of doing outer doors.....and tomorrow going to Analise all with wing on hands.

Glad you liked the speed brakes too [8D]... cutting the wood ribs was not big deal....I made the 4 that goes at the speed brakes(SB) at the same time together, same for the others....They look so cool :)...Why don't you prepare a SB installation kit???????[&:][&:]

It is good for modelers to have options with different levels of difficulties.- It all depends in what you want and how you want it ;) at the end what matters is if works :)

Back to business

The main doors can be done, but as said before some molding and fiberglass work need to be done. keep in mind the wings fairings for the doors....

The Robart gear needed some modification in order to reduce its height...also drilled new holes and adapted them for flat head 6-32 screw with blind nuts.-

If you go with Tam's gear....no mods are needed.

I decided the make the wheel pans removable....in honor to Mr. Matt ;) who love removable stuff.... Very convenience I think due you are able to work better routing all cables and houses.

At the end it looks nice and what seemed to be a problem at the beginning ended been an advantage due the wheels are not pushing up the upper skin when retracted ;) lucky S.O.A.B :)

The wing's servos are mounted in position, using Tam's servos mounts....very cool stuff[sm=thumbup.gif]
Also prepared the hatch to use 2-56 flat head screws with blind nuts....looks great....and flat :)

I made a template to mount these servos...but forgot them in the Lab....[&o] I'll post them later along with the templates to do the speed brakes and nose door ribs, including dimentions.

I decided to play a little bit with some ideas I had for a FOD design.....improvement(?)....and it worked.-
I never liked the idea of having the metal screen big hole touching a/o scratching the electric starter housing...and the possibility of one piece of metal getting loose and suck by the turbine...:eek:

The carbon fiber rim has 3mm in thickness and tapped with 2-56 holes. For the rest of details....I let the pictures talks by them self.

The ailerons and flaps are mounted in place....some sanding need to be done at the wing trailing edges to get an adequate travel...slow works to not over sand a/o cut:eek:
This is boring stuff :eek: in comparison with the fun I had with the speed brakes and nose gear set up....but there is one BVM MIG-15 in the future which give the feeling I'll have lots of (to much [:o][&:]) with it.
Not picture at this moment...only my bad English para que sufran ;)

Well, after a while off the air with this thread....I been giving the final touches....and the all last week was sanding, sanding, sanding,.........sanding.......sanding........an after that more sanding, sanding....finally I ended up hating sanding [>:]. Even better....don't ever want the hear anything about it....at least for a couple of month...Definitely you got to love "this thing" to go through all this sanding craziness [sm=cool.gif]

The Viper is going today to the paint shop......at last! [&:] and BTW would like to thanks my friends Alex and Marcos for his good company and specially to James No Fly for his help with this tedious process ;)

Will post picture later one...has tons of things to bring here up ;)

Quit teasing us and post a picture Miguel!!! I'm glad you've got it done. Please keep us posted on the maiden. We are going to have at least 4 Viperjets at the Fresno Jet Rally and hoping to get them all in the air at the same time for some smoke-on formation flying. Good Luck!
