A-10X Preview
 

Thought you guys might like to see a few pics of the new A-10X. I am currently building one, powered by an Artes Bee, to test flight performance and compile the manual. So far, I am quite impressed with the quality. With the exception of some poor glue joints to the fuse formers (which will be corrected on production), the kit is very well made and should be an excellent grass field capable, trainer type aircraft (or, every day beater ;)). Airframe consits of a fiberglass fuse and booms, built-up wings, center section and stab. Assembly is minimal, really just a matter gear, electronics and engine installation... The kit is designed around the 54 class engines, it is not possible to fit a larger can (ie: KJ66 size) in the mounts. The A-10X will be available in three color schemes and will also be offered as a combo package including retracts, wheels, air support, fuel tank ect...We are expecting delivery of the A-10X in early August.

BTW, not seen in these images but included is a belly pan which has the wheel wells molded into it....

Looks nice Todd and hope that all goes well for you. In the photos the seam lines are pretty apparent and the Monokote work on the underside of the wing needs some attention too.. But it's just me being picky :). What retracts is the bird built for?

Tim,
I'll assume you mean the fuse seam lines (painted in the mold fuse)? No seams seen in the covering as they are done at the leading/trailing edge.... As for the loose covering, anyone who lives in florida knows this is typical for an out of the box ARF, especially in dark colors... The heat tends to sag the covering until it has been heated and rubbed down good. Even then, you have to keep shrinking it back up during our hot summer days (our flying season is oct thru may ;)).
Retracts... they are also supplied by RCARF and I have no yet received a set. I have ordered a set of Robarts new spring-air style gear to test out in this plane along with as set of the robart 550s to see which will be the best for this application. Will report on their performance as well if you are curious...

Yep I was speaking of the seam lines on the fuselage. But it still looks great and understand about the Monokote. I live in Kentucky and experience the same problem here with the sagging. I'm just being a stinker held hostage at the office and waiting for the weekend to get some flying in. Yes I am interested and looking forward to your report.

Hi Albert,

The CG is 115mm from the leading edge of wing.
Aileron : 30mm up and down
Elevator: 25mm up and down
Flaps : 60mm down
Rudder : 25mm left and right.

I fly with JR10X radio and have the 3 mode setup for flight. After takeoff i switch over and travel is reduced. When i fly from short field (100m) i use full flaps for landings. No bad tendancy. Just remember not to get under the power curve.

The A10X lands very slowly. With a slight breeze you can land her in 50m with no brakes.

Power: 9~18Lb thrust

I have not calculated the wing area, I'll try and get it measured up for you although it is fairly high.

No plan set that I am aware of, would not be a difficult plane to scratch up though. Fairly simple design.

Hiya Sean.. made it to Killeen last Friday. The house wont be done till 1 Sep and I hope to make it to Waco. Sounds like its gonna be alot of fun. I hope to have the A-10x ready for flight testing and maybe signoff by then...we'll see. Im not going to rush it. Awaiting a flight report for the A-10 from Todd along with an electrics reccomendation(sp). :)

I know guys, really sorry I have not been able to report on the A-10X. Intended flight dates have been scratched due to weather or priorities [:o].... Time has been extremely slim for me lately and commiting a full day ( almost two hour travel to flying field) for the A-10x has been difficult. I am expecting to get out sunday, weather permitting. Hopefully i'll have all the info for you soon. Need to find a video camera I can borrow, mine crapped out on me [&o] Worst case.... i'll use my video function on my digital camera [:'(]

I know there are a bunch of you waiting for this info, rescheduled for this weekend...Sat or Sun, whatever works.
Several have asked for more images of the plane, Detail shots.... so, while your waiting for flight reports, I thought I would throw these up...

Only "Mods" made was addition of the "FOD" screen to the intakes and the systems tray for a clean install. In order to make the tray easy to install/remove, I split the tray down the middle and hinged it with CA hinges. This allows the tray to fold as it is installed.
Retracts used where Robart 550 series with 7/16 struts since I was not able to get the "Combo Package" at the time of build. I also used a Dubro 50oz tank, the included fiberglass tank was also not ready at time of delivery.

As you can see, the linkage is way overkill for this plane (servos too) but I plan to wring this thing out to the extremes... Looking to get an idea of this plane full capabilities. If I cant break it, no one will :D Lets hope the rain holds out this weekend!
